Still mad that I missed the gorgeous Blue Lagoon edition.

    • +2

      Me too mate.

I'm still looking to pick one up, but the premium is too steep.

Considering the Save the Ocean edition instead… but the Blue Lagoon is what I really want.

    • +1

They're still around if you want to pay overs over a regular model.

    • +1

I've conceded that it's inevitable that I'm going to eventually cave and buy it. I just hope it's not for a while because I really shouldn't be looking at watches again.

  • Any deals on the blue/silver samurai? Already have a skx009 so no need for more pepsis.

    • I hope not, I paid the $499 for it from Starbuy last week so if it goes on sale now I'll cry.

  • +8

    b…b…but you're not Watch/Math-Nerd

    • -1

Same here, no watch nerd, no deal.

  • +4

Hope I'm not treading on anyone's toes, I've been watching Starbuy deals like a hawk for the past couple of weeks.
Need to stop buying watches… but who am I kidding.

  • -2

For such an expensive watch they should tell where the mechanism is from.

    • +1

      Calibre Number - 4R35

its right there in the description.

Or do you mean country of manufacture ?

    • +3

Movement is made in Malaysia if that's what you're asking, the K in the part number designates that.

        • +1

I think movements are made in Japan and assembled in Malaysia. I could be wrong. Why do you think it's an expensive watch? Do you think you can get a better Swiss watch at the same price?

        • +2

Samurai is the nickname given to the watch by collectors, it is not an official name of the watch. 'Expensive' is relative, a RRP of AUD $700 is cheap compared to a Rolex Submariner or Tag Aquaracer. The movement is designed in Japan, from what I understand there is no quality difference between a J or K designated Seiko.

@dealhunt: Do a bit of research, you have no idea what you are talking about:

          https://www.reddit.com/r/Watches/comments/4aenwo/question_se…

          https://www.thewatchforum.co.uk/index.php?/topic/99779-seiko…

          https://www.bodyingcare.com/portal/kb/articles/what-are-the-…

PS - 'designed in Japan' is not the same as 'made in Japan'.

        • +5

          @dealhunt:

          …while I save my money…

What you need is the TAG HEUER Aqua Racer Caliber S.
Fast Ed wears it so it must be good.
Everyone knows and loves Fast Ed - i sure do.

In Japan they have better quality checks…

          And tsunami's - don't forget tsunami's.
If you'd done your homework you'd have known that.

        • @HandsomeMonkey: You're right - they're assembled in Malaysia.

        • "Well, I'm talking a bout best commercial watches,"

I like the ones made just for the art-work, and given away out of love.

        • Sorry mate, but a Samurai, Turtle, Solar and SKX are considered low-range Seiko models. Mid-range is Marine Masters, Tuna, Trans Ocean, Prospex. High grade is SLA and Grand Seiko etc.

Price is not just about the movement, that's one dimensional. I can easily present $700 micro brands using the same NH Seiko movement as the much less inferior Samurai. I can also present a low $300 watch with a Swiss ETA 2824 movement.

Are these extra Japanese quality checks you speak of real? Are they cheaper 'K' because the labour and infrastructure is cheaper?

Have you ever had anyone show distane at you watch because it is the Malaysian K model not a J model? 99.99999% of people DGAS. I wonder how much parts are actually made in China? I bet a lot.

Ignore Dealhunt, just look at all his previous posts. Pretty much every post he makes he gets negged to the moon. He's a good troll… if his not then god help him.

        • +1

Doesn't matter where the movement is assembled or by who. It's built to a standard set by Seiko. Iphone are made in China. Intel cpu's are made in Malaysia.

    • +1

This isn't really an expensive watch and especially less so considering its a mechanical watch. To answer your question, you can pretty much assume unless your willing to spend around 1k+ the mechanical movement will be from asia (doesn't mean its bad though)

      • Movement made in Japan, assembled in Malaysia

      • Yep. Looks like to get a titanium made in Japan watch it's around $1k.

  • +2

    Just purchase, thanks OP!

  • Great looking watch.

Reminds me of the James Bond Goldeneye style with that colour scheme.

    • +2

You mean the 2541.80 seamaster? yeah - even the wave effect, but nonetheless still two distinct watches.

  • +1

Jump on this one! Iconic model at a great price. I paid $100 more for mine dammit!

  • stick a chip in it for Google/Apple/Seiko Pay and I'd be in.

  • +3

I nearly pulled the trigger on the SRPB51 and SRPB53 but I wanted a pepsi with bracelet and blue lume. Glad I waited, no excuse not to pull the trigger now!

  • +1

Oh snap! Just saw the sale they were having and it included the watch I wanted from way back.

    https://www.starbuy.com.au/seiko-premier-automatic-steel-lea…

    Sweeeeeet!

    • This is nice, especially those blued hands. Personally the number markings aren't to my taste, but it is a very nice watch.

      • Just picked it up from the Starbuy office. It looks even nicer in person. I got it with the extra 5% off code found below: SB5RE

  • Sooooo tempted. Only thing putting me off is the size. To anyone with experience with this watch, does it wear like a 44mm watch?

    • Nope - it wears smaller than a 44mm watch IMO.

I was actually hesitant buying my first Seiko dive watch, so went and tried on in store before buying.

My wrist is 6" (or maybe a touch more like 6.1). The Samurai looks fine, thought I wouldn't want to go any bigger.

Try one on today if you can get to a boutique, sale is on for 2 days.

    • Wears pretty big imo. It wears like a 44mm. Coming from an SKX it has much more wrist presence.

    • +1

      Wears more like a 43.8mm

    • It's pretty damn thick, so not really for small wrists. I'd try before you buy.

    • Wears smaller than a 44mm. The 47.5mm lug to lug, which is relatively short for a diver, should definitely be taken into consideration.

  • +2

i dont know why i bought this, lol.

  • Can't for the life of me decide between this or a turtle!

    • +1

      Why not both?

    • +4

      Why not get both.

I have had both, but my personal preference is the turtle.

      • +2

        Gentlemen prefer turtles.

    • To me comparing them side by side the Samurai feels like a step up in finishing / quality.

  • +3

I'm sure it's an awesome watch, but why would I want to support PADI? They're a business trying to monopolise the diving scene.

    • Agreed.

      • it’s because of the colour of the face more than. padi logo, sure if they did same face without logo and maybe cheaper than that would be the choice.

  • +1

This watch is too large for my small wrist. I'm looking for diver under 38mm, any recommendations?

I like the 36.25mm Omega Seamaster 300m in black.

Longines Hydroconquest is a cheaper alternative at 41mm.

But still a lot more than this deal.

    • +1

can't go wrong with a seamaster, if that's out of budget have a look at chris ward they do their trident divers in a 38mm

    • SKX013 ?

edit: but it's not "under" 38mm

  • Bought a simular Seiko automatic watch and had nothing but problems with even after returning it for repair. I will not be buying Seiko again.

    • What kind of problems do you have with it?

  • +1

If anyone wants a further 5% off coupon pm me. First one gets it!

  • Great deal. Sad as I got the Pepsi samurai on rubber for $329 3 months ago…. would have jumped on this straight away!

  • Now that is a good looking watch.

  • Child care, mortgage and ozb, not a good combo.
Bought one. Have been looking at some Vostok's. Does anyone know where to buy them other than eBay?

  • +4

Try SB5RE for 5% off. May be a one time code. Happy hunting.

    • Shit I just reordered mine and saved $19! Thanks!

  • how do YOU pronounce seiki?

    i say it like "say-ko"

    • I don't know how to write phonics but it's more "sey" than "say" if that makes sense.

The "ko" is the same as the co as in a baby's cot

    • +1

      psycho.

  • Thanks OP!

  • When does this expire?

    • Hopes it never expire :)

  • Looks like it's sold out now

  • +1

i missed it but it seems they do new colours every year , who knows next year it might be blue lagoon colour but they they call it sinkhole blue just so as not upset people trying to sell their blue lagoons.

i’m sure the wearable device market is cutting into their market share so hopefully they come back to things that have worked in design and colour e.g blue lagoon sold well, used wr200 monsters still command good prices so people like them, etc.

  • I would like to replace the band with the black silicone one on the SRPB53. Genuine only. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

  • +2

Plenty still available on their eBay store. Any chance of Rep making some more available at this price?

    • i'm also curious to know

  • Starbuy have some more coming in a few weeks which I'm told may well be on sale straight away.
