This lock and lock stuff is great. I remember first seeing it like 15 years ago when my Mum used to watch TVSN (TV shopping network) on Foxtel and they were selling it, Mum bought some but it was pretty expensive from memory compared to your Supermarket offerings.

At these very reasonable Aldi sale prices, I find it's great stuff. We have two of the pantry containers which we use for dog food (in case you're wondering, you can just fit a 12kg bag of supercoat into two containers).

Lock lock is the Shiz! So much better than the containers from Woolies and Coles

  • Not saying they are not safe, but how does one know they are "Absolutely" safe to use with food?

    • +2

      The highest health safety standards.
Long before anybody else were doing it, Lock & Lock containers were BPA free. They have also passed just about every safety standard in the world including the "Quality Certification" (Q Mark), "Hygene and Safety" (HS Mark), USA FDA approved and German SGS approved. This means you can use Lock & Lock containers for all your food products knowing that are completely safe for human use.

      • +1

Government standards aren't absolute though, they do change over time when new evidence becomes available. Even if you do prospective trial there is still the question of how long do you keep going to be really sure. But Kudos to Lock & Lock for complying with all the safety standards, I'll certainly try to get some.

      • BPA is only one category of plastics.
Alternatives? BPS to BPF, etc. Even more dangerous.

    • +1

      Nothing is absolute

    • I don’t think this type of plastic was ever a problem. You need to watch out for the rigid polycarbonate-types of plastic and anything softened to feel rubbery (like apple cables).

  • +2

Totally love Lock and Lock. I use it every day and I have some pieces which are at least 12 years old and they are still going fine.

I usually buy them at 50% off at Harris Scarfe but this is probably cheaper.

I'm a bit iffy with the nested ones as they are all of the weirder smaller sized types compared to the more regular l.8lt rectangular ones I'm used it and I'm not the biggest fan of the round bowls but for $14.99 it is not a big risk.

That 12L container is amazing for storing rice, and the wheels mean you don't have to break your back trying to slide it back in place after refilling it!

  • +1

Oh thank god that 12L will be back again.

Somehow though, I stored rice in it and when I went to scoop some out, there were tiny black flying bugs inside and I quickly knew they would turn into weevils so I threw everything out.

Not saying that this container was the problem. Just wondering if I was unlucky and a bug flew in when I wasn’t watching.

    Will buy another one though

    • Finding containers that seel and stop weevils and pantry moths seems a lot harder then it should.

    • -8

You weren't unlucky, the 12L product is flawed. I wouldn't buy another if I was you.

      • have been using the same since last time last year - going okay

    • +4

Or perhaps the weevils were already in the unopened bag of rice.

      Had that happen before.

    • +1

You can put a garlic inside, and your rice will be fine for a while, in my case 5kG rice lasted about half a year until I refilled it, and garlic will get dry, so remember to replace it when you got a chance.

      • Or water bottle or drink bottle is perfact storage for rice. Weevil-proof.

  • Where are they made?

    • Korean brand from Korea not sure south or north.

      • +3

Must be South, the North would have called it "Locked and Loaded"

  • This is cheaper. Also systema plasticware is half price in Woolies.

    • +5

Kmart one isn't air tight. And the systema plastic also the same. Not the same products

      • Agreed - I checked as well some time back and its not airtight.

    • +4

Sistema is absolutely garbage. Not air/water tight at all.

  • +3

Last time I bought the 12L container, it wasn’t airtight at all. The plastic on the lid at the opening flap can bend slightly and you end up with a gap.

Buy at own risk, make sure it is actually airtight before you grab it.

    • 60 Day satisfaction guarantee

      • +1

Doesn’t negate the fact that there is a design flaw in the product.

      • +2

I got sucked into the hype last year on these 12L containers. Unfortunately they are sold at a cold time of the year when insect activity is reduced. I didn't realise they weren't really air tight until 6-9 months later and a massive pantry moth infestation which meant it was too late for the guarantee. I replaced a lot of well sealed glass containers for which I had no moth problems for at least 5 years they were in use.

Don't buy these if you need to store things like rice our flour that attract moths or need to be airtight.

These are advertised as air tight and as stated by ATangk, these have a design flaw and are not air tight. I'm sad to seer that I was not the only ozbargainer that has the same issue.

        • +1

Since when is 6 to 9 months too late under Aus Consumer Law?

Also Aldi are known for their ease of returns if there is an issue.

        • @WatchNerd:
The comment was in regards to Aldi's 60 Day Satisfaction Guarantee, not the ACL.

        • @Punkboy:

          Ok but you said -

it was too late for the guarantee

Which is incorrect. If you thought the product wasn't as described or had a fault then you can easily return it under Aus Consumer Law within the first 12 months as long as you have proof of purchase.

        • @WatchNerd:
See No Cure's comment re 60 Day satisfaction guarantee above my comment

        • @Punkboy:

Yes I'm aware of their 60 Day Satisfaction Guarantee, I have posted a few Aldi deals & always mention it in the description.

So what I'm suggesting is that it wasn't too late. You could have returned it under Aus Consumer Law.

        • +1

          @WatchNerd:
Recourse of using ACL is missing the point. Three independent early commenters on this thread experienced the same problem to try to alert ozbargainer of the potential hassle of resorting to returns or ACL.
Do you actually have first hand experience of using the product?

  • That 12L container is ideal for storing 3D printer filament.

    • …and Lego and other kids toys.

  • Whatever you do, get a set you can add to. I've been adding Decor, Sistema etc when they go on sale.
