I've got last years Nokia 8 and I am loving it, pure Android with no manufacturers crap on it.

double the price of the Sharp Aquos S2 posted earlier.

    Worth for double the price?

The peace of mind of Android One and the monthly security updates does it for me.

Edit. Not this phone in particular but am willing to pay more for a phone with Android One. I have an M4A1.

      • As a CSGO player…what comes into my mind when I first read your "I have an M4A1" lol…

        • hahaha should be tagged NSFW.

I googled that earlier seeing the comment and quickly exited lol

          Anyone wanna disagree with me?!

For me, I'm after the Android One, and I'm leaning towards JB even with the markup - I waited ages for the China Mobile A3S and pokemon go isn't supported - for the Sharp Aquos, I really don't want to wait ages, muck around to install the Taiwan firmware, and find myself in the same situation. I'm willing to pay extra to avoid the hassle, and just tossing up whether I'm willing to pay extra again to avoid the wait

Downsides are that it has "the notch", Smile UX is not the best launcher, the 630 models have a plastic back, it is shipped with Chinese firmware, you need to install Taiwan firmware for Google Services, which seems straightforward and is explained on the Joybuy page.

      • I bought the Sharp Aquos S2 from Joybuy and arrived within 3 weeks. Flashed TW firmware and unlocked bootloader within 10-20 minutes. Works really well for a $210 phone. Photos are quiet good as good as the HTC U Ultra I'd say.

      • I would have gone with JB Hifi at a slight premium, but the phone is not dual SIM.

      Different?
      Aquos:
      - 'mediocre' camera
      - must flash your own OS (only comes with a China rom)
      - smaller phone
      - not stock android, updates unsure going forward
      - cheaper!

      7p:
      - 'decent' camera
      - works out of the box, no flashing needed
      - reliable OS updates (will get P when it comes out)
      - bigger phone

Do you have both phones? How do you know Sharp Aquos S2 only has mediocre camera?

    • Yes, interesting choice. Apart from Android differences, what about camera quality?

      • +2

7p is better, pretty decent (of course no p20). Still struggles in low light. The aquos does not have a good camera; it'll take shots ok for Facebook, but trendy Instagram bragging, probably not up for the task.

  • Ordered one. Estimated delivery: Fri. 8 Jun. - Mon. 9 Jul, so hopefully it arrives before the new GST rules.

Message from DHL arrived Friday evening. Phone is due to arrive on Wednesday. Hard complain about 3 business day delivery.

      • Arrived today from Hong Kong. Clearly under promising and over delivering. I doubt most Australian shippers would deliver this quickly.

Now I have a nervous week while the case I ordered from eBay seller in Sydney.

        • Cool thanks for the info. I was wondering how long it would actually take. Good phone?

        • @imahippy: Upgrading from a Moto G5+ and definitely an improvement. Happy so far.

        • @mathew42: I've decided that I prefer the finger print reader on the front with gestures to replace the standard android buttons at the bottom.

  • Got one to replace my wifes Nexus 6P. Very impressed so far, great battery life and the camera did a great job at Vivid.

  • Just a warning - eglobal sent me this message:

To prevent fraudulent activities, Please kindly provide photo copy of the following documentations for us to process the order.

    • Photo ID
    • Bill with shipping address (ex. utility bills)

If you're not comfortable sending this information, don't order with them…

You must have been flagged something in their system, because they dispatched my order within hours of payment.

The eBay & PayPal account I used do have several years of history at the same address.

      • It might have been that I tried to pay using a travel credit card (although it was still through paypal). My paypal and ebay account are also quite old so I don't think it's that.

      • Just an update on this issue:

Thank you for your reply. Sorry about the confusion. The message was supposed to send to another customer.

We are preparing the parcel and it will be dispatched soon. The tracking number will be upload after the parcel scanned by the courier.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for your understanding.

uh…well I guess all good then.

        • phone arrived today :)

        • does the phone comes with android one?
