  • hard to tell from picture if single hex or double hex sockets ….single would be nice. like all kits they bundle hex bits in there to get the number of pieces up.

single hex is a draw card for me as they fit better, and take up issues with tolerances in the sockets or if nuts slightly rounded.

i have a a couple of stanley kits and no issue with metallurgy, they are cr-v, drop forged, never had anything deform.

stanley, toolpro, sidchrome, kinchrome all seem to be same std and tolerances, it’s not until you get to stahlewille, hazel, etc that the tolerances tighten but then it’s over 4x the price of this set …

    • The photo on the Stanley website linked in @terrys comment above indicates the whole kit is single hex.

  • US$72 atm on Amazon U.S., though postage will kill it. I wonder if the Morrison Tax will be put on postage as well :-/
For those wanting to change the rear drum on a Kombi, no 1/2 drives but a nice set from a trustworthy name all the same.

Credit where credit is due. It's the Harvey Norman Tax

  • Great set had mine for about 3 years now.

  • It must have been down to $99 before as stated in reviews.

  • The code has just gone live in Adelaide…

Limited spanner sizes and 1/2" drive sockets.
Imperial sizes may not get used very much these days for most modern cars.

    • that's what I thought eg European or Asian, but if we start getting cars from the USA from holden and ford imperial will live once again.

  • Strange socket set….

  • Previously bought this set elsewhere to service my car. Then found out it didn’t have 32mm socket, so had to buy another. :o/. Great price though OP.

  • Thks picked up a set, the box is bigger than expected as they leave a bit of space between the sockets, but swingle hex is always nice…..another chance to loose the 10mm,12mmand 13mm sockets.

The lettering isn't as large or distinctive as I'd like.

Stanley seem to have sets in metal boxes, yellow and black plastic and all black plastic …they all seem tp price slightly differently for similar kit …. must be a $$ positioning thing.

  • Why do they have three drive sizes? If you have 1/4" and 1/2" sets, is there any advantage in having 3/8" as well?

It can make a difference when you have to get the head of the driver into tight spaces between what you are working on and the body/chassis of the vehicle. 1/4" are usually for smaller items without much torque, whereas the 1/2" are for units such as axles, head nuts and suspension components where there is space. 3/8" was always the 'norm' when I was a lad working on chariots…
