  • Are you sure Prime free shipping applies? I thought it's only apply for shipment from Amazon AU including FBA related items, not for that item from Amazon US as third party seller?

    • AU Prime includes free shipping for goods sold by Amazon US as the third party for orders > $49.

      • Yup, free shipping does apply in this case.

On a related note, I also found that if I added multiple units to the cart without amazon prime, you only pay shipping once.

      • Thanks. I confirm this is written in the prime benefits. May sign up for Prime after all :)

  • Looks good

  • Pretty much all portable 4TB hard drives are hybrid SMR ones. There is a portion which is CMR (to store commonly used files) and a larger portion to store other data in SMR manner.

    • Just 4TB and above?
I havent been keeping up with this - what are the pros/cons?

  • Can this be used for MacOs? for write?

    • "Works interchangeably on PC and Mac computers—without needing to reformat"

    • +4

All HDDs can be. Worse case you just need to format it with disk utility first.

    • Format it as exfat and you can read/write on OSX and Windows

    • Thanks, this helps a lot,

  • Shuckable?

    • Yes

    • What's the point? They are too thick to put into any laptop?

      • Desktops do exist too.

        • This drive is slower + more expensive than 3.5" desktop 4TB HDDs & you lose the warranty on the drive when you shuck it.

        • @c0balt: You don't lose the warranty on a drive when you shuck it. The manufacturers might try and deny you but Australian consumer law is quite clear on the matter, and this deal is Amazon AU.

        • @c0balt: I have a case that has space at the base of the case for ether 3x2.5” drives or 2x3.5” ones. This would be relatively appealing in that space given I have other 2.5” ones I’ve pulled from laptops. Height isn’t an issue and I have 5x 3.5” drives in the driver bay.

  • I have one of these to use as a backup from my synology NAS.
cant figure it out as havent had time but this drive seems to go to sleep mode before the backup job is complete.

    any ideas?

      I don't have a technical answer/solution that answers your specific issue. Buuuuut;

There's programs you can use to alter how long the drive will stay spun up (sleep/idle time). Official ones made by the manufacturers.

You could try that and see if it would help.

      • Thanks buddy will give it a go shortly

      • gave it a go, that tool can't even find the drive. even though windows and other program see it fine.

        • Well that sucks.

I don't know what to tell you. I just tested it with a 5tb Seagate Backup Plus of mine (on Windows 10) to see and it works fine.

Can I use this for my Tv recording

  • Just bought a blue one with free Prime shipping.

Now I just have to remember to cancel Prime after free 30-day trial otherwise they start charging $4.95/month.

    • +2

Just cancel it now. You can still use it for 30 days

  • I received this drive this morning. Transferred 220gb to it from my other external drive and it took 4 hours! The transfer speed was 15.6mb/s. Anyone else getting similiar speeds? That's USB1.0 levels, even though my computer only has usb 2/3 ports!

    • Ok, I bought a USB 3.0 Hub, and connected the seagate 4tb drive and the Toshiba 1 tb drive to it. I then transferred large files from the toshiba to the seagate, and the transfer speed was as high as 100 mb/sec. So it was the USB port on my computer that was slow.
