Thanks for sharing. Would love to go to Russia.

Been a few times, it's amazing. And easy to get a train across to St Petersburg overnight too.

Visas are a nightmare. Especially if you want to travel freely on a budget.

        • +1

I used visatorussia.com and backpacked my way around (including 4 of the 'stans). Was definitely on a budget and the hostels were alright - although Murmansk was pretty expensive :/

        • The visa is easy, the only annoyance is the inflexibility in entrance and exit dates. If you put Russia at the start or end of your holiday it's no big hassle.

Thanks for sharing. Russia would love to go to you!

      • Haha thankyou

    So this is one way?

    • Sorry, return. Fixed.

    • One way for the enemy.

Russia comes to you not you go to Russia

  • how many hours journey in total? I remember paying extra for Edihad flights to get 24h trip instead of 30h+ via China airlines…

    • +2

Depends on the day, but 24 one way and 32 return when I looked. Of course, for some of us stopovers are a plus :D

  • and here i am, paying 2000 to get to Almaty in Kazakhstan when could have done something similar and flown from Moscow instead.

    • Almaty's fun though - check out the Green Market for some good snacks ;) Also go up the hill for a great view of the city.

    Mother Russia!!!
    have been recently.
Highly suggest instead of Moscow flying into Siberia direct from Hong kong or Bankkok or even Seoul. S7 Airlines.
Shitty Airlines but…you will end up in a real russia!! Moscow and Saint Petersburg is not Russia. Its Europe, very very much so.

I'd hesitate to recommend booking on air China after my recent experience.

I booked flights to Europe through air China (through their website) because it was hundreds of dollars cheaper and there was a nice little 20 hour layover in Chengdu that we wanted to take advantage of.

We get an email one day half in Chinese half in English saying that the time of our flight has changed. They moved the Sydney to China 48 hours later and kept the China to Europe leg the same so it was literally leaving before we even would leave home. I went to the air china office in Sydney and got put on another flight via Shanghai. We lost our long layover but we were still getting to Europe at the right time so it was no huge loss.

Like 2 weeks later we get another one of these emails saying that our flight has again been moved by 24 hours. Our 5 hour Shanghai layover just got converted into 29 hours. We had already booked all our accommodation, internal travel etc so we didn't want to mess that all up. We ended up just getting a refund and booking with a real airline (for a lot more money mind you, especially as months had passed since our original booking was made).

I'd hate to think how much of an extra faff it would've been if we booked with a third party site too…

I've only used them once myself, KUL to YVR via PEK return, but no problems personally. I guess it's different for everyone.

      Travel insurance

      • I have insurance, but if you read the pds it's quite a limited number of reasons that you'll get anything for.

        • Should have got a better package which covers flight delay and booked itinery

    thanks - awesome deal!

    ACHTUNG! WARNING! ВНИМАНИЕ! #1
October is a mid season and it gets quite cold, wet and grey - same stuff you saw in Red Heat, etc.

P.S must do'sin my opinion: Russian Museum in ST Petersburg; Historic Museum in Moscow; ballet / opera, both in Moscow and St Petersburg (buy quality stuff, don't go cheap)'

    ACHTUNG! WARNING! ВНИМАНИЕ! 警告!#2
AIR CHINA is one of the worst carriers out there.

    Make your choice wisely!

  • WOAAAAH AUNT BETTY! AMBA-LANCE!

  • Spending a week in Sanya, Hainan, China, surrounded by Russians on holiday has cured me of any desire to go to Russia. If they are that grumpy on holiday in a tropical island, wonder what they are like when working!

    • +2

They're efficient, I imagine. Or drunk.

    • very true!! spot On. +++++I am Russian and i know why ahahahahaha

      • I'd like to know why. I'm going to Sanya again and I'd like to get along with them.

        • +1

Just a cultural difference. Not all of us like that , you just have to get know people a little bit better. That's it

    • Moscow would be a bit different, as it is generally a hard life outside big cities/European part

  • +3

I went to Russia last year. God damn.., the girls there, so many 10s

  • If only they had specials in time for the world cup :(

  • Visa is a challenge.

    • I've gone on both a tourist and a business visa, using visatorussia.com, was pretty straightforward. They'll even get you a valid invite.

  • Damn - this is an awesome deal, if it only it was available for the fifa World Cup
