Huawei P20 Pro (128GB 4G LTE)

Details
Huawei P20 Pro (128GB 4G LTE) is the higher spec and premium version of the 2018 released high end phablet P20 from Chinese phone maker Huawei. Like its smaller sibling, this bigger and better phone is also prominent for its super powerful photography prowess. This is the most advanced P-series handset and boasts Leica Triple Camera which happens to be one of the most sophisticated camera systems ever introduced in smartphones. It features an out-of-this-world Dual 40.0-Megapixels+20MP primary image sensors which capture incredibly detailed imagery that is fit for studio use. The Leica optics provide 3x lossless zoom with Phase detect AF and a dual LED built-in flash. This camera is capable of recording 4K and Ultra HD 2160p videos at 30fps. It also features a spectacular 24MP Full HD front camera with breathtaking clarity.

Physically, the handset is IP67 certified for dust and waterproofing for 1 meters submersion underwater for up to 30 minutes. The phone models a bigger display than the regular P20. It has a 6.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen OLED with a screen resolution of 1080 x 2244 pixels and 408ppi pixel density. It employs Emotion User interface EMUI 8.1. Android OS v8.1 (Oreo) is preloaded on to its huge 128GB ROM. The phone is equipped with a speedy Octa-core CPU having four 2.36GHz and four 1.8GHz processors on a Kirin 970 chip from HiSilicon. The chip features a larger 6GB RAM for blazing app processing and multitasking.

Some notable specs of the Huawei P20 Pro (128GB) are: 4G LTE network support, Wi-Fi, Mali-G72 MP12 GPU, Wi-Fi Direct, dual band, hotspot, Bluetooth v4.2 with A2DP/LE/EDR/aptX HD profiles, GPS/GLONASS, NFC, IR port, USB v3.1 with Type-C 1.0 reversible connector, fingerprint sensor, gyro, proximity, compass, HTML5, accelerometer and a non-removable 4000mAh Li-Po rechargeable battery.

Anyone in Sydney CBD that wants a free nilkin black case for this pm me.
I bought an xz2 version and they (some random ebay seller) sent me the wrong one.. so yeah no need for it.

EDIT: Being PM'd about the case.

    Wooah.. nice.. price coming down?
(Note: HK still asking $5700HKD for it.. and the current exchange rate is $5.70 HKD:$1 AUD - or $1000 AUD exactly - so this is a very good price).

    • Actually a little pissed haha, I got the P20 the other day for $636.65 (my P20 is local stock tho and should be here in a few days), should of held out a day or 2. Looks like a few off the HK supported vendors are having a little price war, helped out by discount code.

      • Only caveat is that this needs to enter Australia within 5 days.. lol.. or else it will be GSTed on the way in for another $82..

        • Yeah that might hurt

        • +9

A lot of people keep getting this wrong. It doesn’t need to enter the country before 01/07 - it needs to be purchased before this date, and an invoice with the purchase date may be required. If it gets held by customs and your shipping provider contacts you to collect import fees, you supply them with the invoice and the fees will not apply.

        • @aja12:
sorry I am a bit behind.

what's the news with all these GST on import ?? is there a new law from 1st of July??

  • +1

This looks like a really great phone. Anyone have any feedback?

    • Its great. I have a au stock twilight one. It has au bands in international one as well, plenty of storage, camera lives up to the promise

    • battery goes forever….compared to my previous iphone

  • +1

less than a 90% screen to body ratio in 2018??? I don't think so! /s

  • I assume there's no difference between the au version and grey stock?

Man the photos from these things look 🤤

    • Aus stock usually not Dual Sim.

      • +3

Aus stock for this was dual sim

    • how about the warranty?
Will I get Aus manufacture warranty?

  • Anyone else concerned about Huawei track record with mobile tech in uk? Also, the PM spent millions just to keep them out of Australasia.

    • +1

No reason to be concerned unless you're planning to overthrow the Chinese government.

    • +9

Are you talking about the PM that legislated that every single piece of your metadata is kept for two years so the government can spy on you?

    • +6

Casualty of propaganda in the US-China trade war. Cisco is full of NSA back doors.

  • Wowsers, China is taking over. This is more or less the best Android phone you can get right?

    • +2

Other than missing a 3.5mm jack, this is a pretty great phone. Edit: no memory card slot either :(

    • +3

It's the best if you want the best camera. Everything else about it is average to below average for a flagship (older SoC, no wireless charging or headphone jack, not the best screen, no other outstanding feature)

      • +2

Eh, as a P20 (non-pro) owner I actually find the Huawei's camera implementation annoying to use. The AI image processing often unrealistically oversaturates the image (particularly for greenery/sky), and comes with a grand total of 2 settings: On, or Off. No way to adjust the amount of editing, and no way to manually pick which modes to disable. Which is a shame, because some features like document scan are super useful. Beauty mode has the opposite problem; you can turn it down but it can never be completely turned off. Wtf is Huawei thinking, we're not all asian girls, I had to get a passport photo the other week and literally had to bust out my old phone in order to get an accurate picture.

        • +1

good summary…..waaaay too much processing going on. Sometimes it looks great other it actually makes me laugh it is so comical

  • Only black available at this price.

    • A hacked account I suspect but good luck :)

  • Wow, this is as good as the $799 Samsung S9 deal from Saturday. Plus more stock as that was only the first 200. I snagged one of those.

  • Wont the receipt still state $1025 rather than $820? That's still over the 1K mark and would attract tax right?

    • It would be $1025.

    • How much is tax? What does Amaysim list on their receipts?

  • Just wondering why should i choose this over oneplus 6 or xiaomi mi 8.
I prefer to have xiaomi mi 8 over this.

    • this has b28, better camera, better battery.

    • Oneplus 6 for me, managed to get a 128GB for $706.

But at $820, the P20 Pro is a great deal.

      • The Oneplus 6 is more developer-friendly. That phone would probably get Android S thanks to XDA devs.

Have had this for almost a month now. Amazing phone battery life is brilliant, everything runs smooth and the camera is great.

Coming from a OnePlus 3t, I'm very very happy
