Hmm! I have to go to Canberra in June. How can I work this

  • Is this the lower alcohol 'session' version?

that'd be the Legere which looks like this
      https://www.danmurphys.com.au/media/DM/Product/1600x2000/964…

from the piccy this looks like it's 2.3 standard drinks, which is full strength. actually it'd be stronger then Dan's 4.8% crap (wtf? I hate when they water down beers to dodgey tax - bloody Canberra) .

    • yes… confirmed, expire 09/07/18… challenge… accepted…

  • Booo for saying "less than $40" when it's literally one cent.

Seems like a good deal though. For comparative sake this would be about $66 from Dan Murphy's.

      Well it's literally below $40.

      • If you pay cash you have to pay $40 though.

  • Bargain if Imported - Can anyone confirm if local or imported?

    • Gold trim on the box means that it's the 'local' Australian made product.

      • Think it's UK made. Still different to the Belgium made original.

had a look, says imported, brewed in Belgium

      confirmed, expire 09/07/18

      • Oh damn. Better go grab a case. Easy thanks!

Manufacturers vary, but a lot seem to have a best before of 12 months after bottling.
Beer can never "go off" to an extent it could make you sick (other than a hangover!), but over many years it might lose carbonation or develop unwanted tastes.
This is worse if it is kept in sunlight or other poor storage.

In my opinion, Stella 12 months out of date that has been stored in a cupboard of fridge would be fine, and I wouldn't give it a second thought. 24 months probably the same.
If it was 5 years out of date, I would pour the first one into a glass to see if there was any degradation of the can, and would want to taste it before I took a six pack to a party.

I have a very dark, heavy homebrew that must be going on 10 years old, as I only use a couple of bottles a year when I make a beef pie, and it is still fine for cooking, or drinking if you favour that.

  • Wasn't that long ago it was easy to get these for $40 or less. Pretty rare now.

That was usually the 330ml bottles, though.

Wife beater is what they call this in England!!

    • Wife beater is what I know it from here. (never been to England)

Just picked up a case from Marsden Park Costco for $44 (bloody can tax). Sign above it stated 330mml cans - buts its the 500ml.
Can confirm its the imported 5% stuff, best before 9/7/18 so won't be a problem for us. They had the local brewed 4.8% 330 bottles there for $46 a case..

  • "And then I drank 15 cans of Stella!!!"

  • How much was the slab of furphy?

  • Update - These are still at Costco Marsden Park, now $39.99 (was 43.99 due to our can tax). Best before is a month away so plenty of time to drink, that much time I bought 2 cases.. :-)
