What have ozbargainers like yourself cooked so far?
Apart from the best steaks I've ever had, I've enjoyed sous vide kangaroo and my personal favourite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVR6w_RFlDs

This changed my life - takes a little bit of effort but the results are worth it
What is the 30% off code? I didn’t get a sign up offer. Is it targeted?
Can’t see any code either, even after entering email to receive updates
also didnt get a code :( dang. was hoping for a new play thing
+1 to this. :(
I have the wifi one and i love it , especially for chicken , and great for really thick steaks like the ones on the cooking shows - sous vide to the perfect amount of doneness ? then sear in a really hot pan …………. lovely.
I’m still waiting for my Nano!
waiting for the $109 deal
How long does it take to cook something with this, including heat up time? Sous vide is interesting for sure, I'm just worried about the whole cooking in plastic thing.
because the temperature you cook it in is relatively low, the food grade bags theoretically wouldn't 'leak' . Cooking time depends on what you are cooking and tenderness. There are some recipes that go for 24-48 hours, or chicken wings for 45 etc. I generally turn the hot tap on to fill the pot, so heating just takes a few minutes. Doesn't take crazy long to heat cold water though
Talking about the vacuum plastic bag, Cotsco is selling ribs in the vacuum bags.
Can we put straight in the sous vide (without changing the vacuum bags)?Yes. I do this often with meat sold in vacuum sealed bags. Just be careful that there isn't any labels or absorption pads in there with it.
Sous vide lemon curd in jars. You can also use silicon bags if you are worried about plastic.
Agree with others remarks - I love my Anova.
Anyone got a link to the silicon bags? I've had a few (brand new) ziplock food grade bags leak, and double bagging doesn't appeal.
They are Stasher bags and you can get them from Anova or Howard’s Storage. They aren’t cheap but they are very reusable. The only caveat is it is hard to get the air out of them.
Apparently the Ziploc brand are meant to be rated to 95C. The only place I know to get them in Australia is Costco.
Many thanks!
@Grange Hermit: no probs.
Got the b.t model as it suited me more. Very happy with the steaks so far exciting testing all the temps and cooking times
What's the benefits of the wifi over the bluetooth model? This isn't far off the best wifi price.
controlling remotely
According to the site it's more powerful, serving more people
My experience with their after sales service was great. The temperature reading on my first machine failed after 4 months. I used the machine every second night on average. When I emailed them about it they replied with a few different suggestions to resolve the issue. The issue resolved itself after a couple of days but then returned a couple of weeks later. When I emailed them the second time they arranged for a replacement machine immediately. I thought that was great service. Friends have had no issues with theirs, so mine may have been a rare issue.
They have replaced DOA machine immidiately for me, excellent service. However it looks like there are a few issues with the machines going on.
I love to buddy with a chef. We got the bluetooth one, have been eating some lovely steaks while pregnant which I couldn't do otherwise!!
Why couldn't you do it otherwise?
Because you are supposed to only eat "well-done" meat while pregnant, and well-done steak is an abomination!
Why not just use a ThermaPen and cook it to a sane temperature?
The main(?) risk for steak is B. cereus which is (eventually) killed at temperatures over 55°C.
anyone able to get the discount code?
I can speak for no one other than me, but signed up at 0930 this morning and haven't received anything.
I purchased the WIFI version at the last sale. I have made a few thngs, but what turned out beautiful is the corned silverside. So juicy and tender. :-)
+1 on corned silverside but beware that some of the plastic bags they come in aren’t Sous Vide rated, you might want to ask your butcher.
Okay. Just got the code. You actually need to go to menu and click products. Then there will be a pop up asking for your email address, and you will immediately get our discount code on the same window.
It isn't sent to your email. Can confirm, this worked!
https://anovaculinary.com/anova-precision-cooker/ is the page with the popup.
Can that be added to the post?
Got one the last deal, cannot recommend it enough.
