Caol Ila has remained undiscovered by many but has become much-prized by malts lovers across the world. Nestled in a hidden cove near Port Askaig. The isolated distillery built by Hector Henderson in 1846 has a rich heritage of producing fine malt whisky. Caol Ila 12 Year Old - Nose is fresh, herbal and smoky. On the palate, oily, cigar leaves, smoked ham and hickory. The finish is long, peppery, spicy warmth, smoke.

So many good Whisky deals this week…

    • Too many choices between this, Ardbeg, Laphroaig,Talisker - all hovering around for $70-80 between Dan Murphy's and First Choice.

I absolutely loved Ardbeg 10, but I feel like I should try something new at these prices. Any recommendations?

      • If you love Ardbeg, then either the Talisker or Laphroig will be great.
Caol Ila I've only ever had their 2014 Distillers Edition. It was good, but not a blow your head off smokey like Ardbeg or Laphroig. Or even Talisker.

        But I'm really no expert…

      • This is one of my longtime favourites. It's a lovely balance of a little bit smokey and Malty - more like the flavour profile of the lagavulin 16 but smoother.

  • Caol ila was good, but not sure if it was the 12 that i tried

    • If it wasn't a special edition bottling, then my guess is it was the 12. Pretty sure that's all they make.

  • DM's price matched it at 81 on their website. I picked one up! Thanks OP
