[QLD] Energy Australia Secure Saver Plan - 16.10c FIT, 21.05c Peak (after 28% Usage Discount)

130

I've been searching for a provider that offers a solar feed in tarriff in Queensland better than 11 cents while still offering decent peak rates.

Rate sheet

EnergyAustralia updated its pricing for Qld Energex for this plan as of 19 April 2018 and it seems it has introduced 16.10 cent solar feed in on its Secure Saver plan, and is the only one I am aware of which still retains reasonable peak usage charges (21.05c after discount).

Daily usage charges are quite high at 128.26 cents (i.e. $15/qtr more than the Alinta offering), but this is easily offset by far greater savings on higher feed in for those with high export.

No daily solar meter charge disclosed in any of their documents.

24 month contract, with locked in rates, and a $22 break fee.

  • High supply charges kill this deal.
What is the solar meter charges?

    • 128.26/day per post above. No fee disclosed re solar metering. Daily charge is about 15% above Alinta's offering (i.e. $15/qtr more), but that is more than made up for by the higher FIT for me (5.5 kw system, and I need decent peak rates given our high import).

      • So you paying more as your fitt covers the extra supply charges. So better to be on a lower fitt with lower supply charges

Your generalised statements are not helpful. I’ve done the maths on my usage over the past 6 months. This plan is at least 25% cheaper for me overall than the next best offering (Alinta) even with the higher daily charge.

  • Is this the web page to the plan? https://www.energyaustralia.com.au/home/electricity-and-gas/…

If so, then please note it is expired.

Offer ends 18 April 2018 unless varied or withdrawn earlier.

  • Feed in tariff rates are changing from 1st July 2018. It is going down to 9.9 cent from 11.3 cent. Peak & off-peak FIT will be introduced at the same time.

Do you have a source for this? http://www.qca.org.au/Electricity/Regional-consumers/Solar-Feed-in-Tariffs-(1)/In-Progress/2018-19-Regional-Feed-in-Tariff suggests something might change for regional Queensland, but I cannot find anything for SEQ?

If it's right then locking in the rates under this deal for 24 months might be a very good idea.

  • 24 month contract, with locked in rates, and a $22 break fee.

Does that mean you can leave whenever you like, just pay $22?

The 28% does not apply to daily usage charge, does it?

  • Yep just leave for 22

28% is only to discount usage not the daily supply

  • 16.1c Feed in Tarrif eligible for up to 30kw of solar. (10kw on each phase)

Anyone know a rough price for 30kw in SEQ??

    • You won't get REC after 5kw size so you paying full amount for the rest

    • where are you getting this from? do you mean 30Kw exported or a 30Kw system?

      • This plan apparently applies for systems up to 30kw in size. Good luck getting approval to export more than 5kw (ie not export limited). No idea how much a 30kw system would cost.

  • I called Energy Australia to confirm this increase and they indicated it will apply to existing customers and will be communicated to them on their next bill.

  • How often can you change from Energy providers? and If you have a smart meter from Origin does that mean they would need to install a new meter when you switch? My meter is an Acumen meter.

    • As long as you're not locked into a contract you can change as often as you want. Most providers do not have lock in contracts & the ones that do have small exit fees. Most contracts have a 'benefit period' of 1 or 2 years, but rather than this being a lock-in it the period of time which you're eligible for the specified discount. At the end of the time they'd roll you off the discount, not say anything and just enjoy the $$$s.

The meters are vendor-agnostic. Even if Origin put it in, it would have actually been on behalf of Energex that did that (if you're in the Energex region), so you don't need a new meter to swap. All meter reading are done by Energex (in the Energex region) and Origin/Atlinta/Energy Australia are just resellers of the electricity.

  • Hi all,

Just note this plan has a clause that you wont get the 28% discount if the account is in credit

”27. You are not entitled to a pay by the due date discount under your Contract if your account is in credit due to the value of the electricity you generate from your Eligible Generator.”
