This game is surprisingly fantastic, if you are into turn-based tactical style battles.

One word of warning though: the gold edition was recently on sale in the US eShop for significantly less than it would cost to purchase this plus the DLC (the DLC by itself is still full priced). So if you are keen on the Donkey Kong DLC, you might be better off getting the Gold Edition. Otherwise, you'll be waiting for a sale on the DLC like the rest of us early adopters! :(

(Note: The Gold Edition cartridge is exactly the same as the original, and does not include the DLC on the cart - it is included as a DLC download code.)

From what I gather, the DK DLC is meant to be pretty good, with interesting new puzzles based on the new characters (you are locked to a specific team in the DLC, and the new characters can't be used outside of the DLC). However the weapons pack you get with the season pass / gold edition is not really necessary - it gives you more powerful weapons in the early game, but they are quickly overpowered by new weapons anyway. So it's really just about whether you want the DK DLC or happy with just the base game.

Seriously, this is one of the best games I've played on Switch. It's great.

    • Agreed. Probably the biggest surprise of last year, and in my top 3 games of the year.

I wasn't aware Nintendo were now making adult accessories…

      • I don't question these things, I just buy them.
Also, thanks for the working link, sir

  • great price - have wanted to pick this up for ages!

  • (Was $89.95)

Normal price for this is $49-$75, no way $90…

We're talking about EB Games here..

    • +1

$89.95 is still the official RRP and the original price listed on EB’s site. Are you suggesting I should have listed one of the prices in your hypothetical range rather than what is stated on the website itself?

        • +4

It is the normal price for this retailer. Stating a completely different price that you or I arbitrarily make up based on past deals since the game’s release would be far more misleading. The price in the deal is the current best price, the RRP quoted is the official RRP. Your comment offers nothing but previous deals that are not available anymore and are not as good as this one.

        • @mr_me450:

It is the normal price for this retailer.

Even if it was, that's no reason to misrepresent the saving in the title… Big W usually sells this for $49, so the saving is $13. No way are you saving $54….

          @mr_me450:

It is the normal price for this retailer.

Actually, if you follow your link and check, EB Games normally sold this for $44.97 for at least the last couple of months…

There is no mention there of them ever having sold this for $89.95 on ebay…

        • +5

@jv: If you have a problem with EB Games’ advertised prices then I suggest you take it up with them. In the meantime, I’ll stick to Ozbargain’s posting guidelines when creating titles for deals, rather than the rantings of a single commenter.

        • @mr_me450:

          EB Games’ advertised prices

you linked to the ebay store where the max price has been $44.98, not $89.95

        • @jv: The previous list price for this item is clearly stated as $89.95, hence why it is in the title. If the price had only ever been $44.98 it would not state this. If you are suggesting EB Games or eBay have in some way manipulated this number then you should make a complaint to them directly.

          @mr_me450:

The previous list price for this item is clearly stated as $89.9

Not on the store you linked to in this deal…

Saying "(Was $89.95)" is misleading as it clearly wasn't that price for the last 2 months…

        • +2

@jv: That is EXACTLY what is says on store I have linked to in the deal. EB Games’ sales tactics are not my concern, posting a deal with accurate information taken from the linked website is.

      • -1

Are you suggesting I should have listed one of the prices in your hypothetical range

Since the RRP numerals are a device that manipulates people's sense of value - or how much of a bargain it actually is - the next closest price would be less deceptive.

It would make it look like much less of a good deal while being at the same price still. Do you see the deception? It occurs because of something known as the anchoring effect which is subconscious and automatic for everybody.

        • +2

The original price in the title is the original price listed on the linked website. If you have a problem with that price then you’ll need to take it up with the retailer. I’m not about to make up an arbitrary previous price for the benefit of psychological theory every time I post a deal.

        • +1

@mr_me450: There's nothing arbitrary or no need to make up or even look for the price. It was and still is listed at AU $44.98. You get $35.98 by adding a code to reduce from that.

        • @mr_me450:

The original price in the title is the original price listed on the linked website.

Nope, you linked to the ebay store where the maximum price has been $44.98 for the last 2 months.

@jv: stop wasting your life bro

        • @Smigit: The previous list price for this item is clearly stated as $89.95, hence why it is in the title. If the previous list price stated $44.98 then I would have put that in the title instead. As mentioned in the deal description “the game is already discounted as part of their half yearly sale” and “is currently $35.98 with the 20% off ‘PLAYHOUSE’ code”.

        • @jv: You’re link directs to sales made of the item not to previous listing prices. The previous listing price is clearly stated at $89.95, which is the reason for it being in the title.

        • +2

@jv: Why are you even here?

Thanks OP, I grabbed it along with a couple of others, free pick up at my local!

    • what did you get?

      • Just the USB car charger linked above (looks cool and I need one), and a BoTW amiibo to replace one that my dog chewed on (lesson learnt)

I loved this game. It also has the Donkey Kong DLC season pass which is $29.95 on the Nintendo eshop. Keep in mind that the main game only has 4 levels, but it will take some time to get through, and get through with a good/perfect score.

As such, consider also buying the gold edition with the discount. Normal edition plus eshop DLC ($35.98 + $29.95 = $65.93) vs Gold Edition ($79.95 @ 80% = $63.96)

First world problems - I got the DLC which can't on-sold, but I assume the gold edition will allow you to on-sell the game plus its add-on. If the Gold Edition was available when I bought the game, then I would've bought that version for the resale.

    • The top commenter

(Note: The Gold Edition cartridge is exactly the same as the original, and does not include the DLC on the cart - it is included as a DLC download code.)

      • Thanks for clarifying! :)

  • Mario and rabbit kingdom so that should mean two games!

  • Looks like it's sold out.

Also is the gold edition worth getting? Is the donkey kong add on very good and worth it?

    • Really depends if you like XCOM-style RPG games, and like Mario + Rabbids in general. DK isn't a different game as such, it's just additional missions for the same base game, but with different characters.

  • Amazing game, get on it!

  • It's in stock if anyone is wondering.

  • Back in stock

  • Having issues accessing it in my cart, but showing as in stock. Anyone getting this issue?

    • Working fine for me
