Sad to see that it's $159 on Amazon AU..

    Great post WN!

    • +11

Haha that's what you call AusBendOverAndTakeIt tax.

      • +2

if it was only the tax i wouldn’t have a problem as it would add 10% ….it’s the additional margin above the etc they are gouging that’s is the issue.

the media focus seems to be about gst and leveling the playing field ….it’s doesnt go into the margins we pay and gst still wouldn’t level, the playing field.

    • God that's a joke.

  • +4

Great post OP. I knew there was another Invicta somewhere.

  • +4

No more bargain after june :(

    • +10

Not from Amazon.com, thanks to the Harvey Norman Tax

        • +5

You should read the 1999 GST act and see why its such a joke even auditors are confudeled with the constant variations and improvements , this new OS tax is going to cost the tax payer many times more that the revenue raised.

        • +7

" foreign retailers should not be subject to GST "

Retailers aren't subject to GST - we are, they merely collect it. "Foreign" retailers probably baulk at having to having to pay for and manage the costs of such collection without particularly benefiting form the infrastructure, support and possible free handout of tax relief as local businesses do, merely to access 1% of the world market.

If the government want to collect GST, they have an organisation that was specifically formed to do that - except it has been subsumed into King Edward's war on children in leaky boats, and it would also be clear who was collecting the tax.

Ask your support worker to explain it - or run and complain to Border farce…

        • +4

the problem isn’t the gst and paying it ….the amount we are paying above and beyond gst compared to overseas is the gouged margins we pay …..if it was amazon plus 10% they would still be a bargain …..it’s the fact they have said “too hard, go elsewhere”. means we miss out not because of the gst savings ….but because they close up shop.

i work in IT and can understand what a pain the arse altering software and risk management for, their global sites would be vs just dealing with it on the australian site …. and the ROI ….

        • @garage sale: there is no software change required, Amazon.com already accommodates the different sales tax rates across each of the 50 US states.

This is amazon wanting to get in line with everyone else who price gouges Australia

      • +2

That Seiko is an impressive yet very casual watch and I can think of several slim-wristed Members who would appreciate its size.

  • +3

Good work WatchNerd, All these lovely watches and I bought a smartwatch.

  • +4

Damn you, WatchNerd. I didn't need this, or the nato strap i bought immediately after

    • +6

By the power vested in me it is my solemn duty to hereby absolve you of all blame and any residual guilt concerning the essential acquisition of this Invicta / Seiko exquisite horological masterpiece.

      • +2

Hey suburbanmate did you buy the Invicta or the Seiko?

    • +1

Where did you buy your Nato strap from?

      • +1

Just from Aliexpress. I have about 20 or so already, but thought the black invicta might go well with a Grey-black Bond Omega homage.

  • -6

Nice post @WatchNerd, though i'd personally wear a Matt Black before an Invicta any day.

    • +7

Haha that just goes to show how very little you know about watches. It's usually people who have never owned an Invicta Pro-Diver with a Seiko auto movement who say stuff like that.

I dare you to join Watchuseek and say that on the 8926 modding thread, you would get slaughtered. Link is in the description.

  • +2

Thanks watchnerd. but goddamn, that Seiko colour scheme is ugly.

    • The strap would for some be overly casual but it seems easy to change.

  • +2

Keep posting more deals before the Amazon US blockade happens.

    • +1

      please

  • This will do nicely in my collection of divers.

  • +2

Would love to see one more big post from the watchnerd + other watch folk before end of June, really looking for my last bargain :)

    • +1

Noted. I will get to posting more deals no worries.

  • Would break the rule of a lifetime about not buying Invicta and buy this….Seiko BUT I am still wearing the StarBuy Samurai I nabbed a couple of months ago. Looks good though, good price and gets good reviews. Very Rolex Homage Diver-ish but very cheap for a Seiko Auto.

    • +2

You'll miss out on some good deals with a rule like that. This Invicta is basically a Seiko 200m dive watch in disguise.

Watchuseek members who know way more about watches than me wouldn't spend many hours pulling these apart and modifying them if they were junk. Some of them do it more than once.

See the link to the modding thread in my description.

      • I used to spend loads of time on WUS and the other forums buying and selling mainly swiss autos. I've never modded an Invicta but i did play around with a Seiko SX007 a few years ago, there was a fairly big modding scene for them as well. I have a couple of SX007's and have often toyed with the idea of buying a Fifty Fathoms kit for one. Wasnt aware they were modding the Invictas but why not. I must admit though, there seems to be more Rolex Sub Homage watches around than any other.

        • +1

The SKX scene is still far ahead. Invicta has improved in QC and now that there's more aftermaket parts available and online guides they've grown in popularity. Most people have accepted their dubious marketing practices (as if they're the only ones) and there are not many quality complaints anymore, people are seeing them for what they really are - cheap, decent case, reliable movement. No-one's really taking these diving anyway.

  • +3

Nice deal. These invictas are quite a nice watch for 85-$100. I would like to buy another but I think ill keep wearing what I have until I feel the need to lash out on a orient Mako II.

    • +1

      Consider this.

    • +1

I already lashed out on a Mako II Pepsi. I'm gonna change to a leather strap.

      And yes, that's my post!

  • +2

these invictas are great deals for the price, I would get 8926 if I didnt already have the rubber strap version..I also bought three other invictas from the posts here and plan to give them as gifts..here is a pic

Thanks OP purchased one. Meets my requirements of a nice looking diver, fairly robust, seiko movement, small dial 40 mm or less, 200m WR, suitable as a daily beater. Once you get over the “Rolex look-a-like” it looks like superb value for money. Hacking movement is icing on the cake. The only thing I wish this had was sapphire glass, that would make it a standout. Specs on the SKX don’t really compare, especially when it’s selling for twice the price

    • +1

NB would splurge if anyone can find an Orient Mako USA II reasonably priced down under. Seems impossible to get without spending an arm and a leg

    • I disagree about the specs not comparing with the SKX as I believe it feels twice as expensive. I have owned two Invicta 8926OB and still own an SKX009. The Invicta feels small for 40mm and the bracelet is fairly thin and poor. I think the SKX has much better finishing and wears remarkably comfortably and small for its 42mm size. I would not trust an Invicta in water the same as the ISO rated SKX. Hacking would be nice on the SKX like the Invicta. However, the Invicta lume plots are small and weak which is a negative for me, especially next to the torch-like Seiko Lumibrite.

Since you mention you would like sapphire, may I suggest the Tisell Marine Diver with a Miyota 9015, sapphire, glidelock clasp and ceramic bezel insert with BGW9 lume. Absolutely annihilates the Invicta.

Thanks OP, I pulled the trigger on an 8926 last night….looks like a good watch to NATO and de-cyclops, It will go well with my Casio Royale in the rotation
