  • Don’t people have smart TVs these days anyway?

    • +5

This is a cheap way to turn a decent computer screen into a smart TV if you already have an Xbox One.

      Thanks OP!

      • What do you mean?

        • +3

Hi bwatt72, sorry about the rude reply from idonotknowwhy.

I use my Xbox One S with a computer screen. Connecting this Xbox One Digital TV Tuner to an antenna and my Xbox One S will allow me to watch live TV on my computer screen in addition to gaming, watching catch up TV and using the Xbox One S as a media centre.

        • +1

@ClimateBoogeyman: Spend their days? No. Spend a few moments when baby is asleep and work day is done? Why not. Better than sitting around drinking.

@BusMan247: Ah, looks like the driver of the aforementioned bus has arrived ;)

        • +1

          @toasty:

My Xbox is connected up to big TVs I will need to check if I have an antenna close i j just moved house and need to check so if I don't I take there is no use for this? My Xbox and TVs are in different room from other TVs in house.

        • +1

          @toasty:

Looks like I don't have an antenna point in the room where xbox one is so just have to use the app if I want to see TVs,

    • +2

Or if you only have one arial near a tv, you can use the Xbox to stream DTV to a laptop whilst someone else watches FTA on the main screen. This was useful whilst watching the FIFA World Cup on two screens.

      • What, so the Xbox casts it to the laptop? Didn't know it could do that?

        • It sure does, you'll need to plug a controller in but you can stream and watch tv or play games on it

        • +1

It does work but last time I tried it, it was SUPER buggy. I've always found Microsoft's implementation of remote play in general unreliable compared to Sony's, but then I haven't used either for years so YMMV

        • @unique452:

It's pretty reliable nowadays, if you're using an ethernet connection for your PC and the Xbox…

      • Can only stream the same channel though, right? (Can’t Watch two different things)

    • +1

      Yes and No.
Almost no projectors have tv tuners in them. So quite a few people would either buy a set top box, or buy a Xbox One S which has tv capability + 4K Bluray all in one.

Since the Xbox One S 1TB version went on sale for 179 or 199, that has become a very good buy.

      • +2

Yep this was me. Bought this tuner to watch TV on the projector.

  • I aready have an app which i use on my xbox that gives digital tv so what does this do?

    • +4

If you are using an app, you are using your internet connection to stream the feed.

This allows you to use an existing aerial socket, so you keep your bandwidth for more important things.

    • I have an Xbox One S. In my area TV reception is pretty bad. Never get channel 10. Though I am don't watch Free-to-air much. I would like to know if there is an app to watch all channels in Xbox

      • There's apps for SBS, ABC & Ten, not sure about the other 2, though I don't think you can watch live TV on them, only catchup.

        • I don't think there is an SBS app for Xbox. I wanted it so badly during FIFA. Couldn't find it.

        • @dealspider:

It looks like it has been removed, I had it a few years ago but looks like it has gone now. But it was only for catch up, not live tv I think.

      • +2

Not having channel 10 is a plus!

  • +1

    Thanks OP, just got one.

  • What's the point? Xbox doesn't record

    • I have my Xbox set up in the study with my PC, so this is a cheap way of getting TV there.

      • +1

Fair enough, I guess it's good if you are using it on a monitor without a TV, then again a PCIE TV tuner would give better results and would be able to record

        • +1

But also a lot more expensive. Also, not everyone has a PC connected up to said monitor either.

    • you can game and watch TV at the same time, XBOX has PIP.

      • Incorrect - this feature was removed.

  • OP, did you get the Argentina Xbox gold to work from your earlier post?

    • I got the 3 month pass through AU so didn't try hence asking those that have tried before to comment.

  • If only it could be used as a PVR

    • +5

You can use it with a raspberry pi running linux with VDR and an external usb hard drive. Then you will have a fully functioning PVR. I'd rather recommend the playstation tuner though, as it's a dual-tuner. I have a setup with an old atom based motherboard with integrated nvidia graphics and use two PS dual-tuner TV cards with VDR.

  • its showing me £3.95

    • +1

£4 to ship to Australis less the VAT.

    • Same. £8.93 after shipping.

Edit: Forgot to take off VAT

  • +1

That's interesting… according to this review (https://www.trustedreviews.com/reviews/xbox-one-digital-tv-t…) you can stream tv to your iOS devices (iPad, iPhone), and conversely use those same devices to control the Xbox One.

For instance, you could stream live tv to your iPad while you use the TV to play the Xbox, something that would come in very handy at our house!

Also has PLex and DLNA support.

  • Don't have Xbox. Can I play this directly to PC instead, to receive a TV broadcast on PC?

I lost my TV tuner. Need a replacement.

  • +2

Grabbed one at this price, which I reckon is priced about right seeing as it's a single tuner with no DVR function (but can stream FTA to other devices, which is cool).

    Cheers OP ;)

Will this work with KODI on Mac?

  • +4

Remember everyone there are no drivers for PC or MAC. (Only fan made drivers for Linux, "Not tested myself")

    • That's what I was about to ask :) Thanks.

    • +1

Virtualbox USB passthrough to a Linux VM

      • +1

        I bought one last deal.
Can confirm doesnt work in Windows.

Was fairly straight forward to get working in Ubuntu / TVHeadend.

Tempted to buy another for twin tuner setup…..

    • Hang on, this guy might be onto something.

The link indicates that plex is compatible on Windows with the "Hauppauge Freeview HD TV for Xbox One" and that "The 'Xbox One' tuners must be plugged into the computer running Plex Media Server, not into an Xbox One".

So this might work assuming what is posted is the same or sufficiently similar.

      Where have i gone wrong?

  • +1

Great deal OP, I thought I found a great bargain last time, always good too see lower prices!! :)

  • What’s the tuner like in these units?

Was wondering if it can pickup better reception then my TV tuner that struggles with some channels ;(

    • These tuners are often slightly more picky about the signal quality than TV tuners actually. if you have a small roof mounted antenna of this style: https://www.sciteq.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/p-1104-… ? They usually require an antenna amplifier, otherwise the signal is too weak.

      • +1

        Yer I do
What antenna should I be look at for a upgrade for this day and age of digital

    • Better off looking into an amp

      • Amplifier amplifies everything, including noise.

  • +4

Interesting little device, but I can't fathom ever watching free-to-air again lol.

  • Any recommendations for a good digital Antenna pls?

    • Any half decent quality roof mounted antenna and using quality fittings and cables will be fine. Ensure correct termination at all fittings etc.
Obviously having the antenna pointing in the correct direction to transmission towers is important.

  • Does anyone know if this will work with a raspberry pi

    • +1

There are linux drivers available. I think I just needed to update my Linux Kernel.

      • -1

        So you have it working

        • +1

not on a Rpi, but on a thinclient running Ubuntu with TvHeadend.

          https://imgur.com/a/V14rWPK

        • @psy: I think you have misinterpreted what a thin client signifies, fyi if your running Ubuntu and a video capture card it ain't a thin client

        • @marchi:

I know exactly what a thinclient is. I said it's running "ON" a thinclient.
          As in a HP ThinClient.

    • I haven't done so myself, but I saw people on IRC talking about how it works with some unofficial linux drivers.
Might not be plug and play, but since you have a rPI, you probably don't mind getting it to work yourself.

    • Actually, looks like it will work out of the box with Kernel 4.16+ https://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Xbox_One_Digital_TV_T…

  • Would this one work with Xbox 360? I googled but didn't help. Thanks.

If you register for an account first before you purchase, you automatically get 150 Reward Points, which you can use 100 of them for this purchase to get a £0.25 discount to bring down the total to £7.04.

  • The last time I watched free to air was Big Brother Uncut…

  • +2

awesome, just said to the wife the other day that i need to get one of these so i can watch footy and play the xbox at the same time whilst she cleans and cooks

    • I am struggling immensely for a reason to buy this but you may have solved my query

    • Unfortunately, you can't play games and watch TV at the same time.

  • Note as a heads up, MS removed the 'Snap' feature a while back which allowed you to game and watch TV at the same time. Don't believe this has been replaced as yet.

Stupid MS 'improvement'. Tbh the original interface when I bought the xbox in early 2017 was far superior to the current ad infested crap.

  • Wow fast delivery. Got it today

    Also no GST charged

    • seriously? im still waiting after ordering july 21st

      • Ordered on 31/07, received it today, quite fast but they don’t use tracking service, maybe you need to contact the seller and claim a loss. I chose to deliver to Auspost as a parcel collection.

  • If you get this then the xbox media remote is a must-buy as the controller is a pain to use. The remote is also very basic and not cheap. One other thing, you may want to keep in mind that Windows has become essentially spyware and you need to ask yourself the question if you want M$ to know what you play AND what you watch.
