Entertainment Book / App - $50 to $55 ($15 off)

3170

Hi, my friend who works for a cafe that's in the Entertainment Book sent me this link which gives $15 off the Book or App. This is a staff deal but worked for me.

Good deal I think. I've ordered the App after using the paper version previously. I think it's a better option.

Laurent is about to get a lot more staff

  • +1

Digital might be the way to go only, because the link mentions the book is sent to the workplace. Bit hard to pick up if you don't work for Laurent

    • +3

BAHAHAHHA I'm so tempted to waste lots of money and get heaps delivered to make working for this company worth it lol

      • +1

You're an OzBargainer not a money waster

        • -2

I agree but surely I can claim it back on tax…

        • +9

@Lockster: wow you earn above the tax free threshold?

        • +1

          @Lockster:
inall seriousness though i don't think buying ent book is tax deductible

        • +1

@xbai: it’s not. You can’t claim deductions as donations if you get something for it. Same applies to things like the EB Games mystery boxes that they do where proceeds go to charity and you receive some physical goods.

Exception I believe is if what you get is a token of sorts from and representing the charity, so something like an ANZAC badge or similar.

        • @xbai:

If you work in the food and restaurant industry it may be possible to claim it as you could say that you are checking out your competition or if a chef looking for new ideas. It is common for restaurant owners to visit other restaurants or even other countries for inspiration.

    • I made that mistake last year and barely made roi due to bugs in the app. It always didn't work when I was at the restaurant, didn't support my xzp screen resolution, wouldn't let me reset the password, etc. Not too mention you can't swap vouchers at work. The book is the way to go if you can get it.

  • +16

bought it just before the movie tickets deal and $15 off. Won't buy early again.

    • buy early to use from 1st June, depends on how much social you can go during this period, may save more than $15.

  • +3

Waiting for the $20 iTunes deal

    • Considering iTunes GC's are regularly at 15% off, and sometimes 20%+, is it really worth it to wait for the $20 iTunes card deal especially considering the past years these deals seem to pop up much later in the year (September) which would mean missing out on 2-3 months of book usage? I think 2 years ago $30 iTunes card deal is worth the wait though, if you are really in need of the credits. This one is instant saving, at the start of the "Entertainment Book Year" and seems to be a good deal overall.

  • What do we put in for "Additional Information
    Participating Business Location "

    • Well I got the app but maybe try your home address.

  • Question - can we use vouchers only once ? Like, McCafe says one complimentary coffee when another is purchased, limit of one person per day… does it means I can use it multiple times (on different days) or it’s just use once and it’s over ?

Similar stuffs for restaurants - 20% off, so does it means only once ? Or multiple times ?

    • +3

      One use per voucher.

      • It can depend on the vendor - my local Mexican Rest. gives us the 25% discount, but makes a point of never redeeming the voucher (meaning we go 10 times a year :-)

        • He isn’t aware of scanning ? Lol.. McCafe doesn’t says one time though.. they should ideally specify- use once.. ha

    • +1

One use per voucher, but Maccas are pretty Slack at redeeming the voucher in drive through. I used mine four times last year.

      • Do these people scan voucher ? As it does says one per day so I doubt it can be used multiple times..

        • No it’s not one you scan. They tap it and mark it redeemed. Think there’s a short reference code displayed too.

I’ve also found about 25% of the time the staff don’t mark the voucher redeemed.

      • +1

My local maccas/kfc sometimes doesn’t bother to press the redeem button on my app. So can use again. But yeah, pretty much 1 use if they press “redeem”

  • +8

I've ordered the App after using the paper version previously. I think it's a better option.

The app is convenient, but real OzBargainers get the book and swap vouchers from other people for the ones you don’t use

    • +1

Don't use it but could you not swap screenshots?

      • +2

I think the restaurant staff will make your pay full price when your "activate device/redeem" button doesn't work.

      • Unfortunately it's not that simple. As Ughhh has mentioned, you click a redemption button whilst paying the vendor which in turn provides a code for the staff to note down.

        • Oh I see - was thinking it may have been a barcode… good to know!

    • This is the second year I’ve bought it. Last year I got the book, but I kept forgetting it. Reckon the apps a better option for me, at least :)

  • +2

Can u get the $10 e-gift card too?

    • Good question. Not sure but surely worth a try. Let us know and I'll update the deal.

    • Just tried- with the Laurent link there is no box available for you to enter the code whereas if you go onto the entertainment book website and try to buy a book, it does allow you to enter the code.

    • No, the promo code box disappeared with this one

  • +2

Ordered one for the first time :)

  • +1

Works no probs. Unfortunately can’t add any extra codes for more discount but this is cheaper than their current $10 Woolworths WISH eGift Card offer.

  • ordered 1. Thanks OP :)

  • +1

What do you fill on "Participating Business Location"?

    • +1

      +1 waiting… anyone knows?

      • +2

        I added Australia.. lol
        It worked

        • +3

I just chucked in one of the Laurent Cafes from http://www.laurent.com.au/laurent-store-locations.html

I used: 1341 Princes Highway, Melbourne, VIC 3184

        • Similar deal last year and people got it sent to their homes without issue.

        • +1

Finally, I just put my business suburb

        • @StuartFoot: Yea I put in my own address (although, I bought the digital version), but used the above cafe as the "Participating Business Location" as that's another field to fill in.

    • +2

I put in WISHGIFT and I was able to checkout when purchasing the digital book. WISHful thinking that I might get sent a $10 gift card to my email.

      • where could you add the WISHGIFT code?

        • Where it said Participating Business Location. I’m not expecting to receive a wish gift card but thought I would give it a go as you could enter anything in that box with it still allowing you to checkout.

        • @Kelsok: did you receive the $10 gift card?

        • +1

Haven’t received anything as yet, will update if I do.

        • @tootoo84: Now that its Out of stock, is there another way to get this book at $50-55? Thx

  • Hi,

Sorry for noon question, what are the movie offers generally available for Melbourne via entertainment book?

    • +1

Closer to a midnight question, actually ;)

      • Sorry auto correct ruined it, wanted to write noob.

        • No need to apologise - I knew exactly what you meant to type, hehe.

    • They have a sample of the book for each region in the website. You can see what offers are available

    • Download the app, you should be able to preview the region's offers.

  • Can I use 15% off buy a Theme Parks entry for my friends as a gift? They're planning to go in Aug and haven't seen best offer yet.

    • +1

Check out RACQ. Groupon used to have them too. Don’t know if they still do.

  • +2

thanks op! first time gonna use it! $70 was a bit steep, but $55 no brainer

    • same here, i've seen last year's book and it had pretty decent discounts! got one right away to the phone, even easier! thanks OP

  • +2

Wow this is crazy value for $55

Anyone else having trouble downloading the Entertainment Australia app from Playstore? Ive tried on my both my wife and my LG G3's and my Samsung tablet but all keep getting a download error. A lot of review feedback recently from people having trouble getting the app to work. The response to various reviews from the app developer is that there is a problem with the latest version of the app and the underlying security settings in older versions of android.

    • I downloaded earlier without any issues

  • Hope it gets delivered…

  • just signed up to the app and just checking some deals but its saying "valid now to 1st June 2019" shouldn't it be until 1 year from membership activation?

    • +3

No 1st June 2019 is correct.

    • No,what it says is correct. New book published same time every year.

    • No, it's always been from 1st June of current year to 1st June the next year, irrespective of when you activate it.

      • ok thanks understood now :)

    • +1

Don't know why you were negged as it was a valid question.

      • -2

Because people are idiots and would rather neg than answer are pertinent question!

      • +1

A neg is a way of saying "no"? :-P

  • how many devices can you install the app and load your account on?

Also liked sharing the physical coupons but wondering how you'd do that with the app

  • Hmm… I just made an order for the physical book.

In the order confirmation email it’s states…

Delivery Option: Delivery to Business Address - $0.00

    Order Total: $55.69

When do I receive my order?
Your book will be delivered from 7-10 business days from the moment of purchase. If your book has not arrived within 7-10 business days please contact Laurent via email [email protected] or 0432 756 874 for details on estimated arrival of delivery.

It says it’ll be delivered to business address, but obviously it’s going to my actual address (work) that’s not one of Laurent’s location. I’m a bit worried that it then says if not arrived to contact Laurent.

    Anyone else worried too?

    • There was a similar deal last year and no issues getting books sent to people's homes. You'll be fine.

    • yes am worried too…

  • Thanks bought

  • I purchased EB last week from a friend's merchant's referral link like this, but there was promo code area so I still got my $10 wws e-gift card. Only downside is instead of giving discounted price, the $15 will be rewarded as cash back via the merchant by the end of this year.

    • care to share link?

  • do the proceeds of this one go to charity?

    • At this price, Im pretty sure that the $55 is the cost price of the book. The discount amount given would have been the amount gone to the organisation. Whether the organisation is a charity or not, you need to google if they are.

In another words, most likely $0 going to charity.

Source: I know someone who's a merchant in the book, $55 is their cost price (for metro city).

      • $55 cost price for few hundred pages book, noway

        • …the cost price for the merchant / the price the merchant (or organisation) pays to buy the book to resell. The merchant ie. restaurants/charity, don't make the book…

If anyone wants to have a peek on offers for Sydney 2018/19

    • anyone with link for Melbourne?

    • We’ve never used these books before. How does this work? Buy the book then what do we do with it?

      • +1

If you get the book, you wait until it expires and then read it, looking at how many times you could have used it if you hadn't forgotten the book at home. Then you put it in with either the other years or toilet reading.

Seriously, you apply the vouchers or codes to stores that are members to receive discounts.

  • Did people receive a confirmation email after purchasing? The checkout page froze after confirming payment.
The payment went through and money was taken out of my account but I haven't received any emails and the activation doesn't seem to be registered to my email when I login the app or website :(

    • +2

      Received 2 emails immediately

  • Yes, sir, I know how to make an eclair… ;)

  • Great share thanks

  • How do we who bought the electronic version trade vouchers?

  • App may open on <2 devices per 1 account, any luck for 'Play family library
    https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/7007852?hl=en ??

    • +1

The app is free. You need to login with your entertainment book account in the app, it's unrelated to Google Play.

      • This sounds right. I just wonder how practical it may be to swap logins, across handsets, if say one/two Ent books could be shared, to help use up the time limited and finite vouchers. Kind of limited if app was intended for a single license.

  • +1

For those who have ordered physical copies:

It clearly says DELIVERY IS TO YOUR WORKPLACE ONLY and has the pickup location listed, so you’re not going to receive it at your home address…

I would be very surprised if they are willing to hand these out to people who aren’t employees.

    Hopefully they’re feeling charitable :)
