  • I need to sell my Kogan 34' 1080p one first.

    • Haha, dual ultrawide? I've honestly had the 34" at the back of my mind for the past few months, how do you rate it?

      • It's fine for watching movie but not for web browsing. Just not clear enough.

        • Yes, I was reading reviews last night and they apparently have a lot of image issues.

  • Damn that's cheap. Now I just have to think of a way to justify purchasing this to SWMBO after having upgraded my monitor just a couple of months ago.

  • +1

I'm making a few assumptions here but:

    1. If it's a Korean monitor and using a Samsung panel (which it seems to be), then it's most likely a rejected panel. So potentially expect to have minor issues such as dead/stuck pixel.
    2. It's a VA panel on a big 34" ultra wide. I'd recommend you look at a similar panel because there will most likely be a lot of colour shift on the sides of the monitor even when facing directly at the centre of the monitor.

Anywho, it's Vesa mountable, looks pretty shlick and at $589 + delivery (unless you're very picky about your monitor) this seems to be a sweet deal!

    • Ghosting in gaming was the main complaint I read about

  • Based on response time 16ms, 7.8ms/OD can I say the 100Hz refresh rate is also OD so 60Hz native?

  • For an extra $100, you can get a similarly spec'd Korean monitor with IPS panel.

  • +3

Looks like an identical panel to my ASUS MX34VQ. I paid more than double this 18 months ago, but that's how leading edge tech works…

Great size and resolution for productivity with 2 good side-by-side windows. Also a good gaming panel although I admit sometimes ghosting is noticeable if you know what you're looking for. Not something that bothers me though ymmv. I've been playing twitch fps games at a pretty high level for a long time now and I've nothing to complain about response times.

If I'm correct reviews of the ASUS MX34VQ might give you some idea what to expect.

    • did some search looks like Philips 349x7 and Asus mx34vq could be share the same panel LTM340YP03?

  • Very tempting… that's a lot of screen for very little money!

  • im tempted but isn't 16ms for response time pretty bad as i heard 10ms and under is the go

    • Unless you're gaming you won't notice.

      • +3

Well a big point of this monitor is 100hz freesync, so good chances most people looking will be gaming.
But even then, i used to game on a VA panel, noticed no difference to my current IPS.

    • +4

Manufacturers often fudge these numbers to make them sound as good as possible. So they pick and choose what to represent as "response time", an exact same panel could be marketed as 4ms by one company and 16ms by another. It's simply not a reliable metric once you take into account to marketing.

For what it's worth 16ms is one frame at 60Hz, so it's nonsense for people who mostly use 60Hz panels to pretend there's some magic cut-off at 10ms. Each frame at 100Hz is 10ms obviously monitors marketed under 10ms can have responses well above this.

However response time is important with VA panels with some colour conversions (and these worst case scenarios will never be advertised). So with a monitor like this the usual response time will be almost indistinguishable from a really fast gaming monitor, but the worst case scenario may be noticeable as "ghosting" as I mentioned above. It doesn't bother me, and doesn't affect gameplay, but it does get on some people's nerves so ymmv.

  • I watched watch die hard on free to air TV and the frame rate seems OK, why would I expect better frames on a game if I'm happy with the frames watching an action movie.

I know it used to be a problem with flouro and energy saver bulbs as they as the blinked / synced at 50hz with the TV screen refreshing , but most people now have LED bulbs in their rooms, and drive monitors at 60hz min.

You sweet summer child. May your wallet grow fat while you live blissfully unaware of modern technologies.

  • been thinking about this monitor too last few weeks but was the 1080p version, but this 1440p now make it even better.

add another $150 able to get IPS Philips 34" Curved (349X7FJEW) 3440x1440 (21:9 WQHD) 4ms FreeSync.

I emailed helpdesk to ask what model is the panel and yet to get a reply.

the closest i can find for Samsung model is 34" CF791 but that's 4ms response time, could it be the same panel?

    • I mentioned a much closer panel in my post above. It seems quite similar to my ASUS MX34VQ, although the response times are listed differently I also mentioned a possible reason for this above. There was also a Korean monitor with similar specs last year but I don't know much about it.

The Sammy CF791 is a quantum dot panel with a 1500R curvature which means it's completely different.

      • ah, didn't realize the curve was different. MX34VQ about $252.80 different.

    • The Philips 34" Curved (349X7FJEW) is a VA panel according to the specs on the Philips website

      • +1

oops, dont know why i got the impression it was IPS.

  • anyone bought it yet?

Got a replied from helpdesk unfortunately they not able to find out what panel (model #) it was using.

  • Delivery was free even without the paypal subscription thing. That’s a bonus

  • Anyone know if freesync is 45Hz to 100Hz on this monitor? I know Phillips' ultrawide monitor can go up to 100Hz, but when it comes to freesync, only goes up to 70Hz. Hopefully that's not the case here.
Edit: Saw from the comment above, it's the 349X7FJEW and in the manual -
"On DisplayPort Mode, can’t support FreeSync if the V.Freq>69Hz"

    • i guess if didn't go up to 100hz will be false advertising?

  • Not sure anyone end up pre-order it, i went ahead to order this morning with free shipping.

  • so how well would a 1080 drive it and is it 60hz or 75hz without freesync, which im guessing is how you get 100hz

  • Well i went ahead and pre-ordered also lets see where this purchase takes us :D

    • +1

came with 14 days change of mind for kogan brands so can always make use of it. But not sure how easy to returns.

      https://www.kogan.com/au/returns-policy/

      • Kogan are good with that just keep all original packaging so they can resell, just means taking care of things when you unpack

  • I believe i have found the exact monitor and Linus reviews it, i was going to take screen snips and show the kogan one but you'll just have to watch the review

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vvdvjralvs

    • +1

i didnt look thru the video only check the amazon reviews. Hopefully kogan not as bad.
      only 3 weeks to go!

      • yeah hard to wait 3 weeks cant i just go for a long sleep hahahah

Linus gave it a fair review, for the money we are paying don't expect Predator performance but ill be happy if it hits 100hz with a 1080 and no tearing

"FreeSync monitor with NVIDIA graphics card = regular monitor. The experience is just like using any other monitor. Tearing can be prevented by using V-Sync or some other variant like FastSync. "

        Source Toms Hardware Guide

        • Is 100hz available for NVIDIA graphics card?

        • @RevCat:

none of us really know, i would assume yes, but just not freesync smoothing

  • I wonder if this is Samsung's version of this panel

    • really nothing here yet

Looks like they've changed the shipping, now says it leaves the warehouse in 1-2 business days. Guess it's coming earlier than expected?

  • +1

awesome, maybe they sold the volume they needed to secure that price so can ship early

    thats awesome news

    /edit yes i used awesome twice :D :p

  • +1

Received it today! I need to VESA mount it, but the instructions don't say anything! I can only assume I'm supposed to remove the black screws and screw in the "extender" screws? I don't know if those extenders can support the weight.

Just like my recently returned ACER KG271A, having issues with using my DP KVM switch with this monitor. When plugged in via KVM using DP, monitor shows up blank. Not sure if this problem is unique to my KVM switch but my Acer XB270H doesn't have a problem.

FYI guys, the plastic parts of the monitor came in white (even the front chin of the monitor). A shame for me as all my other PC gear is black or grey. Initial inspection, no dead pixels. Will test out some games and other goodies this weekend and report back.

    • wow that was quick i still havent got email its been shipped

do you have the vesa arm already?

      • Yep. Had a dual arm I bought from officeworks, did some rough measurements before I bought the monitor to ensure it will fit alongside my 27". My issue is regarding the rear setup of the monitor to mount onto the arms.

        • Have you been able to put it through its pace yet, will we be pleasantly surprised?

        • @MadazTheSkitzo:

So how I mounted it seemed to work, had to tighten up the arms due to the weight and size of the screen, was just able to fit it side by side with my existing 27"

Works relatively well for games. Maybe it's in my head but I do feel there was some ghosting (looked a bit like motion blur in GTA V?), perhaps that's in my head. I didn't do any colour accuracy checks. There is no "overdrive" setting and have set it to "low" response rate which I'm hoping is 7.8ms as they have quoted.

I'm running a i7 6400t ES @ 4ghz & undervolted Vega 64, struggled on Monster Hunter until I reduced resolution scaling to lowest in order to get circa 80fps. That is going to be expected as 3440 x 1440 requires a pretty beefy system to get FPS over 60. GTA V worked fine but observed what looked like ghosting, by the time I fired up CS: GO my eyes had already adjusted to the monitor.

For the price I'm relatively pleased. I'm still yet to test the picture by picture and picture in picture modes.

        • @dazzles:

Nice, can't wait to receive mine, my estimate delivery is this week.

I also bought a desktop arm for it and is ready to put on it!

If your vega 64 still struggle, i guess my R9 380 will be worst, but lucky i am casual gamer and dont really care fps.

        • @dazzles:

Thanks im running similar i7 6700K @ 4ghz, but moved to the dark side and got a 1080 i had an original Vega64 but it was pretty noisy and a little warm, so sold it on ebay for $50 more than i paid and bought a MSI Gaming 1080 for $50 less than i paid for the Vega

the Hz is a 100hz panel with a 1080 im almost getting 100fps on game i hadnt seen any abnormalities

    • This is good to hear.. Reckon you could give any more of a review of it?
Interested how stable the stand is, if the frames generally nice or 'plastic-y', that sort of thing?

Oh and is there any issues with colour distortion at the edges due to viewing angle?

      Cheers in advance!

      • +1

yeah no problem, but wont be till late tonight

the stand is metal, but im using a gas lift monitor arm also from Kogan

        https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-monitor-mount-usb-cable-p…

I looked at one of those pixel fixer youtubes colour looked quiet even little to none light bleed on my monitor

the Menu is clunky i enabled freesync just because even though running GTX 1080 seems ok. out of the box it runs at 60hz but right click desktop and change display settings to max res and max hz and monitor shows running 100hz

      • +1

i dont think ill get a review done cbf but will try and play NFS now and see how driving games go, also on my old PC my HDMI cable broke so yesterdays play was via HDMI today on the supplied DP cable

        • +1

Ah yeah mate don't stress! Just general hands on stuff is valuable. Cheers

        • +2

@heineken016: Same boat here, i use a monitor arm so can't comment on the stability of the stand but it seems to be pretty durable and heavy so i don't think shaking is an issue. The frames including the bottom chin is a glossy white plastic like your typical monitor bezels.

As for viewing angle i'm not sure if it's just me but looking at it straight from the middle and looking side to side with a white background, it definitely distorts a little bit as it just looks like there's not a lot of light emitting to make it as bright as the middle.

seems to run at 100hz on all resolutions, and is noticeable coming from 60hz. I didn't notice much backlight bleed and panel seems to be free of dead pixels. I'm no hardcore gamer but i don't think ghosting is that noticeable, though i got some screen tearing every now and then with freesync on and off. I've only tested Witcher 3 and i'm running off a 1080ti+8600k and everything else seems to be fine. Can't say much either with colour accuracy, as it looks fine to me

        • @TheShiftyAsian: wait so when you say chin, is that the bottom strip with the kogan logo on it? Ie it's different than what the product picture looks like?

        • @heineken016:

yes the bottom piece of plastic is white

        • @MadazTheSkitzo:

damn that's sketchy as. definitely look black in the pics!

        • +1

          @heineken016:

yeah it is, but it still looks nice IRL

        • @MadazTheSkitzo:
any chance you could upload some snaps of the white plastic part?
Prob the only thing holding me back from ordering it!

          @heineken016:

I took a small video last night for whirlpool was going to post here today see \/\/ last post

        • @MadazTheSkitzo: legend!

  • everyone still happy with it after couple days use?

was supposed to get it on last friday but didn't. hopefully get it today.

    • yeah very happy with price per performance
      Checked games

      PUBG
      Need For Speed (2016)
      CS:GO

looking good 100+ FPS on all those games max detail i7 6700k GTX1080

  • Just got the monitor delivered, box was damaged, hopefully inside is okay. not happy

    • there's a lot of foam inside im sure it would be ok

  • alright. finally set it up. Agree that trying to install on the monitor arm can be tricky.
I dont know about you guys but my first top screws for the monitor plate don't screw all the way in even already tighten.
But the bottom two screws was okay, i might need to get some washer just so that it fill the gap.

Will take me sometime to get used to such a big screen!

Do you guys use windows scale? i am using 125% at the moment.

Beside dead pixel and refresh rate, what else you guys test?

    • im using it normal 100% screen scale

that's all the tests i had done, in game (PUBG) set my mouse sensitivity really high and did some 180 and 360 spinning to check for screen tearing and found no tearing

  • Would one of you kind gentlefolk be able to post some pictures at different angles, mainly around BLB and any smearing.
    Cheers in advance

NB: How was delivery - do they just dump it in the front if no ones home/auspost/courier?

so took a little bit of footage but its not the best this is not a true representation of how smooth it is

Check around screen for light bleed, this also has NFS 2016 footage https://youtu.be/kEn1koFf9W0

    CSGO https://youtu.be/577ruXf6NnU

  • Anyone getting motion sickness or headache looking at the screen?

What response time do you guys set? High?

    Thanks.

    • Yeah i had min set to high and Freesync on I dont think FS makes a difference since i dont have AMD

My setup. The photos of the bleed test don't show the true quality in real, is really not that bad, could be my angle or phone.
