Having tested these things out I just don't see why you're spending money on it over a $25 pedestal fan.

Yeah I'd love a $25 pedestal fan with heat function too!

My $14 heater bought in 2010 has the cool wind function

    • Yea cold fans no good in winter.

    • The only real reason I would say is due to how quiet it is. Good is you want the fan on you at night or if you don't want it to drown out the TV.

I'd still go the cheap option though.

      • I don't find my dyson fan quiet, quite the opposite actually. Can't beat a Column heater

guess this is similar to the hair dryers - https://www.news.com.au/technology/innovation/inventions/doe… :)

  • The Dyson name means lots to some people… Yes, we have a V6 Fluffy (bought for $299 thanks to OzB) that gets used every day and it works well so guilty as charged.

However, outside of a heatpump, (air conditioner) every heater will have the same impact on a given volume of air space. Sure, a fan heater will focus it better than an oil heater but that's it.

Put it this way a 1kW heater, be it a fan heater, Dyson, radiant, oil, infrared etc etc will heat the same size room up to the same extent in a given time for the same energy input.

It looks nice but just go for a basic heater if you don't have A/C

  • I bought one of these a few years ago. Not sure if they have made improvements to it since that but this thing is rubbish. Not cool enough in summer not hot enough in winter. Its only good for a small room.

We actually had it returned as there was an issue with the whole batch that year but Dyson gave us a replacement for free.

  • Worth it to heat a bedroom?

You have to remember that this is just a glorified fan heater….. It's pretty but that's it.

It can't warm or cool any more effectively than any other device outside of a proper A/C unit.

For a bedroom just stick to a basic heater unless you have A/C, in which case use that as they're about 3x more efficient.

I have the premium version with the purifier and wifi and it's really good for if u have kids or a baby. Its really cold in my house so i need to use a heater but my baby kept crawling up to the fan heater which has a hot face/grill. So i bought the dyson and i am now less worried cos it doesn't get as hot.

Definitely worth the price if u have young kids. I paid $600 for the upgraded model and would rather fork out that cash that have my baby burned

  • keen on the air purifier model
