There are pros and cons. I ordered a book about 2 weeks ago from Book Depository… it hasn't arrived yet. Looked up some books last night, and the savings (< $5) were not that substantial that it would warrant > 2 weeks delivery time.
Yes I tend to agree its very annoying that Australia doesn't allow for parrel imports. Sometimes feel the same way when I walk in there and have a look at a book I’m interested in.
That being said I will definitely use the voucher and have a look, no harm in seeing whats around.
http://booko.com.au/
always check here for prices
it notes the prices of alot of book stores, including borders
u can decide if it cheaper than bookdepoistory!(chances are no)why do they always exclude ebooks?
I can only presume because Borders ebooks are more sensibly priced in the first place (because they feel they have to respond to competition).
Borders "sticker" prices are such that they can only be regarded as sensible if there is an offer attached (because due to less competition they can sell some books at the rrp) - and they are set, like those of the department stores and fashion shops for example, to still be profitable after a discount has been offered.
The old adage "never pay retail" used to be wise wealth advice, now it is essential.
I had a look at some books and they were not only twice the price of what I found on Booko (prior to the discount) but delivery was free anyway.
Borders offers just remind me how ridiculously expensive their prices usually are (and are still usually overpriced even AFTER the discounts).
With 1,500 great ebooks on my idevices I can't see myself buying many new books from Australian bookshops this year.
Sadly (for them), my local Sanity store inevitably closed last week (a year or two after a management buyout) - I suspect some book stores will go a similar way.
Secondhand books of course are different (offering decent value).
just a side comment, borders asked for the 10% imposition of GST correct? would never buy from them again. Hello Book Depository!
