  • Any Exynos S9 users out there? How has battery life improved since launch?

    • I have the + I wouldn't say anything noticeable. Have there been updates?

      • +1

Some, but nothing reported as having improved battery life.

Supposedly the tuning for the Exynos and the Snapdragon are worlds apart, but I'm not sure how much that applies to real-world usage. I've seen some anecdotal evidence of people with custom ROMs and turning off a lot of background processes and bloatware on both getting triple the screen-on time on the Snapdragon 845 when compared to the Exynos 9810.

I can't imagine that Samsung designed their architecture that poorly without concerns being raised in QA about performance, so I've got to imagine board support and firmware/software tuning. If they did, it'd be grounds for a recall.

        • Could those changes not be done in an update Samsung push to users? Or is that getting into the realm of flashing new software?

        • +1

@knobbs: they'd come in an update, but to this point Samsung haven't acknowledged a problem.

        • @jasswolf: I would LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE battery life updates. Too used to my old Redmi note 3 with 4k battery and custom battery saving ROM on haha

No it hasn't. Battery life is pretty terrible and disappointing for a flagship. I closely followed the Anandtech investigation if the issue and would much prefer the Snapdragon.

The S9 is a dine phone except for the battery. But it was the flagship with the least compromise for me. Interestingly the S8 has better battery than the S9 which is on par with the S7.

      • Unless you're mad for the camera, you might be better off grabbing the OnePlus 6 (or 6t) then.

Basically an S9+ for an S9 price (albeit with a notch). I still think the Exynos kernel, firmware and software will get tweaked though, just before the Note 9 launch at the latest.

I still really love the 3.5mm jack which is one of the reasons I stuck with Samsung. The P20 Pro really tempted me with the excellent camera and battery life but still no 3.5mm :-(

Edit, just saw the OnePlus still has the 3.5mm jack. Interesting!

  • Given the price is significant lower than in AU. Is this samsung s9 anygood compared to normal Aussie Samsung S9 ?
What would be the pros and cons ?

    • Pros would be better battery.

Cons may be any localisation features for Australia. Samsung Pay should work fine though..

  • Gray option is also available at the same price.

  • Any deals for the S9+? Or just get a grey import? Missed the oz stock 20% off at aus_luck :(

  • I've already got an Exynos S9 for a work phone but if this was available in violet for the same price, I would be seriously tempted, mainly because the Snapdragon models still include FM radio support, which i rely on heavily…

    • I realise this deal is done, but I'd check carefully if this model has it - most listings say only US/Canada variants have FM radio, and SM-G9600 is a China/Latin America variant. Also Canada is Exynos IIRC, so you can't tell whether it has radio by SoC alone.
