If anyones wondering how these go; these are still arguably the absolute top of the game when it comes to PC speakers. Logitech leads the market, and this model (along with the older Z5500 model) are the best of the best. Ive owned 2 sets of these (paid $400 each time) and have 0 regrets, still use them to this day. They also are in no way out of place as TV speakers if anyone doesnt have a hifi setup, as it comes with a remote and uses optical cable. Sound levels can be customized speaker by speaker (no software required, just use the remote) and the bass is ridiculous. Happy to answer any questions if anyone has any, I probably sound like a Logitech employee or some shit but I just really love this model hey

    • +2

I'd like to agree with above comment as well.
Also add that i use them as a mini home theatre as well using the optical input (1 from tv and 1 from xbox).
Works like a charm and plenty loud.
Xbox can control the volume using the builtin IR…

    • Hi, just wondering is there any sound lag or delay when using optical connection? I have that problem with my Panasonic TV and Sony CT180 soundbar. Thanks before.

      • +1

I use these speakers as my tv speakers - there is no sound delay at all!
        Love them!

      • Same thing here! Just be aware the toslink cable is not able to do 5.1 RAW audio. The cables do not have enough bandwidth for raw files but do for compressed audio. This might be an issue for some TVs that output toslink audio for raw 5.1.

        Hope that helps

      • Never had an issue with the sound delay (I was using the Z5500) :)

      • +1

I'm still rocking the older Z5500 using an XB1S as a media centre, haven't noticed any sound delay on the optical with them.

Love these Logitech speakers, had one problem which was a $2 fuse and Logitech even made it easy to get too.

      • Thanks all for the replies.

These are good PC Speakers, hell at that price they're a great deal too. But it's wrong to say they're the best PC Speakers. There are bookshelf speakers out there (that can be used as PC Speakers) that provide much cleaner & higher sound quality for a much higher price too.

For ease of use, price, and setup - this is an amazing deal though.

      • Agreed. Most people would be far better off with a pair of Yamaha HS5's or JBL 305p's. Vastly superior sound quality - unless of course they enjoy the Beats "fart-cannon" sound signature, in which case the Logitech's will suit.

        • What is the cost of those for a surround sound setup? I think they'd cost significantly more. I wouldn't say Logitech Z906 5.1 are the best speakers available, but they are definitely a great price to performance setup.

        • +19

The 2 speakers you mentioned are near field studio monitors with a flat response and no audio enhancements, made specifically for music production/mixing/mastering. They are designed to be listened to at a specific distance and angle, and they sound terrible if you don't do that. Not only that, but the HS5's have almost no bass (not sure about the JBL's) and from memory the frequency cut off is about 55hz. That would be a very silly choice to use as a computer or theater setup.

I have the HS5's with the HS10 sub for bass. If I didn't produce music then I would get the z906 or z550.

PS I made an account just to respond to you.

        • +1

          @Teedo:
If you don't want a flat response you could easily EQ a V shape if you're into that. Either way the z906 will not touch the high frequency reproduction offered by those 2 monitors as it lacks a physical tweeter. You also can't expect much soundstage from those tiny logitech drivers. There's no reason to downgrade from the HS5s.

Have two logitech systems and recently got an MB42x. With a sub, the MB42x sounds vastly superior.

        • @Bacons:
It depends what you are using it for. I have the z550 for my living room TV and karaoke system because it's loud and has bass. Near field monitors would be useless in that regard because you cant hear certain frequencies unless you are sitting directly in front and about 1m away. I'll be throwing it back onto a pc once we get a better sound system for the TV.

        • -1

@Teedo: Yes, I know what they are, and what they're for. The majority of people looking to purchase Logitech speakers are not doing so to use them in a lounge room; they're for desktop/PC use, which is inherently a nearfield listening position in most cases. Therefore, speakers designed for a nearfield listening position will, in most cases, be the best choice.

        • +3

@FabMan: Best computer 5.1 speakers 'for the price' would probably be more accurate.

        • +1

@KLoNe: Probably, but I don't think the wording is that critical, not an author.

        • +2

You can’t teach someone about quality sound in a discussion thread. Those who know anything about sound quality will not even venture into a discussion about Logitech speakers. OzB is about a price point. Period.

        • @thatguyfromthatplace:

It's a cheap 5.1 setup. Just as many people will be using them for the lounge. I'm listening to my 5500Ds right now and yes, they're now on the PC but only because I couldn't find a place for the rear satellites in my new house. For most of their life they lived in my TV room. And we all loved them for that. For watching blu-rays etc they really punch above their weight.

    • Totally agree. I’ve owned this model for 5 months and can’t fault them! I bought my set second hand Ebay for $249 and even then I had to stalk Ebay ads for months to get it at that price. Highly recommended!

    • +3

these are still arguably the absolute top of the game when it comes to PC speakers

Er … no they aren't. Who is arguing that?

    • @augernised I have Logitech Z623 THX certified speakers connected to my TV. Would this be upgrade ?

      • If you watch surround content (Netflix, Bluray, gaming) them yes otherwise not really

    • I just really love this model hey

      Are you from Brisbane? Lol

      • -1

I am, yet I don't say 'hey' on the end of a sentence… What's your point?

        • Oooooo someone needs a tissue

        • What's your point?

          I dunno aye

    • The fact that so many people believe this is a testament to the marketing of logitech.

    • genius hf500a @ $30 5 years ago
      were the best quality speakers
      needed for computers.
this is just a price hack
      and sales puffery.

    • Not only is it the top of the range for pc but the sound that comes out of these are mind blowing especially if one loves bass like myself!

  • How r these compared to g560

  • -1

might price match JB with 7% off gift cards

    • Did you have any luck with the price match?

  • +3

    No Bluetooth 🤔

  • This is a quality setup for the price. Have been extremely happy with mine

Hi guys, I need some advice.

I'm seriously considering buying a set of Pioneer SP-BS22-LR speakers. They have countless reviews, all saying that they are the best bookshelf speakers in the mid-price range. With the new eBay coupon 'PROXY' (with eBay plus trial), these speakers have gone down from $400 to $225.

These Logitech speakers look great as well, however, they have multiple speakers and might take up lots of space.

I will just be using these speakers just for music and video games in my room. I'm a 16 y.o. and plan on putting them on my medium-sized desk.

How do these (the Logitech and the Pioneer) speakers compare? I know they are completely different, but what would you guys suggest?

    Many thanks!

    • Do you have a link for the pioneer eBay you mentioned?

    • I have the BS22 rival; Micca MB42x which I picked up for 80 AUD. Most seem to agree that the BS22 is slightly better than the MB42x without DSP. However, if you don't mind DIY, you should consider the PE C-Notes which some have claimed to be even better than the KEF Q100s which is killer. Don't know how much they cost to ship to AU but if they end up costing a little over the BS22 all up, I would highly recommend picking up those over the BS22s. Note all these bookshelves require an amp to power.

C-Note Currently 100 USD excluding shipping.

      • still rocking my voll's from ozbargain a few years ago with a topping amp

looks great, doesnt take up much space and sound amazing when u orient them towards u

perfect for PC and cost like $200

    • +1

Wow 16 year old blowing $250'ish on some speakers. Wish I could do that as a kid! hahaha

    • +1

      http://noaudiophile.com/Pioneer_BS-22/

They're pretty decent. Do bear in mind though that as mentioned in the review they are overactive above 10khz, which potentially means issues with sibilance/sharp sounds. The fact that you're sixteen will likely exacerbate that too, as you should still have all your high frequency hearing. I'd recommend demoing them before you commit the cash.

Another option would be the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1's. They're pretty well regarded in the sub-$500 category.
      https://soundreference.com.au/wharfedale-diamond-9-1-bookshe…

    • I don’t know what they sound like playing games but I can tell you that as for music it pumps, the bass is great you definitely can’t go wrong. Plus wouldn’t you have to buy a receiver as well as they are only selling the speakers? You’d save yourself money if so if you go with the Logitech.

  • Could these be connected to a Mic and
be used in a hall setting easily?

  • +2

These speakers are incredible for the price i reckon. So im glad theyre back.

Only problem is, logitech hasnt updated these in a veryyy long time so its missing inputs that would be nice to have like hdmi

    • -4

And why would it need HDMI? There's no video output?

      • +3

Presumably for uncompressed surround sound. Most devices will be fine providing DD or DTS through toslink, but for my Nintendo Switch I had to buy a separate HDMI audio-splitter to get 5.1 from it.

        • +2

Finally, someone who's found an HDMI splitter in Australia that works for 5.1 lpcm!

Could you please let me know where you bought it from and what it's called? Practically everything I can find splits the audio, but that's it. LPCM is too large to carry on a TOSLINK cable, so it ends up without any output.

        • +1

          @BradleyDS2:
          This guy.
I think I bought it from Amazon US back when they shipped to us, but it may be available on Amazon AU, and failing that it's definitely on eBay.
Only issue I had was the centre/sub channel being wired in reverse. Just had to snip the cable and rewire it.

        • @grayadamson: Thanks for the link, had a look and looks like they cost 2/5ths what the z906's cost, which are also what I use, so I think I'll do without.

        • +1

          @BradleyDS2:
Yeah, there's no doubt it's crazy expensive. For me, it was worth it just to play Breath of the Wild in full surround sound. :-)

  • I'm interested as I listen to music about 35 hours a week at home. Was wondering if it is worth getting a 5.1 system when all of them will be on the one desk surrounding the user.

My desk is huge, so there's space but it might be awkward. Are some meant to go behind you?

    • +3

Most music is encoded in 2 channels so for music you should invest in quality instead of quantity.

      • That was my thought entirely.

Thinking of getting some bookshelves or the Z623 when it goes low.

        • Get the Edifier 2.0 for around $100-150 instead of the z623 imo

        • @nairdajun: What are they? R1700 BT?

  • How does this compare to the Logitech Z623? I currently own the Z623 and I must say the clarity and it's window shaking thunderous bass is something to die for. How does the Z906 perform in terms of sound and bass?

    • It's amazing. I have it set up in the living room for 5.1 surround, and the sound is just phenomenal. The bass is deeper and more natural than the z623 (which I have set up in the bedroom), and even turned way up it's crystal clear.

    • Depends on what you want to use the speakers for.

      Movies i'd suggest this speaker
      Music I'd stick with z623

    • I have both sets, the Z906 is a better set overall. Might be personal preference but, I enjoy having a centre speaker in every situation.
Have them paired up with a Xonar DX and are amazing.

  • Is this a sale price or current rrp

    • Current (SALE) RRP. It's not that cheap. usual is about $250-300 on sale.

    • Sale,
Best retail is local PC shops which go for $320-350
Brick and mortar go for $400+…

  • Better grab me me a set than

  • I wonder if the klipsch promedia ultra 5.1 thx speakers would pair well with this sub/amplifier (my PM 5.1 sub/amplifier's busted).

    • Get a proper amp like from Yamaha instead of using something like this system to control it. The wattage and ohms may be different, the z906 wasn’t designed to interchange with other speakers. You might have issues with power

  • Awesome speakers I use them as TV speakers.
I also use them for music by casting phone Spotify via TV Chromecast.

As for cable management I use Daiso's adhesive cable hooks (~12-16 hooks per packet depenidng on size, $2.5/pack)

  • +1

Great price. My mate has this system and it's pretty damn good. I've still got the old z5500 and she still makes the place rumble without a sweat.

  • Still rocking my Logitech stereo Z4's from 2010 lol

Don't think i need 7.1 my desk won't fit half of them

  • I picked up one one of these systems from Dick Smith back in 2013 for $250 which was a crazy low price at the time. 5 years later and they are still going well. The only time I would upgrade is if they failed or if Logitech released a Dolby Atmos system.

  • I am still using the Z680's (https://www.cnet.com/products/logitech-z-680/review/), the grandfather of this model as my main sound system.
DD5.1, DTS all the way from 2003 some 15 years later.
    Can't fault them!

    • Yep, me too. Except these days I only use them as 2.1 as I don't have enough space but they still sound awesome!

  • +1

The world has moved on … to HDMI. Otherwise, (these and) my own pairs of Z680 and Z550 are great.

    • I agree. I have a Z-5500 too but don't really use it as they don't interface with my Apple TV or Chromecast.
These days I'd only get a surround sound system with HDMI.

  • Anyone know when this special will end?

I am currently using the Z640's….. yes I know they are a little bit old but they did well for my needs. Only problem is the center channel dial is dieing on me…. need to find a sweet spot for it to work… lol

  • Thanks for the post! I have been looking for some speakers for my tv for a few months now, and was resigned to getting a soundbar. However, for this price and based on the good reviews here I have pulled the pin and purchased the z906 this morning.

My question now is, what is the best way to hook these up? I have a PS4 which I watch Plex and Netflix through. Is it better to connect the speakers bia optical straight into the PS4 or to the TV (pretty on Samsung Series 6)?

    Cheers

  • +1

have these been around for over 5yrs?
I think these are the same to my set.
price seems holds for these pretty well

  • Is this the best price in the last year? Don't think i have seen many deal for the in a while so just wondering historically are these listed at a better price in the past year?

  • Fantastic price, great product, would get some but don't need as I own 3 sets already, Bedroom, Cinema room and PC / Office

  • Serious trying to think of a reason to get this

    • +1

My reason was because it's on sale

  • Would someone be able to tell me what the dimensions of the control console is? On the Logitech website it says its 293 mm x 281 mm, which to me, doesn't seem quite right.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Are these wireless?

I got a little kid so need to replace my z550 that I use in the living room with something wireless so there are no cables running across the living room.

    • Unfortunately no they are wired. Consider running them along the wall with cable holders?

  • Officeworks have caught on and are charging $277 now.. no extra 5% discount
