  • May be worth updating the post to reflect the "saving" on offer.
Regularly pricing for JPN is $10 per day, capped at $140 for up to 30 days?

    • Thank you for the suggestion!

What network does this runoff? Also is this truly unlimited or are you throttled after a certain amount?

    • +1

We run on softbank and it is truely unlimited and no speed limit after certain usage. Wifipalm always run on 4G.

      Regards,
      Wifipalm

      • What is the base speed…

Many providers in Japan offer unlimited 4G for foreigners but capped at 2-3mbps.

nevermind found it on your site… hardly 4G speeds

"In normal circumstances, the download/upload speeds are roughly 7.2/ 5.76 Mbps."

Meanwhile, locals can get 4G with 100-200mbps directly from the network.

    Ridiculous pricing…It's 2018
Who gonna pay $110 for wifi??

  • +1

Local sim cards are now pretty easy to get.

-This really stands out if you're looking for either 4+ users that never separate (eg a family)
-heavy data user that wants unlimited

I rented one (603 model) for about $50 aud for one month. Only went to japan for 3 weeks. Ends up cheaper if you just rent one month if not going more than a month.

    • I've been eyeing this company for my upcoming trip. They currently have a special going for $30/month.

How did you find the connection in main city compared to in subways and mountains? How much data did you find yourself using? Were you throttled?

Off topic; what general advice do you have for while travelling in Japan? Where did you exchange money?

      Thanks!

  • I personally used a WiFi hotspot service when I was there in early 2017 and couldn’t recommend anything else. Mine was unlimited with no throttling, averaging just under 100mbps whenever I tested it, and cost about $130 for 1 month, with free returns via a postage paid satchel. Given that this was for 2 people, it really worked out to $65, and could easily support a larger group to further dilute the cost.

SIMs would have cost much, much more in order to cover the data that I ultimately used. Having said that, there is convenience involved with purely a SIM as opposed to carrying a modem.

    • Do you remember who you got it from, i am looking at doing similar when i visit later this year

      • Not OP and necroposting but did the exact same thing last year, I shopped around a lot and found that Japan Wireless was the cheapest. Had a great experience with them. However they cost $143 for 28 days and use the same network as this offer, so this would be a better deal.
