  • Possible 10% more when you create an account with lenovo. The code is JULWELC2018 expiry August 31st 2018

Just tried this, coupon takes 10% off the original price and foregoes the deal. Ends up more expensive unfortunately

  • This or the Dell 5280 with 7th Gen processor.

I know the processor and screen here are better, but the SSD and batter life i believe was better with the Dell.

The Dell was also $698 before cash back and this is slightly more.

    Any ideas?

That dell scores more points in terms of portability (weight, size, battery) but this Lenovo scores better points on performance and display.

You can easily upgrade the hard drive on the Lenovo (it accepts both M.2 and 2.5" standards, so dual drive config is possible).

for best of both worlds (thin, light, powerful CPU and good screen) you'll need to spend more and get a Ryzen HP Envy but you'll need to be UniDays member to get discounted pricing.

      • Thanks. I am looking to build a gaming PC, so the laptop is in the interim. I wouldnt be looking to spend alot more, but these two look like they are in similar price range. I will need to see how much better is Lenovo, i also heard they pack their machines with too much bloatware that slows the PC heavily.

        • +1

the only Bloatware that came with my Lenovo E series was Lenovo Vantage (Windows Store application).

There might have been an antivirus installed but I can't remember. But bloatware is actually very minimal.

I kept Vantage installed because it's a utility that lets you grab OTA firmware updates, but otherwise it is quite unobtrusive.

        • @scrimshaw: Thanks.

        • @parallelparadox:

If you want removable batteries, you'll have to look at Lenovo T series as it has Power Bridge — it holds two batteries, one that is integrated and one removable.

Nowadays though you are able to charge laptops (like macbooks) with a powerbank. But you'll need

        • @scrimshaw: Yeah i was looking into this. The power bank was crazy expensive.

  • Do you think this can handle 4K video editing?

    Also, for Graphics it says:
Intel HD graphics in processor only, or AMD Radeon RX 500 graphics, 2GB DDR5 memory, digital monitor support via HDMI, supports dual independent displays; max. resolution: 1920x1080(HDMI) @60Hz

Does that mean it can’t ouput 4K when connect to an external monitor?

    • +1

It can do 4k but only at half the framerate. 30hz due to lack of bandwidth on the cheaper and outdated HDMI 1.4 output specification.

      here is the specs. https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sys/PDF/ThinkPad/ThinkPad%2…

      • Ok thanks. I’m guessing it would struggle with 4K editing then.

    • I have this laptop. You can use the USB C for display out at 4k 60hz. I have a USBC to display port adapter and it works fine.

  • Oops

  • good laptop, small hdd but its user upgradeable and has a second hdd bay. I like mine.

  • 10% cashback actually brings price down to ~$790 I believe. Very rare that cashback is paid on GST.

    Price is $790 + $79 GST ($869)
    Cashback is 10% of $790 ($79)
    $869 - $79 cashback = $790.

  • Does anyone have proof of 10% cashback? Shopback have stooged me and only given me 4%
