With dab+ radios, what’s the energy consumption like? Could it last a whole day like the old style radios?

Don’t you hate online shopping that lacks common info that customers want.

I had a Sangean rechargeable DAB and managed to squeeze 3ish hrs out of it. It was about the size of a pack of cigarettes so I didn’t expect all day battery life.

Plus DAB radios have LCD displays and suck in info such as next song, upcoming programs etc. I think this is why battery life isn’t as great as your old school radios that you know, just played radio.

      Hope this helps,

Hardly a deal. I picked up one for $15.20 when Big W had a 20% off sale a while back.

  • Would I be able to use this for a night at Blacktown Drive in cinema? It's a pain having the car on constantly.

    • Does digital radio have a delay (5 seconds or so?) compared to analogue radio that could make this a bad idea?

  • You had me at dual alram

The telescopic antenna looks good. I can probably get the afl via Grandstand on DAB? (Because it's not available on the ABC app).

  • Bought one last year. Battery life seems to last 8 hrs, perhaps more. Cannot complain, under $20, rechargeable, small & lightweight.

  • Circuit board on back of this unit (with micro-USB for power) is a problem with many of the DAB+ radios that use this board. Micro-USB often fails quickly, meaning unit can't be charged & is useless. On Kmart units using this board, I've seen a few dead out of the box, others last around 1 year.

Internals are basically the same as the $9 Kmart & dearer Aldi DAB+ radios. These are rebadged by Dgtech & have been in deals as Lenoxx Portable DAB Digital Radio

So, went and picked one up. Bigger than I expected, but not super heavy. Screen is small but legible and is backlit. Scanned stations pretty quickly on digital - you can then use the prev/next buttons to go through the stations and pick the ten you want to store. For FM it just scans and stops at the first station it finds. You then have to scan again to get to the next. Not a biggie. Sound quality is fairly meh for the size - slightly tinny, no base to speak of, but signal quality (ie dropouts etc) is not bad. I suspect that this could easily have been put into a smaller package simply through using a smaller speaker - I'm slightly tempted to pull it apart and see if I could put it all into a more compact box with a better speaker…..

Minor gotcha - the clock has a physical on/off toggle switch on the back. If you turn it off to save the battery, then the clock resets. Alarms, presets etc are saved but if you are travelling and are in an area that does not have DAB+ available (overseas or in the country) then you will need to manually set the time when you turn it back on. Only other minor comment is that the snooze and power buttons are the same size as every other button so when the alarm goes off, by the time you would have worked out which button to press to make it snooze you'll be wide awake and cursing the thing anyhow. Or you might hit the power button that cancels the alarm, and think you've hit snooze so end up sleeping in.

FWIW DGTEC is distributed here by tempo (http://www.tempo.org/) who distribute other rebadged electronics under the names of Hitachi, Bauhn (Aldi) and Akai. Don't expect to be able to download the manual from anywhere, so might want to scan it before you lose it and forget how to use the buttons…. ;-)
