Beware of the fat biatchh on George St Westfield. Refuses to let me android pay as she cannot check the card is same as my ID since Android play does not display name. She said apple pay can. Well, good for her, I don't have apple pay. So if you use apple pay, she will definitely check the name so beware.

    • Does that mean Apple Pay can or does display name?

    • Isnt that anti-compeiditive?

      Call ACCC on her

    • She said apple pay can

      No, Apple Pay does not.

      • She must own a iPhone.
Abit racist against other phone users…

      • She said there is an option to display the name on the card for apple pay. She took my phone to check as well as she didn't believe me that Android pay as no such option.

        • It is not appropriate to inspect customer's phone or wallet. She thinks she is a police?

        • wtf! i hoped she asked your permission. if she did that on my phone without my approval. i would yell at her

        • @Jared17: I would smack her lol. Yeah she asked if she could check my phone.

      • No, Apple Pay does not.

Correction - she is right, Apple Pay can show name of the card holder.

        • At the end of the day, she can't refuse Google Pay as the payment method.

        • @andylch:she thinks she can since she cannot verify the card I'm using is under my name. She even showed me a print out that she is required to check id as part of this promotion. Very stubborn. I guess I come back another day when its not her shift.

        • +4

@runamuck: She must work for Harvey Normans

        • @runamuck:
She can check ID, but it is her own problem if she cannot find the name on the card/app.

        • @runamuck:
          She probably needs a hug

    • +5

Can you post her photo so that we can avoid her?

      • +3

Hahahaha. Just avoid buying the gift card if you see a fat lady.

        • How fat she is? Please provide an example?
          Caucasian or Asian or Indian?

        • +6

          @andylch: {————-} that fat vs {.} or {—}

        • @andylch: Caucasian

      • +2

maybe she will also reject payments with the AMEX wearables given out tonight?

    • +1

I just purchased 4 gift card from that lady today, used Apple Pay, she just checked the name of one card in the Apple Pay, no everyone, so don’t worry if you have supplementary card under different names. Apple Pay show names in the information tab.

  • +1

    westfield booth next to microsoft.
there is one lady who do the id checks at the queue.
    i am a guy.
showed her my friend's (female name) amex with matching ID.
she didnt blink and said ok you are good.

whats the point???? when i bought $3,500 laptop with CC no store need to check my ID. just cant believe it

    • Power trip and 'doing job'.

      • +2

forgot to mention, it was female photo ID.

    • The lady is new i think, she still in training yesterday at Pitt street side.

    • +3

Gift Cards's are high risk item

    • So as long as we have our supps' photo IDs, then it's fine?

    • I am wondering if this is the standard practice when there is no Amex or any other promotion , if yes , i would say it is fine. If this is specific to this Amex promotion it is clearly an overkill , and even degrading TBH - I guess, lack of competition puts these guys in a position to abuse customers ( for teh sake of a few bad guys )

      • +1

Semi SOP, if it's a high value about >$995 usually they will check ID. Due to fraud.

But having 10 x $50 is weird but "not everyone has that many AMEX" cards, or knows how to do it.
Thus they put it into the too hard basket and ask.

Just like when Harvey Normans have their discounts, they refuse to accept AMEX< but VISA is fine.

        • Mind you, they aks for ID when people only buy one $50

        • @AllWins: Because of the influx of people buying them.

        • +1

@Turd: So they get panic ? What is the difference between this promotion and normal time ? The $20 " cash-back" can only go back to the account owners card - from Westffield prosective - the fraud risk doesn't increase, again, if they ask for ID all the time then they are just doing what they do - but if they do this in response to the influx of people cashing in the promtion - thinking checking ID will treduce the fraud - they are lokking at the wrong controls

        • @AllWins: Yes they panic. HQ are just overjealous people who dont like people getting a bargain, exactly like harvey norman people

        • @AllWins: exactly. amex offer has nothing to do with westfield. business as usual. people come and buy. any frauds with the card, customer deals with amex directly just like other cards visa masters etc. no need to enforce special policy.

        • +2

@dragonindespair: Again over zealous staff/managers. Happens each AMEX offer… ala Harvey Normans…

  • how big is the queue at Sydney Westfield?

    • +4

      {————-} This big.

    • +1

Microsoft side: about two people when I walked past just now

    • Was at Microsoft 30 mins ago. Just one other person lol. But no split payments. Had to pay 2.95 extra for each card(5x). Paid by iPhone. Easy job. Asian lady was cool.

  • Why everyone waiting till today to buy gc?

    • +1

All the good stuff happens today in Sydney

  • Someone tldr for me

How do I get 3 gift cards with cashback on each?

    • +1

Go to three different stores that sell gift cards.

      • -3

3 different westfield stores(booths)? in sydney just 2 as far as i know.

        • +3

Did I say three different Westfields? No. I said three different STORES.

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

Ok Cheers. So this would work?

Ideally would have been awesome to get it from the 1 place for 1 large purchase but looks like can't do that

          $50 Westfield
          $50 Myer
          $50 DJ

        • +1

@cyrax83: Yep. Make sure you register your card(s) beforehand.

        • +1

          @kerfuffle:

Yep cheers already done only have 1 card

        • +1

@cyrax83: Only 1 card - hand in your Ozbargain license.

  • Did anyone get the Amex bands they were giving out? You had a choice of two colours - grey and black. I am hoping that if I don't use mine, Amex will offer an incentive at some point.

    • Nope; wrists are too skinny for such accessories

    • +1

They look dumb and google pay can do the same

      • i will be using it as my phone doesnt have NFC. but yeah looks dumb and not waterproof i wish i am tech guy i will cut the chip and insert it under my fore arm skin.. wohoooooo

        • Probably against terms and conditions if you modify the band in any way

        • Isn’t it waterproof ?

        • -1

@spk: kind of, real leather but.

        • @dragonindespair:

"Genuine leather" grade ie. thin layer of leather glued on the surface.

        • @spk: No. I asked if you could swim with it and was told that the bands were only 'splashproof'.

  • Can anyone pls advise where are the gift cards in DJ sydney store? Need to use 4 cards

    • All counters

    • +1

Try the Manchester counter on Level 5 in Market Street and the Ground Floor Information Desk in Elizabeth Street

  • Was just there, nice vibe. So disappointed with the BONDS store if anyone else was looking forward to the 40% off. The store is temporarily closed from today for the next few days, but still taunts us with 40% off signs everywhere! They redirect you to Myer which only has 25% off and not nearly as much choice.

  • +1

    I just did

Sydney Westfield next to Microsoft store
Sydney Westfield Central Plaza underneath Myer
    Myer store

No issues. They did check ID's and aware of the promo, even Myer. The Westfield cards are $2.95 few but no biggie as it gives maximum flexibility

    • +2

of course they are aware. not often you see 30+ people lined up to buy giftcards at 9.30am when the staffs not even there yet. and those 30 people use 1 card name. AMEX

    • -6

Can you buy a $100 Westfield card and do split payment $50 x 2 amex card (same name) and pay 1 processing fee $2.95?

      • +2

geegus… already mentioned millions times read all comments from page 1 youll find the answer

        • -2

maybe its better to add it to the description so that people is aware?

        • +2

          @sillycow:

Maybe read the comments so that you're aware?

        • +1

@sillycow: Why do people need to spoon feed others not willing to read??

        • -4

@ronnknee: maybe people don't re-read all the comments from page 1 again when they've already read it from the deal posted. Also other people commenting on page 1 pushes other comments to page 2, 3, 4 etc.

Its not that i'm are lazy but didn't know it was answered already otherwise I wouldn't have asked.

If it was in the description, you will see it regardless what page you are viewing.

        • +5

@sillycow: Not really… It's not about page one or two or three.. If you are a true ozbargainer and trying to find deals, you would read every single comment/post. I have. So have many others.

        • +1

          @sillycow:

It's been mentioned several times, not just the first page. Did you read any comments at all?

      • +8

Can you buy a $100 Westfield card and do split payment $50 x 2 amex card (same name) and pay 1 processing fee $2.95?

Ripper idea, where have you been…? No one in OzB thought of this before

        • If either of you read the earlier posts… you would have seen it has… its why people jump in early as they can …because they allow it then they stop it because it takes too much time

          $200 split with 4

        • +4

          @Baghern:

          Whoosh.

      • Great idea.

    • I tried under the Myer just then. The guy wouldn't accept it without physical card

  • -3

Does different Westfield into desk count as different stores?

  • No one bothered to check ID anymore when it was approaching 9pm.

But earlier tonight, there was a short black woman checking ID+card along the queue, and only give you the corresponding no. of blank giftcard to process at the counter.

  • +1

Got an awesome young chap processed our cards without check ID at Sydney Central Plaza store. all card process no issues

Not so friendly lady at Pitt St mall we both ID checked, there we have our family IDs bring along and show her still reject us, say she have to be here buy it. Did the swap cards trick use my family card to paid after checking. My own 2 cards will use next time visit there end of this week. :)

Myer lady at toys section are just awesome, all card split payments no issue and even try to have friendly casual chat with you how happy she doing with many people last couple of days.

Not bordered line up for a little sushi at Amex vogue

  • +3

So yesterday, Pitt St did split transactions to speed up the process - except it still wasn't in our favour. They were only willing to do $50 gift card each (each one incurring at $2.95 as usual). Basically the process went like this: they swiped 5 gift cards in succession, typed in $52.95 for each transaction; each time after a tap, the next payment would automatically come up without them intervening.

From this experience, them not willing to split payment so that it speeds up the process is completely bullshit. It's actually much faster for everyone (they only have to write one gift card and the split payments are automatic once set up initially with no manual intervention). Westfield just wants to maximise their profits from the activation fees.

As someone who has spent their time on the registers, it's definitely not automatic when splitting payments. You have to manually type in the amount for each amount you want to split and if you're not careful, you can easily make a mistake on the transaction and have to cancel and start all over again.

      • +1

Self checkout at woolies and coles is the same. If you type in 50000 instead of 5000 you have to start over again!

      • +1

Correct, it's not automatic normally, as someone who has also spent some time on registers.

As someone who experienced this transaction, then only needed to set up the split payment initially (not after each payment) on their POS. After the person had done that, they went to help the other colleague while I was just tapping away.

Unless you've spent some time on their registers, I don't think you can say the automation after the initial setup is definitely not possible.

  • Half a dozen people in the queue Microsoft side just now

  • +1

Just finished off doing our 12 AMex cards today. At the Westfield (next to Microsoft), the lady said she can't accept payment from my phone unless she can see my name on the card. Fortunately, my name appears with Samsung Pay but not with Google Pay. I also learnt a game called "switcheroo". At Myers, the lady asked me to explain the promo to her as she wants to get in on it as well :)….complete contrast in attitudes!!

    • Did you ask her why she needs to see the name? And why she is noncompetitive/racist towards GooglePay?

      • -1

i will say hey my underwear has my name on do you want to check it too? we can go to that corner over there…..

  • Was at DJ westfield sydney and they only sell DJ gift cards so left. Can anyone advise of any other shop other than Westfield two help desks to get westfield or coles gift cards?

  • So whats the best way to spend for Melbourne? Coles Myer giftcard, what about the other 2? Is there is a westfield giftcards equivalent in Melbourne?

    • Is there is a westfield giftcards equivalent in Melbourne?

No. Spend your $50 at your favourite shops that are participating in the city. If you shop at UNIQLO, that's my top pick for Melbourne (no gift cards though).

      • Is split payment allowed at uniqlo? Say if my combined total is $400+ can i split into 8?

        • I don't know; try it out and let us know. Going by how impractical their returns policy is (from past experience), I wouldn't be surprised if they say no splitting.

        • +2

          @kerfuffle: i'll try that tomorrow.

        • +1

Yes allowed, I split two $105.95 with two amex, one tap one real card.

        • +1

It is allowed. I splitted across 2 cards (apple pay + physical card). The staff was so casual that I'm sure he would be fine even if i had to split into 8.

      • -1

we have westfields in Melbourne. Why doesn't it work here ?

        • +1

Because it's not a participating store
