Sony RX100 Mark 2 Digital Compact Camera $399.20 Delivered from Sony eBay (Box Damaged)

PROXY

TA's proxy code and no mistaking the irony

Seems a reasonable price with the next competitor at over $500

Comparison table for the different models can be viewed here

The table doesn't show that the inclusion of a view finder only became standard with model 3.

  • Too long in the tooth. IMHO, it'd be better to wait for a deal on the Mark IV or V for the EVF, dynamic range, ND filter and burst shuttle speed. I know it's often the case with technology but there are breakthroughs that are worth the price difference and incremental improvements that are not.

I agree with you but there wont be much improvement in dynamic range in the later models. Lots of extra features but image quality hasn't really improved since the original. In fact barely a third of a stop between the Mk I and Mk V:

      • How does a noob who wants an affordable but quality point-n-shoot interpret this chart?

        • Some folks consider the tilt screen a plus and Mark 1 is the only one without that function.
Some folks like a view finder and that is only on Mark 3 and above.
Some folks like the focal length on the Mark 1 and 2 over the later models.
I'm sure there is a bunch of other points for and against and you can read more about the difference between the Mark 2 and the Mark 3 HERE
This is a fair price for the Mark 2 and they sell around this price second hand in good condition.

          Hope this helps kbw.

If you're not into the ins and outs of photography, the advanced features of the latter models don't really matter and this will make a great P&S camera. The only likely complaint you may have is the relatively limited zoom range.

  • I had mark 2 and now 4, must admit for me preferred the 2.just a little smaller, also noticeably lighter in the pocket and much better battery life and it still took great photos.

    • I guess you've answered my question already but would this be suitable for someone that would only use the camera once a year? It's not out of date technology wise?

      • If you don't take many photos and have a good phone camera then you might find that is enough. Phones tend to be something you upgrade.

        • Thanks for responding. I do have a decent phone camera but was thinking more along the lines of when i go overseas. I imagine this would take better quality photos then a phone camera?

        • @F-22: For sure. The rx100 series rate highly and should give you great photos for many years. Very compact so easy to carry around.

        • @F-22: *Than

  • The ebay title says "Box Damaged" but the description says "Refurbished", how do we know its only just box damaged?

    • I don't know. That they list it as box damaged would suggest the camera is fine and refurbished is used in the generic sense.

Mine is as new, sealed, perfect.
Great little cam. It came with a 25 buck camera accessory voucher which expires in march, but it still worked.
You can pick up a screen protector for 25 bucks and just pay postage.
Or what I did, I ordered two grips (I have big hands) and will keep one spare for when I upgrade to current model in a few years time. Order value needs to be at least 25 bucks, grips are 19 each, so with postage I paid 22 bucks for two.yay!

And with my eBay plus Nd cash rewards, ended up paying 350 or so for the cam, so 375 with two grips. Hehe. Bargain little camera! Thanks OP!
