From the same manufacturer as Xiaomi's popular Powerstrip comes a portable car power inverter that's small enough to fit the cup holder. It features an AU/CN/US type plug with 2 USB ports with a maximum output of 5V/2.4A in a single port or 5V/3.1A in both simultaneously.

  • No way it's pure sine wave at this price. No good for running any consumer electronics off this I'd say

    • it’s not hard or expensive to generate a sine wave, it’s why they use ICs to do some of the smart work.

    I've posted against this product.

    Xiaomi have a good name (I have at least six of their products) - IMHO they should have produced a SAFE PSW inverter.
    More expen$ive - but not NASTY :-(

        I'm not intending to be critical of your posting either - I can't claim expertise, having learnt from this discussion. At least two of those posting in the negative [to me] appearing misguided :-(

        The DC to AC illustration (in my ignorance) seems to show a couple of cylindrical CAPACITORS at the front, with heat sink fins above unknown electronics - presumably energetic in view of this heat sinking.
        A 'standard' transformer in the centre?

        PS: I believe many on eBay that claim PSW are actually MSW.
        Even PSW may be a question of degree.

        Xiaomi expected to be at the better end?
        BUT with modest cost - foolproof, with minimum interference remains to be seen?

    • would be compofble to,other inverters in similar price bracket as they all use common ICs and circuitry.

      the 100w out is a bit limiting unless all you are charging is a laptop or other low wattage devices.
      guess it’s low wattage though also due to how much you want to draw from a cigarette lighter socket …. you would be pulling 10 amps at 12v to get 100w output assuming about 80% efficient … and you get heat from resistance of the connections.

      my 300w inverter is designed to clip to the battery and also has banana plug sockets.

    I’m running bestek 300w inverter bought from amazon US for A$70 in my car with engine running for wireless printing and running Small office in a car .

      300w would work for small mobile office …… 100w though is only about enough to run a laptop ……many laptops are 65w output, so need about 85w min input. add a printer and you need more than 100w.
      wireless you can run straight off 12v, we have the huawei dongles as a mobile wifi hot spot.

      Were this XIAOMI 100W inverter to provide 'clean' power I would be more than happy to buy it :-)

      This reply to the first question raised on AMAZON for the 'PSW' BESTEK 300W inverter highlights my concerns:

      "There are numerous oscilloscope "tests" - probably there are some that are almost good - it has to be tested under load :-) or it's meaningless.
      Additionally and importantly are the reports of interference with other car / computer items - bluetooth, wifi, radio, etc - it's no trick to make a sine wave, it's a great serious piece of engineering to make it "cleanly" - without harmful interference to other devices - given the reviews and youtube video's, I'm not rushing out to buy this. The last good inverter I had was a TrippLite FC1800 (since discontinued) - it was sweet (but big, enough to power a vacuum)
      I unfortunately destroyed it by backfeeding mains power into the inverter output (ooo, the smoke!) Oh well… Keep looking. see less

      Without claiming expertise - note TESTING MUST BE UNDER LOAD!

      Also note actual experience from the previous (PRIUS) responder!

      NB: I seem to have learned that any conversion from DC to AC is an approximation - just how close to a 'theoretical' sine wave; with minimal interference.
      [And hopefully, high efficiency, with minimal standby overheads.]

      IIRC my expensive VICTRON may use the heavy toroidal transformer favoured by high end audio.
      Windings around a circular core, minimising interference?

      laptop power supplies are switch mode , designed to run from 110v to 220v and can take “dirty” voltages.

      more an issue with transformered equipment and what it powers e.g radio.

      will run fine if the power supply is the original one supplied with the lap top or one of the branded oem eg liteon seasonic, etc.

    • it’s cheaper and easier to do the 5v usb direct of the 12v …. cheap to drop dc down expensive to turn 12v dc to 220v ac.

      so they wouldn’t waste the 220v circuitry to drop down to 5v again.

      • Yeah, but since there's 220v on board already, I can imagine it may be cheaper to use a 220v USB charger there, because eg. the have heaps of such boards. I dunno.

    So far I can't find any review, saying this inverter is Pure Sine Wave or Modified Sine Wave.

    For those who would like to use it for laptop charging or something else, it would be good to have a read of this before jumping in.

    And if you buy in because of the word "XiaoMi", hey, that's your money.

    But personally, there are cheaper options in Jaycar and super cheap auto (sometimes but not at this moment). If it doesn't work, you can just walk in and return it.

        I am no expert in inverter design. But I have no problem understanding mandarin and electronic components.

        The first part of the website is all about testing the USB port, which I believe it supports QC2.0

        The second part of the website is about testing the AC output. Average voltage around 230VAC, 50Hz. It didn't have a oscilloscope proof to show the output waveform, whether it's Pure Sine Wave or Modified Sine Wave. However, it did mention there are usage of diodes and MOSFET components to smooth out the output waveform. It could be Pure Sine Wave design, but until we see the actual output waveform on the oscilloscope, can't really tell.

  • I dont really see the point. Anything you could run off that amperage probably gets 12v anyway, so just use something that converts the car battery straight to the required voltage.

  • I sort of come to a stage to realise that Xiaomi is a good brand mostly for people who knows about Chinese language . Never had any issues so far with any of the gadgets , but it’s terible not knowing any of the Spoken and written words from the devices and apps .

  • Since this is cheap and it doesn't specify, you can assume its modified sine wave…a good way to damage whatever you connect to it.
