Can anyone comment on how loud the "ticking" sound is?

    • +2

No disturbing ticking sounds since the clock has a silent quartz movement.

      • Lol….. Yes, I read that, but every wall clock I buy says that…. And they're not!

    • +21

      Sound is like this.

TICK.. TOCK.. TICK.. TOCK.. TICK.. TOCK

      • +21

        That's ok then….

I can cope with TICK.. TOCK.. TICK.. TOCK.. TICK.. TOCK

It's TICK.. TOCK.. TICK.. TOCK.. TICK.. TOCK I struggle with.

        And this kills me

TICK.. TOCK.. TICK.. TOCK.. TICK.. TOCK

Not withstanding those concerns it's a nice looking clock.

        • +15

It's the tocks that really tick me off.

      • How loud is the "tocking" sound?

        • As opposed to the "ticking" sound? ;)
It doesn't say, but hopefully this has a sweeping movement.

      • +1

i had a broken one that went

TOCK.. TICK.. TOCK.. TICK.. TOCK.. TICK

    • +8

so loud it’ll Tick you off

No idea why you are downvoted for a good question. I bought this to replace my 6 year-old dead clock, which was also from IKEA. Time-keeping is very accurate. No ticking sound in the bedroom. Second hand movement is pleasantly smooth. However the numbers are not legible at anytime anyday. Think of it as a decoration to hide that nail on the wall. The blue sweeping hand is very smooth, just like my Seiko.

      • I don’t think numbers on analog clocks are all that necessary. Most of the clocks in our house lack any numbering or markers.

        • +2

They are when you're completely brain dead looking after a new born at all sorts of hours.

Source: am parent who was completely brain dead looking after newborn at all sorts of hours.

Numbers help. And they will be great for the kid to learn with later.

        • @bumblebeetuna: I’m sure they’re helpful, I don’t think missing them makes the clock purely a “decoration” as the post I responded to stated. It’s still functional.

    • +1

no ticking sound..smooth movement..i put on my bedroom and i can hear no sound from the clock at least..

    • +2

I can confirm as I just went and bought one : seems like there are hundreds on a pallet in Ikea (SA).
It is a sweeping motion second hand, so no ticking. If you listen to it closely by putting your ear on the clock, a small motor sound is heard.
In a room it is completely silent.

      At $2.49, it's excellent value for a kid's clock.

      • Cheers!

    • +4

I had a listen to one at IKEA today and it was silent.

My partner also proceeded to point out that there were no batteries in the demo clock…

      • +1

        Now that's just being padantic!

        Username checks out.

    Excellent price. Thanks OP.

      Opp, my oversight. 😥

  • +14

6:30 hands down the best time

    • -2

1200 hands up the best time

    • +1

I think 12:00pm is better. That way you can see everything in front of you.

  • +12

How does one read a white clock with white numbers?

    • Guesstimating works for me.

    • +6

The numbers don't really move, so as long as you can see the hands you should be fine…

      • +1

        So why are they there?

    • +2

      form over function

    • You don't really need the numbers to tell the time

      • So why do they put numbers on a thing that tells the time.

        • +1

Style, tradition, children who don't know how to tell the time, looks etc.

With or without numbers you can still tell the time :)

        • +1

@spaceflight: You can still tell your speed on a car without the speedometer. Doesn't mean it should be written with white on white.

        • @StoneSin:

Unlike clocks speedometers are not standardised with the numbers always in the same position regardless of what car you were in.

So numbers in a car are important so you know what the needle is indicating.

    • +3

It's a stealth clock - no visible numbers & no sound.

Some people like to see the numbers…
Added a $1 USB light over top of a $9 33cm wood framed Kmart clock (big, highly legible black numbers). Works as a night light in kitchen & can easily see the time. Looks great. Added a dimmer on another for an elderly relative's bedroom.
But it ticks - so added foam between mechanism & wall which quietened it a lot.

      This clock is 20cm dia.

    • +3

The numbers are embossed, so just buy some hobby paint and go at it!

    • By remembering where they conventionally would be. We have multiple clocks here that have no numbers or markers. Can still use them to tell the time to an accurate enough level (within 2 or 3 minutes).

      • I like my time within the minute, if I wanted a clock with no numbers, I'd get one with no numbers, not one with numbers that are virtually invisible.

        • +4

          Get another clock then…

        • -2

          @dheywood: That's the point….

    • Just mark them dark with a sharpie?

    • Invert colours.

    • I used a black sharpie to colour the numbers and minute marks.

    • -1

      with ones eyes.

    • +2

You have to purchase the colour separately, the ultimate IKEA experience.

  • +1

Cheers. Any deals on watch straps?

  • For those who want a ticking sound for timing stretches, etc: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.anothermobi…
Sometimes it misses a tick but overall pretty reliable.

  • -2

Should have called it the SHIITY CLOCK.

  • +2

Unfortunately this clock wasn't silent enough for me so away it went. At least it wasn't a bit investment.
You can definitely still hear it in a quiet room but it is quieter than a 'normal' clock that will tick every second.

    • SO MUCH FOR 'SILENT QUARTZ MOVEMENT'.

  • +5

Stoma. What an unfortunate product name.

    • +1

It's vital that you keep this clock very clean.

      • And do not even think about sticking anything inappropriate in it.

    • It's Stomma….

  • is their a BIGGER one that's LOUDER please?

  • +2

I have the Bondis in our lounge room and it's perfect. It's big and black.

Funnily enough also a comment I got from pornhub.

  • +1

Anyone know how well it works with eneloops? A lot of clocks don't like the lower voltage of Nimh batteries.

    • +1

So far so good using IKea Ladda 1000mah on this clock.

      • Thanks!

    • IKEA recommends alkaline.

  • Timely deal.

  • Isn’t this the regular normal price at IKEA for this clock?

    • Probably.

    • What does the fact that the price is in a yellow box mean?

    • -6

When I go to buy this with click and collect.
      I get a $40 service fee :-/
      What’s the go with this?

      • Been like that since last year when they introduced the click and collect feature.

        https://www.pedestrian.tv/home/hej-u-guys-ikea-just-opened-u…

The Click and Collect is mostly for people who prefer to shop at home for bulk purchases without having to experience the pain of $1 hot dogs and navigating the IKEA maze.

      • No need to click and collect. They have crates of these clocks at Ikea.

        • -1

Ah ok thanks. Wasn’t aware of this.

And thanks to the others for negging my query.

        • -1

          @MickyT:
          No worries, mickyT.
Some on here are too quick to neg for no reason.
Have a +1 on me, and have a good day.

        • +1

          @MickyT:

And thanks to the others for negging my query

Voting down a popular deal, then complaining about being negged just brings on more negs! But you've been here long enough to know all that😉

I guess the negs were for your invalid neg (under voting guidelines) of this deal, not your "enquiry" I get a $40 service fee :-/ What’s the go with this? NEG!

Certainly good on you for alerting us of that unreasonable fee on a cheap item. But easily avoided.

You haven't revoked your neg, after it was explained to you about the service fee & there is no point in ordering online.

The only way for the community to remove a neg vote on a deal now is if there are at least 8 more negs than upvotes of your comment. Mods no longer are concerned with invalid neg votes.

This is regular price & usually so many in stock. So can't understand why this deal is so popular?? Tick… Tick… ⏰

      • Click and collect is a different concept with IKEA. There are two main goals: first, in Tasmania there are collection points but no stores (i.e. order from mainland inventory), and second, for people hiring a goget or borrowing a car to collect their items, click and collect reduces the amount of time for which they need the vehicle. It's a real cost to IKEA because they need additional staff to handle all of the orders (some of which are quite large and heavy). I imagine the people using click and collect to do ordinary IKEA shopping is quite limited.

  • Don't know why this post has gotten so many votes when the normal price for this clock has always been around $2.50 (+/- few cents).
The current model replaced this previous model a few months back. And the previous one was selling around the same ~$2 mark for as long as I remember (2+ years).

    • +2

But the current one looks better

  • +1

Thought it was a good price and tried to do click and collect…
IKEA wants a service fee of $40??? Is this normal?

    • +2

*$40 IMAF (Ikea Maze Avoidance Fee)

      • +2

Logan is easy to get out of:

Go to Småland's internal window, tell staff there that you are not feeling very well, hint that it may be meatball related, and request someone let you through the "No Exit" door near the entrance.

  • Pity it's not in black :(

    • Going through a Goth phase?!

      • I wish it were that simple. The wall it sits on is white, my ceilings are white, my house has white led's, the clock sits high on the wall so this needs to be something which is seen easily against all the other white. Black contrasts nicely.

For anyone having trouble on reading this clock, you can remove the cover and paint the number with marker. Just got mine done.
