"4k premium " tells me nothing, what version is this cable?

    • +5

      4K60 needs 18.2Gbps I think.

      • Only 4k60 @ 4:4:4 or 4k60 10bit HDR @ 4:2:2 needs 18.2Gbps (both run at 17.82Gbps)

        4k60 @ 4:2:0 non-HDR runs at 8.91Gbps, and 11.14 with HDR-10

    • +4

Going by the 10.2 GBPS bandwidth + 4K support, it looks like HDMI 1.4.

      From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI:
"HDMI 1.4 added support for 4096×2160 at 24 Hz"
"HDMI 2.0 increases the maximum bandwidth to 18.0 Gbit/s"

  • Yeah needs a version/spec

    • Free shipping …

    • +1

      1.4

      • +14

It doesn't support HDR or 4k/60. Not very premium. A 10 year old cable can do what this cable does.

        • +8

@techplayground: My response uses eloquent language and an abundance of non-colloquial language whilst being superfluosly absent of any definitive meaning. It could therefore also, however, therefore deemed to be a premium response by means of your definition.

  • +26

    Normally $34.95

    This doesn't work here mate.

    • +1

Thankyou for your advice. Was just quoting the price it was last in the market before ourselves and the other seller on Amazon reduced the price for a comparison point. Also, OzBargain suggests that’s how the title should be written.

    • +5

      “PRICED TO CLEAR - That's $1.19 a metre!“

      I’ll have 1 metre, please.

  • @Rep: Can this cable do 4k HDR 4:4:4?

    • +6

      Not a chance.

    • Only optical hdmi cables can do that.

    • Here is a link to data rates for HDMI.

      http://community.cedia.net/blogs/david-meyer/2018/05/16/hdmi…

      For 4k HDR10, 4:4:4 @ 24Hz, you need an 18Gbps cable (HDMI 2.0)

      For 4k HDR10 4:4:4 @ 60Hz, you need over 24Gbps - HDMI 2.1. Which as far as I'm aware isn't really mainstream tech yet.

I'd recommend looking for a HDMI "Premium Certified" cable (not just any cable with premium in the name, 'Premium Certified' cables come with a unique QR code to prove legitimacy and are tested to ensure the 18Gbps requirement.

    10.2 Gbps = HDMI v1.4

"Doesn't HDMI 1.4 support 4K Ultra HD? Yes it does. But there's a problem. As its name suggests, '4K' is four times the resolution of 1080p Full HD and it actually requires more bandwidth than the current HDMI 1.4 spec can handle.

While HDMI 1.4 has a throughput of 10.2Gbps, it's only enough to support a 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels at 24, 25 and 30Hz or to display full 4K (4096 x 2160 pixels) at 24Hz. The 2160p24 and 2160p30 formats might be good enough for movie playback, but they fall short of the 50/60Hz required for 4K TV broadcasts and future Ultra HD gaming.

HDMI 1.4 also only supports 8-bit colour at 4K. HDMI 2.0 improves upon this, offering 10 to 12-bit colour depth at Ultra HD resolutions."

      4K TV broadcasts

Dream on when our TV stations won't do 1080p.

      • They're skipping 1080p and going straight to the good stuff. Or so we hope.

      • +1

Agree, they'll die out before they adopt 4k free to air tv

  • +4

1.4 No deal for me. If this were 2.0 different story.

    • Thanks I was just about to complete my checkout!

  • not really a bargain for v1.4 HDMI even 5 bucks…

  • +3

    Yeah not buying a v1.4 cable…

  • "Premium" HDMI cable. Pfft. Is it made of diamond? Give me these any day.

    • I really need those $48,500 speaker cables displayed further down the page.

      • Now, they must be PREMIUM! :)

      • +6

The Q&A on that is hilarious. Here's one:

Q: Why is it so expensive?

        A: It cures polio.

        • We already cured that. It only exists in a test tube guarded by armed forces.

        • Nah. Was an outbreak over at png last month.

  • +3

Good price for general use (1080p or low end 4k), but not future proof!

  • +1

Protip: use of word "premium" in products sold in Australia is unregulated and undefined so even the cheapest of the cheap cables can call themselves premium and get away with it.
Same goes for food products and basically everything else.

    • +2

It’s described as ‘premium’ to differentiate from the other styles in the range by the brand. The cable and connectors are made of stronger and better quality materials than the basic model.

    • +2

If you use the word 'premium' to mislead customers, you can still get screwed over.

      Example:
      https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/telstra-to-pay-10-mill…

    • +1

There are however "Premium Certified" HDMI cables. They have a little orange sticker with a unique QR code that can be scanned. They have to meet certain requirements and bandwidth to be premium certified.

However, this is just your run of the mill cheapo HDMI cable with 'premium' slapped on the name to mislead consumers.

Any deals on a 2.0 rep?

    • Unfortunately, no….

    • +14

Any deals on a 2.0 rep?

      What's wrong with this rep?

      • Sorry, don't have any v2.0 cables to offer, even if I wanted to.

        • +12

A v2.0 rep handles whoosh better

        • @m9: a v2.0 rep will sell 2.0 cables

  • +1

Good price for a decent enough cable. Thanks rep!

  • I'm using a 5+ year old HDMI cord for 4K content. Audio seems to be out of sync at times. Will this HDMI cord help with the issue?

  • Ack. Just bought a PS4 Pro. Didn't think about needing a better cable to connect the receiver to the TV/monitor.

Any reliable 2.0 cables out there?

    • -1

I use Ugreen ones, they have an official store on Aliexpress.

They're higher quality, cheaper and longer lasting (haven't had a single ugreen cable of any type break so far) than anything available locally.

Of course, on Aliexpress there will be cheaper cables that aren't ugreen, but if you aren't buying a reputable brand it'll be a bit of a lottery trying to find a good one.

  • +1

Not in the market for this so no sour grapes-

To me using "Premium" means well built AND capable of performing at the best of today's standards. Cable may be "premium materials and manufacture" as a description here but is in no way "Premium".

Misleading ad speak that leaves me thinking businesses that product describe/advertise like this are a bit tricky.

At least the rep is responsive…but then again so was the rep when first appearance here for that ISP that collapsed a few months ago (danged if I can recall the ISP's name).

    • +1

The company I represent is in it’s 26th year of operation in manufacturing and distribution and ASX listed - so pretty safe… have a great weekend everybody!!!!

    • You thinking of Buzz?

  • Can't deliver to PO Box. Good, saves me some money then. :)

  • +1

    Cheers. Just broke mine :(

    thanks OP, just bought 8Pcs

  • PRICED TO CLEAR - That's $1.19 a metre!
Absurd promo comment unless one can buy it on a per metre basis. I am looking for a 1 meter cable hence can I buy one for $1.19?
That's not to say the deal is bad (as its not) but why compare to the cost of a 1 metre cable which is a product in its own right and not comparible pricewise!

    • There are actually 1m HDMI cables for $24.95 if you would like to purchase at the brand's website?

      • Exactly, thats my point. Its not $1.19 a metre :-)

    • +2

I don't see a problem with this. To me it's like going to supermarket where you can see for example how much a bag of flour cost per 100g to enable you to compare the price with another brand. Of course in this case just means you have to deal with extra length until such time in the future you may benefit from it.

      • Mmmmm not really as one can portion the flour out. One can't cut a HDMI cable to make 5 x smaller ones. A better comparison would be the price of a frying pan. You dont see a label at the supermarket on them per gram or per centimetre as it's a single item :-)
Anyhow, not a bad price for those that need a 5 metre one.

  • still on??

  • Expired on Amazon but available on techplayground. Will only buy if becomes available on amazon
