Lebara has better value with international call and not fixed for 365 days

    • +1

True … 16gb 6 months for $99 and no need to buy 2 plans

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/393847

      What network is lebara

Haven't paid more than $20 so far this year jumping from free, $1 or $5 offers

      • Yes the question is what network are they using and are they good?

      • same network = Vodafone

        • +1

Last 3 months have been on 2 X mynetfone free months (15gb) and now 1 X (pennytel free months (15gb ) and have one more free pennytel sim

        • +1

@easternculture: I was jumping ship every month for a while there too. Got sick of always having to call customer service when porting issues arose though.

Then the previous BOGOF Kogan deal came up so I jumped ship on jumping ship…

        • +1

          @axeology:

I have no problem hoping around if it means I save 200 to 300 dollars a year. That savings offcourse will go towards a new phone in January

        • @easternculture:

True. I should really get my head back in the game.

        • @axeology: fairly sure the porting issues are intentional. Just started getting them recently.

        • @easternculture: I was hoping around too when I was hopping around.

      • +4

I bought 365 days Kogan on discount during June, it works out around $24/m for 16GB plan. I always buy the 365 days on discount (this is 2nd year).

      • -2

16 GB for 6 months vs 16 GB per month (Kogan)

      • -1

If you put this efforts on learning a science rather than finding a free-plan month to month, you probably would have saved thousands of dollars instead of a couple of hundreds bucks each year!!

    • +3

Didn't that Lebara deal finish last night?

      • +1

        yes it did

    • Agreed that Lebara is a better deal (just expired last night). They give you unlimited international call and txt. Using the same Vodafone 4G networks.

      • still waiting for my voucher from 2 days ago…

        • Think it goes direct to your lebara account, you don't get a separate email.

        • -1

          @linnaen:

comment still stands: still waiting for my voucher from 2 days ago…

        • @linnaen:

thanks for heads up. Do you know if I can buy vouchers and apply it for my parent's number?

Any BOGOF deals for the medium plans? 7gb perhaps?

Hi OP, is the title price a typo? Or is there a way to bring the price down from $399.90?

    $12.40/User/Month

  • +6

From my personal experience from being on this plan for the last 9 months.

    +23GB of data
    +unlimited calls
    +unlimited texts

-data not always available or very slow
-issues receiving automated SMS's from banks/google etc
-Telstra services unable to call me

    • +20

In 2018 still these issues in Australia.
I went to Seoul, world class internet, mobile network and banking system, corrupt politicians go to jail including presidents.
Our storytelling politicians have too much to learn.

      • Australia does not even do anything about their corrupt police everywhere - forget about politicians or anybody higher ranked being made accountable.

    • +3

That's strange. Been using Kogan for 13 months and while there have been some 4g drop outs, when it works it usually works fine (~30mbps dl in Perth).

    • +3

issues receiving automated SMS's from banks/google etc

The thing stopping me from moving to Kogan or Lebara etc is not getting these SMS's whilst overseas / they don't have international roaming, but are you saying you have issues with bank SMS's within Australia?

    • +7

If you can't receive calls from Telstra, your service is not fit for purpose and you are entitled to a full refund under consumer law.

My own experience with Kogan has been really good. Occasionally texts get delayed, but it is rare. Never had issues with data. My biggest gripe with them is no roaming offered, it means buying a local SIM when travelling.

      • If someone sends you a text message and you don't replay because you didn't get it, how do you know?
I remember similar issues I had with now defunct (finally) Three, garbage service for Australians.

    • Yep. I am on kogan just for a month (churning from telstra to kogan back to telstra for the JB deal) and the service has sucked. Using it as a hotspot, sometimes facebook just doesn't work. Turn on a vpn - facebook works. I'm guessing their DNS servers are awful or something. Either way, counting the days till I go back to sweet sweet telstra. I would cut this month early and go on telstra but ozbargainers don't do that.

      • Call them and tell them that. Then ask to cancel and you get refunded remainder

    • Respectfully disagree, although I did rope in my mates girlfriend last time this deal came around and she was on Telstra and has hated the change. She is a lawyer working in the cbd (I'm purposely never near the cbd) a bit so I assume that's the issue, but in Coogee and around suburban Sydney in general I've had no issues ever. Also just love doing a lump sum and having one less thing to add to my monthly budget.

    • Using Kogan and Lebara, no probs at all. No slowness or dropouts, no worries.

    • Agree, I've been using them for the past 10months or so from one of their previous yearly plan deals and will not be renewing. It's slow and reception issues in CBD too. Also, it sucks being stuck for a year

4G Kogan SIM Speedtest now in Metro Sydney: 81.3Mbps down and 9.39Mbps up.

    Better that NBN!!

    • +1

I get 130Mbps down and 32Mbps up in Chester Hill. Then I get like 24Mbps down in Darling Harbour.

    • The 5G specification states that individual users should see a minimum download speed of 100Mbps
When 5G goes live next year it will make the current NBN standard look dumb.
5G antennas coming to business and homes near you…?

      • +2

It really annoys me seeing people who think 5G will be the new home internet, it doesn't work like that.. FTTP will always be better no matter how you slice it.

        • +1

What about all those home that will not recieve FTTP?
Is FTTP a better option for them no matter how you slice it?

        • Rubbish. I've been on FTTP with Telstra for 2 years and it's crap. Slow, dropouts, crap support.

    • +1

Yep I switched to a Kogan 365/32gb plan because I get 3mbps download with NBN FTTN for $99/mo whilst my Kogan sim gets me average 35mbps download on something like $16/mo…

      • I switched to a Kogan 365/32gb plan

Please post a link to this 32GB plan.

        • Sorry I meant 23GB* plan aha!

    • +1

      Better that NBN!!

      Wouldn't be hard

      • Holy crap. I get about 8mbps on my kogan using my mate 9 in Chippendale. I used to get 80+ on Telstra.

If existing Kogan prepaid, can I port to this? I know it says new customers only …

    • These are vouchers, you will lose your balance on current plan if you apply vouchers. You can ask for a refund on unused balance but it's not guaranteed.

      • Are you sure about this? I am also with Kogan now and about to recharge at the end of the month. It does say new customer only in the offer.

      • You can ask for a refund on unused balance but it's not guaranteed.

They will no longer credit/refund for any unused balance when one adds a voucher to a current plan.
UNLESS the voucher is for a higher plan. EG. You add a voucher for an Extra Large Plan to a Large Plan account.

    • Can anyone confirm that existing prepaid Kogan customers can port their existing Kogan number to a new Kogan prepaid SIM?
      Then apply this voucher?

It just doesn't sound possible to port into the same provider you were on.
I highly doubt you can apply the voucher to the old SIM.

It's like what others are saying…..port to a different provider first, then port back.

EDIT: The only other solution I see is to get a new mobile number.

      • I would like to know too. Only switch over to Kogan for less than a week. Would suck if I missed this deal because of this.

  • Anyone wants to share please let me know

    • Hey planning to buy large later today, happy to half half.

      • I want one.

        • Please turn on your pm so i can pm you.

        • @tajid: i would like to go half as well if it's still available thanks

        • @crazynic: sure bought last night, just pmed you.

  • BTW a reminder to use a referral if you can with this (I couldn't get it happening for some reason)

  • +3

Meh, I got 12 months for $202 (16GB) last eBay sale.

    • +1

Meh, using maths this works out cheaper ($199.95 each) when divided by 2 people.

      • +3

I'm as price driven as anyone on this site, but I'd gladly pay $2.05 extra per year for the simplicity and flexibility of not having to negotiate and co-ordinate my mobile service with someone else's.

        • +1

Oh yes I would be happy to pay the extra $2.05 if I didn't have someone to share it with. Obviously you wouldn't do it if it was just for one person.

I have never taken up one of these 2 for 1 offers so I would be interested to know if that's true or not.
I just thought you would both be able to set up separate accounts. Hopefully someone can clear this up.

        • @WatchNerd:
What if their existing plan doesn't finish at the same time as yours? (eg if they aren't with Kogan)
They might also back out on the deal part way through or it may take longer than expected to get your payment from them.

        • @foundit:
Don't give them the activation code until they pay for it. They can hold onto the activation code until their current plan finishes then activate it.

        • @OzzyBorn:

Do you have to co-ordinate your mobile service with the other person or do you both have separate accounts?

        • +3

          @WatchNerd:

separate accounts. You're just paying for 2 vouchers instead of 1, do with the other as you please

        • -2

@idjces: But you're under time pressure as you only have 2 months to do it. So until you can sell it or find a use for it, it's a liability because you have paid $200 for the second voucher, yet that voucher will become worthless unless sold or used within 2 months.

If I had a use for one of these vouchers, that deadline squeeze is exactly the kind of scenario in which the seller would ask for $200, and as a prospective buyer I would say: "a hundred and eighty dollars?! I don't have a hundred and fifty dollars! What do you need a hundred and twenty dollars for? Here's a hundred and ten dollars." Then hand over $100, and ask for change…

        • +2

          @nickj:

So we have established that your 1st comment was wrong about having to co-ordinate your mobile service with someone else's (each person has their own account). And now you make up another scenario to try and make this deal look bad.

The title & description clearly state what this deal is, so if you don't have another person to share it with then don't buy it.

        • +8

I'd gladly pay $2.05 extra per year

That's almost 4 Maccas soft serve cones.

          You disgust me.

        • +1

@WatchNerd: you do have to negotiate and collect payment, and you do have to co-ordinate within a 2 month window, and that applies irrespective of whether of you have different accounts or not.

I have no problem with the title or description, and my aim is not to make this deal look bad - on the contrary, I like most Kogan mobile offers, I just think it would be better offer as a single voucher albeit at a marginally higher unit cost - and I will prove you wrong on this point by voting positive to the deal.

        • +1

you do have to negotiate and collect payment.

Are you talking about your situation or everyone? Because other people have many different ways to use this deal, they don't all have to sell it to a stranger.

        • @WatchNerd: Very true. I'm the odd one out in my family & peer group in that I port carriers so often :-). Most people seem to set up a mobile service and leave it, even if it costs them much more in the long run. But if people have a family member/friend who also is happy to port to Kogan within the next 2 months, then that works too.

        • +1

Great so are you looking for someone to go halves with? I'm after the 16gb plan.
PM me if you're keen. No negotiating required.

  • My Kogan deal runs out next month. Is this for existing users only?

    • Deal says new customers only.

  • Does it have unmetered anything?

  • Seems just like yesterday where you could buy a $50 voucher and $10 referral credit to get anything over $120 for $50 less.

  • -5

In Australia mobile offers are becoming more and more competitive so I would not commit to buy a 1 year plan not even a 2 year plan with phone.
In other countries people pay $5-10 per month and get unlimited download data!

    • +6

Well, we aren't in other countries … what do you do for mobile?

    • Lol what's the standard wage in those so called country's ? then I'm sure you will get a better understanding. :)

  • +2

Our family have been with Kogan since the last buy 1 get 1 free deal. I live near Bunbury W.A. 2 family members are on the 16 Gig a month plan, and 2 are on the 6 Gig month plan. We have all been really happy with the service. Will stay after the 1 year is up. :-)

  • +3

I purchased the Large 16gb/month 365 day plan buy one get one free special last time it was offered for $399.90 minus a $50 Kogan voucher I purchased for $17.99 on Ebay. I gave my sister the other plan and went halves in the costs which worked out to be $183.94 each or $15.32 per month for 16gb! (95c per gb!)
I ported my number over from Boost Mobile on the Telstra network with no problems and only took an hour or so.
First thing I did was a 4g speed test to see how it compared to Telstra and I was quite disappointed to say the least to only get around 7.5Mbps average (I'm yet to get over 10Mbps) whereas Telstra is always minimum 40Mbps even on a bad day. At first I thought I had stuffed up trusting in Vodafone again but decided to give it a chance and to be honest even though I am still only getting these slow "4g" speeds 2 weeks later, I haven't really found myself waiting for things to load during my very heavy phone usage. It streams YouTube videos and the NRL footy app on high settings without buffering. Besides, 90% of the time that I am downloading movies or big files I'm connected to my home 100Mbps wifi anyway.

Vodafone coverage (with Optus roaming) in my area (Mount Isa QLD) has so far been at least as good as Telstra and is actually better in my work place. One thing I have noticed is that the call quality is not as clear as Telstra, the other person sounds more muffled. I think it has something to do with Telstra having HD/Wifi Calling. Hopefully Vodafone incorporates it into Kogan's service soon. So far so good and I am extremely happy with the value of $15/month.

  • Buy one and put the other up for sale on eBay or Facebook Marketplace 😉

  • +1

Can this be applied for existing customers? Says only new customers in the description?

    • Sorry, I missed that. Thanks, updated.

    • +2

      Just asked a rep:

      Ariane
Unfortunately, the BOGOF deal is only offered for new customers only.

      Me
I see, does that mean the voucher code will not work for an existing customer?

      Ariane
My apologies, this will not be generated to existing Kogan Mobile Number.

Guess you could port out, then port back in…

… I suspect the code will probably work on an existing account though…

      • Or just take out a new account (you would have a new mobile number though). I think your old sim card stays viable (no credit) for 12 months from when credit expired, so I guess you could port it to another company first, then port it back to Kogan at a later date.

  • Can you use Kogan giftcards to pay for this?

    • Yup!

  • i was on the 365 plan last year and finished it about 2-3 months ago. it says new customers only, can i sign up again?

  • Coles' mobile for $180 a year
