    What a load of rubbish!

    Am I allowed to neg on false advertising?

      There may be scientific approaches to interpreting dreams. Not to say they are mystical premonitions, but they may be informative.

      (I don't know about this particular product but I would gamble it's woo. But so is plenty of other stuff on here, so no need to neg)

        Being ignorant of something, does not make it rubbish.

          Show me published scientific articles that argue in favour of dream interpretation (published in the last 50 years) and I may change my tune.

          If there was an app that would help you speak to Santa/god/Nessie, I'd be posting objections as well, as I'm also "ignorant" of imaginary entities.

          @spludgey:

          Scientific approach does not necessarily mean published articles. I can have a scientific approach to how I behave on ozb - I don't, but even if I did I most probably wouldn't publish.

          Certainly most dream interpretation is intellectually lazy and otherwise bullshit. But all our lives are full of woo, whether we know it or not. If it's not directly hurting anyone else, who cares. Inform, don't object.

          @thevofa:
          Given that we're living in a post truth era, unfortunately you may be right. People don't care if what they're being told is actually true, as long as it sounds good to them.
          I think it's terrible, but it's not something that I'm going to change on any meaningful scale.

        • truth

          That's a loaded word. Best to stick with independently verifiable claims and leave truth out of it.

        • +1

          @thevofa: Don't be one of those people who say nothing can be considered 'true' for sure. That makes the word meaningless. It's an every day word. Let's keep it that way.

          Do you think people should drop that word and replace it with "independently verifiable" in every day language?

        • @lostn:

          "True" is a useful logical construct with precise meaning. "Truth" is that too, but can be much much more.

          No-one wars over logic but many lives have been destroyed in the pursuit of "truth."

          Take that as you will.

        • @thevofa:

          Wow. That was deep.

      • It's implying dreams that dreams can predict the future.
        If you've clicked on the link as well, you'll see that they claim that dreaming of salt means that you're self aware. There is ZERO scientific basis for this and the whole field of dream interpretation is hogwash: https://www.psychologytoday.com/au/blog/dream-catcher/201307…

        • Don’t blow a gasket champ. Not sure why you even clicked on the deal.

        • @furiousgeorge:
          From the name and the picture, I thought it might be a sleeping music app for a toddler.

        • I came to this conclusion as a teenager.

          The problem with dream interpretation dictionaries is you can only look up key words, but not the context behind them.

          e.g. I had a dream of being eaten by a shark. There is no entry for "eaten by a shark". But there is 'eating'. But there's a huge difference between 'eating' and 'being eaten'. But the dictionary makes no distinction. It would be an insanely thick book (we had books back then) and impractical to use, if it was specific enough to be useful.

          I believe dreams could have meaning or could be telling you something, but the same kind of dream might be telling you something different from person to person, making a dictionary worthless.
