It's from the Uk so expect to pay for a TV license…

    • +2

      What do you mean?

    • +4

Wow just googled UK TV License, what the that's a thing for them?!

      • Yes but then they do not see adverts on BBC channels

        • +2

We don’t get ads on ABC.

      • Good to see they’re still charging for a black and white license.

      • +3

Well, we pay for public TV through obligatory taxes. At least they get a choice whether they want to pay or not.

        • I’m sure they’d be paying for it in their taxes as well anyway.

    • +1

Not if they're shipping it out of the UK. I bought one from this exact shop for a similar price.
Plus, you only have to pay it once.

  • Region free?

    • +4

I have bought 2 from them and they work fine.

  • Sorry for a novice question, I just bought my first gaming console Xbox one X what will be purpose of this?

It’s a single tuner (I think) so doesn’t even fit the media centre criteria.

I had nova t USB 500 hauppauge (dual tuner) and as per Xbox I should be able to plug n play it didn’t work for me.
Maybe only newer hauppauge Odell’s work with it.

Unless Microsoft has updated the requirements for watching TV, it should let you do everything listed below as stated on their site.
They still sell them on their store so there must be some current support for it.

Applications for the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner

With the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner, you can access your favourite shows and channels by using the sound of your voice through the OneGuide and Kinect. You can also use the Xbox One Digital TV Tuner to:

      • Watch free-to-air DVB-T, DVB-T2, and DVB-C television channels without changing TV inputs. You can receive game invitations and notifications while watching
      • TV and even watch TV while waiting for a multiplayer match to start.
      • Watch TV when two or more apps are snapped or while using Skype or other apps.
      • Show TV listings in the OneGuide.
      • Create your own personal favourites in the OneGuide so you can easily choose what you want to watch.
      • Call out your favourite TV channel by name and start watching it instantly.
      • Access the OneGuide on Xbox SmartGlass with the ability to tune channels on your TV.
      • Find out which TV shows in the OneGuide are available on demand from video apps.
      • Access TV content from both the Digital TV Tuner and the HDMI-In input, all of which are integrated into the OneGuide and available in one place.
      • Use TV controls like stop, pause, forward, and rewind, in addition to voice controls via Kinect.
      • +2

If I'm not mistaken it doesn't record shows.
        Their OneGuide is good though.

        • +1

Yeah that’s true, you cannot record TV shows, which is a big let down considering the XB1 has an internal HDD, smh at MS decision not to allow recording.

It’s decent enough though as a TV tuner.

        • +2

@Jawanzar: Hopefully PS4 release one that can, just like the ps3.
Thought the TV guide on ps3 is not as good as xbox one

        • Unbelievable. You can't record programs? I wonder why MS decided to cripple this product. Shame. I would've gotten one otherwise.

        • Yep. No recording. Waste of a purchase really. Why i didn't get one a while back…

      • +4

The snap feature has also been disabled.

  • Pity max of 1…

  • +3

Use a 28 Degrees credit card to save on international transaction fee.

  • +2

thanks, have no idea if they will need/use it, but I'll put it aside with the minecraft deal set aside for xmas

  • I had this working great.

Until it just randomly decided to stop showing the guide at all. Re-doing the tuner didn't do anything, it would show the text of what was on if I switched to the channel, so I know it was getting EPG info, but it just wasn't storing it in the guide. I suspect it would have required a full console factory reset -_-, I just gave up.

    • There have been a few periods when the guide stopped working, but all fixed now.

    • +3

This was a pretty common issue around Jan-Feb this year. Since that period I haven't had any issues and I'd use it at least 3 times a week for watching free to air on my projector.

  • Can ya record like the ps3 version…?

    • No, which is very annoying. You can pause video, but pretty much it is just a tuner. I think they have stopped making this and stopped updating it? Useful for me since it saves having to swap inputs on the amp, and the TV guide format is nice looking. If you already can watch free to air easily, no reason to get this.

      • Cheers… How to remove Vat?

        • +1

I just ordered one. The vat was removed after I entered my address.

  • +2

    Ordered, thanks.
One question to anyone that has it- can you manually delete channels after tuning? Ie all the stupid shopping channels (I use OzBargain!)

  • +1

So this needs no antennae? Lets you get TV on a TV that has no aerial near it?

EDIT: Just saw a better photo, needs aerial input…

  • +3

I managed to get it cheaper, as I earned 100 points when signing up.
I used the discount code and the points, so mine ended up £8.24 ($14.67AUD).

  • does this work on android tv (nvidia shield) in australia?

    • +1

      xbox tuner..

      • +1

I'm aware, but i know people in other countries have this working on the nvidia shield

      • not only xbox

  • I’m curious, what is the point in getting this? I play Xbox on a tv and the tv tuner still needs a antenna connected so why would I buy this instead of just connecting to my tv?

    • I don’t have Kinect so the only worthwhile feature I can see is probably “watch tv while in matchmaking queue” and pause, stop, rewind etc shows

    • +2

I used to use it with Kinect and voice controls. So you could turn on the xbox without touching a remote and if you were lucky change channels but once the TV was going it usually became difficult for the Kintect to pick up commands.

Since they have discontinued the Kinect though I would say the only use for this is just for quick switching between Xbox apps and the TV so you don't have to switch inputs which is still pretty useful. Like you could check what was on Netflix and then just quickly switch to TV all through the Xbox.

MS decision to promise media centre then later cancelling was a real dick move

It is a sick joke to have the only 4k disc console be incapable of being a whole media centre (no recording tv etc)

    • +1

Removal of (already developed and fully functional) WMC from Windows in 10 was a dicker move.

  • No chance I can connect this to my Windows HTPC can i?

    • +2

      From Tomshardware.com
It should work the Xbox version is just a repackaged version of this unit.

      I reckon I'll give it a shot it's only $15

    • +1

I just plugged in the tuner (sitting on my desk from the last deal when I bought it) And was immediately recognised as 'Xbox TV Tuner'. So drivers are PnP for sure.

If you have the appropriate app, I don't see why it wouldn't work.

      • what app you used to watch TV?

So you can watch tv now on windows 10?

        Can it record?

        • Try Kodi

        • @rygle:

yes, but can it record TV using the Kodi app?

        • @pinkybrain: Just got Xbox USB tuner today & the installer for WinTV v8.5 application doesn't find the device. So eh pretty much a waste of $$$ unless a Linux driver for Xbox USB tuner is helpful for you.

Windows device manager says "There are no compatible drivers for this device."

I believe there are 2 xbox one USB tuner
There's the Microsoft version which is made by Panasonic I believe that the one I just brought & this one made by hauppauge

          http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/data_xboxtv.html

        • @Garbage Doll:

can you install kodi app on the xbox console
and record tv with the pvr function?

        • @pinkybrain:
Not sure as I don't have Xbox one. I believe you need a PC + TV tuner connected to PC & linked to Xbox to do that as Xbox kodi app can't record by it's own.

        • @Garbage Doll:

          oic, waste of time then.

I got a TV tuner on my PC, but this tuner looks interesting for an xbox if you can turn the xbox into a pvr with kodi installed on it.

I can't believer you bought this tuner to use on your PC..

It would have been better to just get a proper pc TV tuner..
It might have cost a bit more, but at least you wouldn't have wasted your money.

    • Just plugged it in. REcognised as a XBox USB Tuner. Doesnt load drivers.
Hauppauge software doesnt install drivers, and doesnt find the card.

  • Still using the PS3 TV Tuner on my HTPC but this will be good for a backup. Cheers.

  • Thanks grabbed one for console I picked up off amazon sale.

  • Any similar setup I can do with a Android TV Mi Box?

  • I still use an old PS3 Play TV as the tuner on my HTPC, any point of exchanging it with this?

  • There's no way this would work with a windows computer, for anyone purchasing for that reason…

  • Does anyone know if this works with MPEG4 channels?
