  • do these guys pricejack like ebay?

    • Nope. Actual bargains to be had.
Go for the restaurant ones, or the airport parking ones. I find they're the best value, made even better by discount codes and cashback.

  • what's the 15% discount based off? After the 10% discount applied or before?

    • +1

The 15% is cashback, not discount per se.
It's applied on the after-discount price.
For example if you buy a voucher worth $100, the Groupon code brings it down to $90, which you then pay. Cashrewards will then pay you 15% of $90 at a later date.

      • Hey Mathsnerd.

What's a quick formula to calculate the total amount after discount applied (10% with 15% cashback) from the groupon webpage?

        Amount X 0.75?

        • +2

          Amount x 0.85 x 0.9

The discounts are multiplicitive, not additive.

        • @lostn: Thanks!!!

        • +1

          @Homr:

          Actually it's: Amount x 0.9 x 0.85

As the 10% discount is applied first, upon checkout. Then you get 15% cashback later.

        • +3

Doesn't work, as the Cashrewards 15% rate is applied after the 10% is taken off. So the calculation is more like:

          • 90% x 85% (these are the respective amounts that are "paid" by you)

          • 0.9 x 0.85 = 0.765

          • 0.765 = 76.5%

          • So you're paying only 76.5% of the initial displayed price

          • This amounts to a 100 - 76.5 = 23.5% total discount amount.

        • +1

          @MathNerd:

          Username checks out.

        • @JimmyLmao:

          Actually it's: Amount x 0.9 x 0.85

He's asking how to calculate the final real price paid. You can go Amount x 0.9 x 0.85 or Amount x 0.85 x 0.9.

The final result is the same, after the cashback. It does affect how much is credited back to you, but in the end the amount that left your wallet remains the same.

    • It actually doesn't matter what order you apply them in. But it will be 10% first, then 15% is cashback on the value after the 10% off.

    • who cares, just buy it

Or is it just a case of inflated RRP?

Hmm. It seems Groupon does not allow you to check out multiple items at once. You have to pay for each item separately, which means the $9.95 shipping has to be paid on every item.

Kind of kills the deal since I'm buying low value items.

  • Excuse me but when did they start flogging “battery operated thrusting rabbits” on Groupon?

Crap. I was in such a hurry due to Groupon's terrible site (does not have a cart) that I forgot to click through CR first. :(

I was switching browser (to no adblock browser) and thought I could save to cart in one browser, login with another browser and it would see the cart. And then open up CR, click through and go to cart and buy. But groupon does not use a cart system. Then I wasted time looking for the cart, and had to manually locate the item again via search, and by the time I did that, I forgot to go back to CR. :(

To cap it off, both of the items I purchased were from the same seller, so they charged me for double shipping. There's no way to add two items to the cart and checkout together.

I don't think I'll be using Groupon again anytime soon, if ever.

  • Couldn't find much to buy, only picked up the Spa deal at Langham hotel

  • How long do they usually take to ship goods? Got some sheets but read in fineprint it says 2 weeks, hoping that's a worst case.
