Prescription Glasses/Sunglasses US $20 off (from US $31.95 ~AU $43.50 Shipped) @ 39dollarglasses.com

This US firm is one of the best out there for cheap prescription glasses/sunglasses.
Their Fourth of July sale is the best you'll get.

Non-sale base offer is US $39.00 + US $12.95 shipping (= US $51.95 ~ AU $71.00), but with US $20.00 off takes it down to around AU $43.50 (cheapest frame, clear).

You'll need to pay a little more for tinting (sunglasses) and better frames.

They also have a 20% off total order going (not stackable).

I would go black plastic frame for reading/sunnies/backup - you may wish to avoid metal frames as they require a finer touch when grinding the lens down. Also be careful with sizing - some are made for midgets.

  • Can you claim this from priv health fund?

    • +1

If you have extras cover that includes prescription glasses, then maybe.

You'd need to check with your specific fund as it varies - some have annual caps etc. If it does i wouldn't think it would matter where you bought them.

Make sure you provide the correct prescription, and whether they are for reading or not. Some Optometrists bulk bill for an eye test, but Medicare does place restrictions on how many within a certain time period they'll cover.

Probably not. You can ask but some funds don't recognise any online optical dispensaries. Others recognise only those located in Australia. (We have a couple but they're nowhere near this cheap.) Most health funds don't seem to care that using somewhere cheaper would keep you well under the cap.

      • bupa definitely doesn't cover overseas. I asked this question recently and only approved optical dispensaries are allowed.

  • Any ideas how they compare to zoff and jins? In terms of lens quality

  • Sorry OP, I think it expires 4 July 2018, might want to edit.

    • Oh yeah - thanks.

      • wouldn't that be 5th july here?

        • Sure, but not clear what time.

  • Australian optical shop charge so much.

They charge more than double than the actual price.

You guys might want to check out firmoo as it may come slightly cheaper

    • Thanks! I will!

They regularly pump out 50% off codes or sometimes even free glasses so essentially you just pay for the shipping and type of lense you want i.e thinning, tints and anti oil stains

    Good effort OP.

  • Summary of other firms that i've collected from this and other posts:

    Optically (AU!)
    Firmoo
    Clearly
    Zenni

Things can get out of hand pretty quickly once you go sunnies for some of them.
