Awesome! Was actually looking for a code the other day to register for my first marathon. How did you find it?

    • +1

I literally searched yesterday for a code! I haven't worked my way up to a full marathon just yet. Did the SMH Half in May and going to do another half. Thanks OP.

they are fking all of us early sign-ups again! lucky i met the donation goals to get the run for free or i'd be pissed.

  • Hey i'm trying to sleep here.

BTW i'll be proposing their next discount code is '10%OFF'.

  • -2

You actually have to pay for that? Would have never thought a Marathon costs money

    • -2

      That's crazy isn't it!!!

$126 for a laser-printed certificate, lanyard, and the privilege to run with other sweaty people.

      Only in Sydney….

      • Every event cost money. City2Surf, Color Run, MS Sydney to Gong Ride, Spring Cycle etc Why act surprise?

        • I'm $126 surprised

        • +1

@dangerdanger: Works out to be $3/km, City2Surf is $5.50/km. Bargain!

        • @first in line:

Lol, we went to Great Ocean Road Marathon in May,
          I was intend to do 44k $139
then end up to do 60k $149 ($0.42/km extra)
          haha

        • @BennyDong:
Or you could run on any other day, $0.
But it's for charity, I think. Ok. :)
Not dissing your decision, just amazed at the "cost" someone has imposed on this event.

        • +1

@dangerdanger: are you aware that there are expenses when running such a large event

        • @jobler: Every business has expenses when running their 'event'. Doesn't stop us critiquing their prices.

And look at JetBombat's comment below - already paid for by tax-payers etc. Good to know where that registration money will be going to…

      • Well, all decent marathon events in EVERY country cost A LOT! Rarely less then $150

  • lol yuppies

    • I'm still getting my head over the price…

Managed by a non-for-profit Athletics Australia which in last year:
    - had $16m income ($9m out of that is gov funding, basically tax payer's money already)
    - spent $10m of that on: salaries ($5.3m), marketing ($0.9m), travel and accommodation ($3.9m). Some does a lot of travelling there!
    - $1.5m in payments is shared between 7 big wigs ($212k each on average)

So, basically, we as tax payers already paid $9m which well covers $5.5m of spending on events and activities. The extras that are charged feel like fluff for some folks to have a nice salary and travel around.

There you go! Good investigative work.

      That's $126 : $2 for a laser-printed certificate + lanyard, and $124 for the "not for profit".

Sweet Jesus, the President is none other than "i'll do anything for a dollar" Mark Arbib.

  • I've never entered a marathon before but thought it might be a fun activity to do with the wife and get a bit of exercise. (note: planning to do the bridge run or the half marathon).

How does the price of this one compare with other similar marathon events in Syd?

Really, if your are going to spend 12+ week's training for a marathon saving a couple of bucks for a marathon shouldn't even come into it.

      Maybe stock to Parkrun

hey, you can come to my house and run around the block 40 times for a slab of beer.

  • I’ve run in a number of overseas marathons as well as this one. In comparison the Blackmores Sydney marathon is expensive. Very poor expo, no freebies or goodies bag, you just come away with your bib number. Apart from the start and finish the rest of the Marathon is very boring with numerous double backs. Very few supporters or entertainment along the route. A lot of the run is back and forth through Centennial Park. The finish is very disappointing, no proper medal presentation, no fruit just a bottle of water, really poor considering you’ve just run 42.195km. They do give you a finishers running top, but so do all the other marathon events I’ve run so nothing special there. The organisers dine off the fact that you start at the harbour bridge and finish at the Opera House.

    • oh well at least the view is nice

  • Yes great view for the first and 42nd kilometre

    • I run behind the hot chicks

  • This voucher no longer works

    • really?! grrr…I was going to sign up this weekend
