Be nice now. Yes, I know it's exorbitant, yes, I know it irradiates your genitals, yes, I know Max-Q gimps the 1080, but man. Just look at it. Carry it. Caress it lightly and place it next to your pillow when you sleep.

Where was I? Oh, yes, the famed Zephyrus (1080 version) is now a tad bit more easier to swallow and is being offered at 20% off by Asus direct with code. If you have a spare $4k lying around, just swallow the red pill and see how deep this rabbit hole goes.

8gig ram. $4000… I'd be expecting 16 or 32 gig ram for that sort of coin…

sorry, bad title. go sit in the corner.

      It's 16GB+512GB.

      • +1

Lol for 4k it better come with some of them Duke Nukem babes :p

      I'd be expecting 16 or 32 gig

Both pointless for most users including gamers.

      • Chances are if your into gaming at the level to buy a 4k laptop your recording editing ect.

        • -1

No, chances are you're just dumb.

        • @StoneSin: lol I've been penalty boxed for less then that comment…

But chances are you have low self esteem if you need to belittle others on the internet to feed your ego. I pity you.

        • @Slippery Fish: So have I.

Nope. Just right. I'm not belittling anyone.

I feel sorry for anyone that buys a laptop like this.

    • Why? I remember saving up $3k from part time work while studying for my first '386 back in the early 90s. This is probably orders of magnitude more powerful and way cheaper once you take wage growth into account.
Of course, if you don't need this much grunt, then go for something cheaper that better suits your needs.

      • -1

Because it's the worst purchase you could get in this category.

This is probably orders of magnitude more powerful and way cheaper once you take wage growth into account.

        ???

I would have walked in 1805, but I still wouldn't have bought a walking stick that was a poor purchase.

        Your logic is irrelevant here.

Of course, if you don't need this much grunt, then go for something cheaper that better suits your needs.

It's not about what one needs

  • This is a rip, might as well go metabox

    • +3

Sure, you can probably get a Prime-X Hexa core for around the same price and specs all-in, BUT that mf'er weighs 4.3kg. It's ok if you want a desktop replacement that goes nowhere, but this svelte 2.24kg is a proper laptop and gaming PC in one.

I'm not trying to convince you guys to go for this and I'm sure the target for this is limited, so by all means, go for the Metabox.

      • I say MSI GS63VR 7RG. Downgrade to a 1070 but save 1k and weight is better. Just UV to avoid any heat issues, many happy campers after doing.

  • I choose i7-8750H 8th gen

What's the point in buying a laptop for such a ludicrous amount of money when it's going to be obsolete and non-upgradeable in a couple years? I received a gaming laptop through work (professional development fund) 3 years ago that is now wholly obsolete (but $1800 at the time) with an integrated 860m GPU that can barely handle anything new. Worth it? Not really, but thankfully, I didn't pay for it.

good as a production laptop though

    • +3

I understand where you are coming from but if you buy techology today, it will be obselete tomorrow.

I guess I could argue the point that I would buy what suits my needs today, with the budget I have.
If work bought you that laptop 3 years ago, is it really obselete for what you need to do on it? Did your use outgrow the specs?

Take the laptop in the OP, full HD screen paired with a GTX 1080, you are good for 5 years with that. Yes there will be far better specs in 5 years but it will still be able to run games in 1080p (on high settings instead of very high maybe?).

    • There’s no reason why it should be obsolete after 3 years. If it was adequate 3 years ago it should be adequate now. Plenty of computers from more than that are still adequate.

not sure why the neg comments on this 2.24kg GTX1080 laptop @ $4k

you get shit spec. with MBP at that price

    • You can buy magic seeds costing $500… that's the same price as a Juicero, clearly the magic seeds are worth it!

      • -1

go enjoy your integrated graphics then

  • I'm still using an M6500 and it turned 8 the other day.

Not fantastic for gaming but the Quadro never was.

Always worth paying a little extra for build quality, is the lesson here.

  • pretty sure this comes with 120hz screen

i got the same laptop with a 1070 but for way cheaper than this price.

  • The GM501 looks similar, has a 6 core 8th gen i7 and is cheaper. But this is a good deal if for some reason you prefer the older model.

A laptop this heavy will end up being a desktop. Better off buying a full tower desktop or a two in one with thunderbolt3 so that you can run a eGPU

    • This would only be half a kilo heavier than a 15" 2-in-1 laptop. It's easily portable at this weight.
