Virgin plans are cheaper and more data…

    • +11

      Virgin plans aren't on Telstra.
      Apples and oranges.

      • Virgin plans aren't on Telstra.

Aldi doesn't use the full Telstra network anyway…

Also, last holidays I went to, had much better reception on Virgin/Optus network that Telstra.

        • +3

Telstra still covers most of australia

        • I'm with Aldi mobile and I'm always under the impression that its the same network as Telstra. So what do you mean "FULL" Telstra network??

        • @Homr:

MEDION Australia Pty Ltd. (ABN 58 106 611 330) under the brand name ALDImobile uses part of Telstra’s 4G and 3G mobile network. FAQ

Aldi uses the Telstra Wholesale network which doesn't have the same coverage as the Telstra retail network.

        • @trongy:

so just how Much dos it Cover ?

      • Telstra is doing 25GB BYO for $49/ Month for 12 Months if you don't need international minutes.

    • Only ever used Virgin once, never again -painful is best way to describe the um service.

      • painful is best way to describe the um service.

Have you tried calling Telstra lately and comparing their customer service to Virgin?

        • +3

No need to call everything is running
          smoothly.

          Don't jinx me now JV
          😊

        • @snappy1234:

No need to call everything is running smoothly.

Telstra didn't work for me in FNQ. Could barely get 3G. Optus worked fine.

    • May as well add

Kogan plans are also cheaper with more data (Vodafone Network)

Telstra retail (Telstra + Boost) has more remote coverage than Telstra wholesale (AldiMobile, Woolworths Mobile, Belong…)

    • … and a completely different network.

      • and Aldi don't use the full Telstra network anyway.

        • … and a completely different network.

        • hmmm which parts doesn’t it use ..? …. aldi does 4g and also band 28 on telstra …you get full network, it’s too technically complicated to try and sandbox resellers, you don’t get the shop front or back of house support which is important for some people.

you choose a network optus, voda, telstra
then choose reseller and plan from your preferred network if you have specific coverage issues.

        • @garage sale:
I'm with Aldi, formerly Telstra, and live in a zone with crappy coverage. My own experience is I definitely get less bars at my place with Aldi (but still well usable unlike voda and optus.) There is a difference.

    • +5

Need Tel$tra network reception, doesn't matter if it is wholesale network.
Floptus and Vodafail are no go.

      • you can get maps that show towers and frequencies, and for some people in some locations it’s important.

there is no “ telstra is better than voda than optus” , in some areas they share the same towers and each has their own transceivers in some areas they have their own tower exclusively and there for some people it makes a difference for coverage.

they rent land and rooftops for transceivers so placement is a commercial decision based on coverage and deal they get with property owners.

    • So they cheaper then $15?

  • +1
    • Typical speeds 2-50Mbps

      Lel.

      • speed also depends on handset ….. notice the green on telstra map is 700mhz, hence why people go on about band 28 when handset deals are posted and chinadroids that don’t support it.

    • It's not like you streaming 4k tv

  • +3

Woolworths should be updating their plans next Monday. They're also a Telstra Wholesale reseller.

  • Sim plans are getting very compitative. Plans for International calls are still expensive though.

    • +1

The price in other Asian countries far more competitive where you can get 25GB + 2000 local call/sms on a 545days plan in Hong Kong for A$30.

      • Yeah. I'm in India at the moment and the guys here can't believe how much mobile plans in Australia cost. Here you can get unlimited calls and texts + 60GB a month for around $12-14 AU. The speed isn't too bad either.

  • $20 M Valuepack (Discontinued) now has 2.5GB but is no longer available for sale to new customers

I'm a bit confused as to what's happening with my $20 plan. Will I be forced to change after the 1 May?

  • I may have switched back to Aldi a week ago if I knew the S Plan was going to still have 1.5GB of data after April.

  • Certainly good deal, but currently using wollies $27 ( after 10% off) 5 gig unlimited international calls to 10 countries and obviously locals. Plus 100 cr for other international and data roll over upto 15 gig

    • Hey mate, can you still get that?
On their site there aren't any plans with included international minutes.

  • It's a shame Aldi roaming rates are so extortionate. $1/min to send or receive a call and $0.50/MB in most countries. https://www.aldimobile.com.au/m3/docs/international_roaming_…

  • "Large" is now the second smallest plan.

    • Does Aldi have callconference or atleast call waiting option? i am currently on lebara but their lack of call waiting option is a big drawback.

      • +1

I am with lebara. No issues with call waiting and conference.
