      • Thanks. I like recently roasted as it just seems to work well for my setup. Agree, a couple of days is usually prime. Anything beyond that though, if I'm buying a kg, I won't get through it in time and find by the last 250g or so it just comes out too fast and watery.

  • Best to use 14 days after roasting.

Yeah if you are able to drink all of the coffee in 1 day πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€ You are my new hero!

Placed my order, emailed them to ask if my Lucky Dip bag could be the Southern Mountains Blend cause every was raving about it… and rolled a natural 20. They replied straight away and couldn't be nicer about accommodating my request. If the coffee tastes half as good as everyone says, I'll be back!

    Thanks strange, lovely coffee guys!

    • HeHe thank you too kind customer!!

  • Are you able to do 2x Jamocha or Fortitude for $35 (Paypal to [email protected])?

    • Yup No problems. Will need to be Fortitude though as no Jamocha roasted at moment. Please leave notes in Paypal :)

  • Something seems to be wrong with paypal checkout.. :(

    • I just ordered with paypal without issue

    • Just checked and seems ok! What was the issue? Maybe try a different browser or clearing cookies?

Tried 3 browsers, including in-private mode with both my paypal account and a guest.. I'll try on a different computer

        • weird, let me know if you get really stuck and I can do eftpos over the phone or alternative method :)

  • Hey mate are these beans ok for automatic machines. We have Jura e8 in our office

    • Should work pretty well. All roasted medium - medium dark. The auto machines normally are set to looser tolerances ie courser grind settings so that they don't keep clogging up with slight bean or environment/temp/humidity settings etc causing people to call engineers out.

This is a general statement of course and can change according to machine and use but should be no problem with all 4 of these coffees.
Just means sometimes the extractions can come out a bit quicker and not be as good as a manual if you're chasing the perfect shot! Obviously volume and ease of use and cleanliness are their strong point though especially for bigger offices or higher volumes! :)

I don't think that these coffees will dissappoint :)

      • Thanks mate .. will order and check it out

How does it compare to coffee beans for Di Bella?

  • I like dark roast with a long, strong finish (!) but not sweet - any reco's?

    • How are you drinking it? Milk based? Probably need a darker roast of a blend but the darker you go the more sweetness and acidity you knock off so then won't perform as well for espresso etc as can become ashy and lacking sweetness!

      • strong latte!

  • Guy….Am a newbie to coffee beans.
Recently bought a EC685 Delonghi machine when it's on special to begin my journey from nes capsule.

Any suggestion if I can just use my wife's $2000 thermalmix to grind the beans? Or better off buying a grinder.

I don't drink, wife drink two cups a day, so better off to walk in store and pick up a 500gram bag to start? Otherwise usually how many cups would a kilo beans make ?

Would be buying from manna seeing all these good reviews.

    • No, if you have an espresso machine you will definitely need a grinder to go with it. This is because a thermalmix won't have a consistent grind. A consistent well configured grind from a coffee grinder is the difference between a good coffee or a bad one. Furthermore, I have the Breville Smart Grinder Pro which I picked up from JB Hi Fi for $189. I highly recommend it. :)

    • Better off buying a grinder (especially one that uses conical burrs), as your wife's Thermomix will not only be unable to grind it fine enough, but the blades will also introduce heat to the beans, thus affecting the quality of coffee that you will be able to extract..

EDIT - What he/she said above..:)

    • I would say a standard espresso shot uses 7-9 gms of beans.

a medium coffee uses two shots.
1000/18 = 55. I would assume it will make ~50 cups of coffee (wastage and all that…).

Happy to do 2 x 480g for $35 delivered and grind for you for your first order. Normally we offer grinding for all standard web sales but not for Ozbargain due to pricepoint.

Only just had a cursory look at Thermalmix and it doesn't look like a burr grinder! Burr grinder is really essential for a consistant grind with settings that you can change. The best cheapest that I've found that'll grind well enough for a commercial quality machine is the Breville smart grinder RRP $299 but often on special or 20% off Ebay and cashrewards etc.

Outside of this if not neding to grind as fine ie for other brewing methods like Aeropress or plunger or perhaps a cheaper coffee machine then there are some other cheaper alternatives like Sunbeam and Brevilles but remember Burr not blade!

If you need any help feel free to email me at [email protected] or if you want the offer above then you can send funds through Paypal to same email address and leave notes in Paypal :)

      Cheers
      Simon

      • Thanks. Will place an order tonight and leave a note in PayPal for the grinding service.

      Hey aja12,

Thanks for your order and welcome :) Yes initially you will receive a confirmation through Paypal and then following this you'll get an email with tracking details upon dispatch.

We usually put a Paypal receipt in with the coffee that comes out to you as well but we always have a record here if you ever need a tax receipt or copy emailed across down the track etc :)

Don't worry though, my coffee roasting skills are better than my website skills 😜😜😜😝😝😝

  • How does this compare to my International Roast Caterers Blend?

  • First time purchaser.

Ordered on Wednesday lunch time and the beans (4x480g) arrived at my work in Melbourne Friday mid-morning. Very impressive. However like many mentioned there is no roasting dates on the bags. Will try some this weekend.

    • Simon said on the first page that he was roasting on Wednesday night so you'll probably find he roasted them then and posted them the next morning.

      • Yes, I read that and take in good faith. I have no doubt the beans are freshly roasted (especially the increase in demand from sale). Just a suggestion it would be a good practice to have roast date on the bags.

        • +1

Whenever I get my delivery the postie comes to the door and says you bought coffee, my van smells lovely.

      • @ynotrekab Thanks, yes was roasting until 3am Wed to try to get as much coffee out to customers before weekend as possible :)

    • All fresh roasted to order :)

EDIT: Just seen you're update saying that you have received today.

        Cheers
        Simon

    • No updates, have sent email query. Hopefully like you guys, will receive something in the mail soon

      • Certainly will! All shipped now

  • Hello Rep,

Can you please provide an update for all orders placed as a part of this deal. I've tried contacting you via email and OzBargain but there was no response. Thanks.

    • I had the same issue as you and I've tried sending them a message via facebook and they've responded.

  • +3

All orders have been shipped. Although we usually ship same or next business day, due to the larger than usual response it took 2 days to send some orders on this occassion.

I was up until 3am Wednesday night so that the staff could label and hand pack Thursday to get express shipped for us to get as many customers their coffee for the weekend as possible.

The remainder and Fridays order would have turned up yesterday and today as Aus Post don't deliver on the weekend.

Although most likely actioned, any coffee request changes and individual follow up shipping enquiries were not all able to be answered immediately especially those within 24hrs of order placement as our main efforts and resources were concentrated on roasting and shipping the coffees so that our customers could get their coffees asap. Replying to individual requests on an immediate basis can slow up this process significantly.

It's better if possible to please allow at least 3 business days before asking us to follow up on orders. Usually customers would receive email notification the moment that the coffee is dispatched through the Aus Post E parcel system however on this occassion we shipped all coffees outside of this using 3kg express satchels which is why you may not have received tracking details as quickly.

Any remaining tracking numbers will be manually emailed out within next 2 hours but all coffee has already left.

    • -2

Answering individual emails is very time consuming. However, you have not posted any updates on this page while the list of people inquiring about the order kept growing.

People could change their "Auto-subscribe" settings so they automatically get status updates for this thread. A simple post here to let everyone know about order status would then suffice.

      • +1

Please see above! I have already updated everyone as above! "all orders have been shipped" This update was done within 24hrs.

The average processing time for this deal was still only 1-2 business days plus shipping time (allowing for weekend etc)

Auto-subscribing to the thread won't help track individual orders as they need tracking numbers to do that and Ozbargain names do not correlate to orders.

The biggest challenge to be honest is when there are loads of people requesting coffee changes by email after purchasing and then getting upset because I don't engage backwards and forwards negotiating with them.

I don't mind people leaving notes or emailing coffee requests and if possible I will always try to help but please don't expect a military timed response as these are requests at our discretion outside of the deal offering.

If this kind of customer service is required or specific roast profiles needed then feel free to order through the standard website listings/prices.

  • I do agree updating people always best and also agree replying to everyone is very time consuming and delaying the actual job at hand COFFEE….

Maybe put an out of office message on your emails when roasting :)

    • Thanks Geoff897 not a bad idea. We do often send an automated email as a reply to coffee change request.

To be honest we normally always accommodate the changes and send anyway but had to prioritize Coffee on this occassion.

Thanks for your suggestion and encouragement ;)

      • I'm not fussed at all as i know you are doing your best to get orders out, If their busy its a good thing as it means the beans will be roasted fresh,
If they were not busy you might be getting older beans that were sittings around. Either way i believe they should rest for 5-7 days after roasting.

Plus if you can use 1kg+ of beans in the first couple of days ide be impressed.

Just giving some idea's to help out.

        • Yup, good advice mate! The few days is certainly beneficial to allow the coffee to rest and degas. If air is forced out of bag in transit it may even be worth while opening the first bag and resealing on arrival to allow some air in to speed up degassing :)

  • -2

Or hire more people if demand is too much to handle? I received my coffee 7 days after first ordering it.

    • I have enough staff and demand is not too much to handle just a massive flood on this particular deal and not the norm. As I said we still roasted packed and shipped orders within a couple of days which I believe is reasonable. Normally same or following day but this needed an extra day for some orders

I suppose you have to factor in the weekend and Aus Post shipping time depending on where you live! Glad to hear you have your coffee and if on day 7 should be prime for your morning cup today :) Can't look up your order to clarify unless I have your email as Ozbargain names don't populate through Paypal for us to match so can't comment further on your individual case :)

      • +1

More staff could work but then they might need to raise price on the deal, Which we dont want!

I would guess you ordered later in the week then, 2 days for the weekend 2-3 days shipping 1 to 2 days to roast/process/pack.

If you want any fresher order on a Sunday/Monday or buy locally and pay higher price.

  • Hey Manna.
Any recommendations for a coffee bean that's not so sweet. And would you be able to do 2kg for 60 as well?

    • Sugar and acidity is traded off for body during the time the beans crack in the roasting process. This is where the caramelzation occurs and changes can be made to suit brewing profiles etc.

The darker the roast/longer development time the more sugar is burnt off. An example of this for me personally was when I was testing some surrounding competitive cafes to a friends who had recently opened and we tried 5 different companies coffee blends as a milk and espresso.

One particular coffee to me was undrinkable as an espresso as there seemed to be no sweetness and it was just ashy. The others all actually performed pretty well for both and certainly much better for espresso.

Funnily enough the worst ashy espresso actually performed really well as a milk based coffee. The others did as well but this particular darker roast with apparently no sweetness actually tasted much more chocolately and preferable as a milk based coffee.

I personally prefer some sweetness and acidity and also love to drink espresso. I try to roast to a sweet spot (excuse the pun) that can be enjoyed for both for all types of coffee drinkers.

Roasting too dark can compromise some of the more uniqueness of the coffee and ability to perform well for espresso and other brewing methods so would require an individual small batch roast. Happy to do this and roast exact profile for you if you want and can confirm this is what you meant ie a strong less sweet milk coffee but would need to be from standard website listing/pricings due to the individual roast time requirement.

Naturals and honey process coffees etc often keep more sugars and fruitiness in the coffee as the fruit is fully or semi dried with the bean so you could go for a washed coffee maybe a dark roast Colombian or a blend of Colombia and Brazil for milk based.

      Thanx
      Simon

  • Thanks OP just placed an order

  • uggg always the lucky dip is some nasty combo of beans no one will touch. It is such a waste as southern highland is such a good blend!

Anyway to get a promotion without a lucky dip?

    • +1

not always true. My last order came with a great single origin.

Again, there is a reason its called a lucky dip.

    • @ Likes2rap The lucky dips are to allow us to use coffees often from standard web sales etc and just give us that bit of flexibility. They will always be fresh roasted and can actually be some higher end coffees.

Just depends at the time :) You're welcome to leave a note in Paypal as per preference and we try to help whenever posible but can't guarantee

  • Hi OP,

When is the next deal coming?
Are we able to just order with this link?
I don't mind what combination of beans I get from you guys because they are always great!

  • No bean deals at the moment?
