I purchased the Schlage Sense lock from the Apple Store, for $399, about 3 months ago and I just noticed that Bunnings have the same lock at $312.61!
I have had a good experience with the lock with hardly any issues. So, I thought I should end my lurking streak, on OzB, with a first post.

Schlage are one of the worlds biggest lockmakers and have been for almost a hundred years.
The real question is why you think Samsung can make a good lock.
Samsung has been in the smart home industry longer than schlage. I've been using Samsung for more than 10 years on houses I built.
Never had any problem. Honestly schlage looks like shit and Samsung has more functionally.Smart home doesn't always equate to secure home.
If it's not secure then it's not a door lock.
if you not smart … you don't secure your home ( the plot thickens )
I have a Lockwood, Yale and Samsung spread between offices and homes.
The Samsung was the cheapest (direct import myself) but Bunnings now carries it at double the price I paid.
Unanimous across anyone who've used all the locks I have (mortise and deadbolt) that the Samsung is the clear winner. It reads fingerprints consistently, quick, touchpad works consistently and door locks consistently.
Not sure why anyone would come to the assumption that the Samsung is any worse than a locksmith brand.
Link to your overseas supplier please.
@kalt19:
Bought from this guy directly outside Amazon. They don't seem to sell internationally (or Australia specific) anymore and neither does their Amazon store.https://www.amazon.com/Fingerprint-SHS-H700-SHS-5230-touchpa…
Bunnings now carries this
https://www.bunnings.com.au/samsung-smart-shs-h705-digital-d…Probably why there's distributor restriction.
Because Schlage started out as a door lock company, as opposed to Samsung who started out as a tech company… I'd trust Schlage as a door lock over Samsung.
Schlage also supports Apple's HomeKit natively (and with the WiFi Adapter - which doesn't seem to be available locally https://www.schlage.com/en/home/products/BR400.html - it also supports Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa natively)
I use an Apple TV at home so don't require the WiFi Adapter but I enquired about it to use at work. Schlage customer service suggested they'll bring the product into Australia but they couldn't give me a date.
@phroghollow: I wonder what their reason might be. It is available to buy from eBay.
I am not sure if Samsung or Aqara are 'known' brands in the security industry, for both commercial and residential products. I would prefer Schlage or Lockwood over the rest.
I'd trust a Schlage lock before a Samsung…
Especially if the door is flammable :)
tbh I would not buy Samsung as they are just too popular, you just need to do a bit of research on the internet then you know how to unlock them.
Which is why I don't write my wifi password on my door.
I use the Kevo. No need for a pin, just have your phone on you and it's touch and go.
So anyone with your phone can also open your door?
You mean like if anyone with your key can also open your door?
there's some bad reviews on amazon.com.au from our fellow locals. how often do you have to fall back to using the key? i almost bought one last week but this put me off.
I've been using a kevo lock for a few months now. My phone is a Samsung S8 and rarely have any problems. The touch to open and lock feature works almost all the time but occasionally I've had to get the phone out and unlock using the app which does take a while in comparison to just unlocking with a regular key.
Problem has mainly been with my wife's iPhone X. The lock doesn't seem to recognise the phone and she can only use the app rather than the touch feature.
Overall I like it because I no longer worry about bringing a physical key with me anywhere. It would be far more useful if kevo plus was guaranteed to work in Australia allowing you to remotely unlock and lock the door.
I believe a more simple and practical solution would be a pin code lock. I paid $180 for my kevo on ebay via a private seller.
@bundy23: Is it possible you're referring to version 1? I know they had problems.
@mryan64: It's just really handy when you have a hand full of groceries.
@mryan64:thanks, this is what i wanted to hear, especially considering I have an S8 as well :-)
Be aware that without the wifi adapter you can't remote control it through internet nor add it to homekit(might be added through bluetooth?)
Since Euro started GDPR, some Xiaomi products already ceased to work in Euro which might be a case in Australia soon. So
Aqara lock might stop working later on.Yeah it works with home kit without Wifi adapter
I use mine without the WiFi Adapter. But you'll need to have an iPad or an Apple TV to act as a Homekit hub / bridge.
Has anyone got an eBay electronic lock? Something like below?
I know it won't be high security. I don't need high security. Just as long as it works and is convenient to use.
Also, how hard is the installation with the door strike being different to my current Gainsborough single Bolt?https://m.ebay.com.au/itm/4-Way-Universal-Smart-Door-Lock-Fi…
Looks like it has a custom mortice lock. You'll need to have a look at the installation template to see if you can replace the Gainsborough bolt.
Yeah, I wouldn't even consider random Chinese no-name brands for my door locks. High security? You'd be lucky if it's any security. Bunnings sell the Kwikset locks for less than $200, some less than $100 if you want to not spend too much.
