Was just about to post this deal too.

Almost bought it the other day with original post. Got an alert from my eBay app about price drop and jumped on this!

Now I just need the BES920 to come on sale and my life will be complete!

*OP you should add free click and collect.

    • Yep, got the alert and jumped on it asap for fear of OOS.

Next step - straight onto OzB for the OzB cred

      *Done

Yeah, it is like putting your oxygen mask on in an airplane - make sure yours is secured first before assisting others.

    • Now I just need the BES920

Get a Silvia and you'll be better than complete :)
      https://www.casaespresso.com.au/rancilio-silvia-v5.html

      • Wow. It's one heck of a good looking machine…

        • Don’t judge a book by its cover. ;)

        • @Stix: Don't know never get to look inside shitty looking books.

        • @doodo477: Fair enough. Truth be told, neither do I. :)

      • +1

I’d rather not wait 45 minutes for my coffee.

        http://coffeegeek.com/forums/espresso/machines/444945

It’s not a very good machine if you want to just make one whimsically without having to leave it in constantly.

        • Hmm, so that's why my Silvia seems to do better shots after being on for a while. :)

        • All boiler machines need time to warm up, the Breville will be the same. If you don't want to wait get a thermoblock.

45 minutes is too long, 10 minutes is all it needs.

You can still make coffee from the machine after about 3 minutes, it just won't be as good.

      • +3

Silvia are a nice machine but only single boiler - so you can't extract and froth at the same time. Also many people end up PIDing their machines for better thermal control - Breville actually has very good thermal control (no need for a 3rd party PID) as you can set the brew temperature out of the box. Silvia will probably last longer and be easier to repair in the long term though.

        • easier to repair in the long term

Agreed, I'm no handyman but I was able to replace the water pump in my Silvia.

        • For domestic use I have never found myself needing a dual boiler and I make several coffees at a time.

Make your shots first and then do the milk.
If your shots can't survive 2-3 minutes without degrading you are not making good shots…

  • Brilliant grinder I have had for a couple of years. Even some shops run these.

  • Thanks bought to compliment the delonghi coffee maker

    • me too :-) next hunt will be coffee beans..

        So close to brewing coffee!

      • Aldi beans 1kg for 11.50 offer best value in the opinion of many.

        • Do they taste any good?

        • +1

I'd like to know when their beans were roasted and packed. Can't imagine they are fresh, nor good quality. Let alone ethical.

There's some things we shouldn't be skimping on.

        • Tried one packet from Aldi, did not like the smell that comes out of the bag, made a cup of coffee, the taste was not to my liking and I had to return the packet straight away.

        • unfortunately anything on the supermarket shelves can't be considered fresh as roasted beans have a 3 week window for freshness.

if you are investing in a good grinder like this, I recommend taking the next step and putting good beans into it as well to get the best brew! otherwise I think you're 'wasting' the grinder investment IMHO.

having said that, if Adli beans taste ok for you then that's fine! Everyone has their preferences.

        • @iggs:

Yeah, my dad started roasting his own beans and says every store bought one tastes like crap to him now haha. He's made himself a snob. I spose it's one of those things though.. if you use supermarket coffee and never freshly roasted you don't really know what you're missing out on so it still seems good.

I still don't mind my instant Moccona coffee in the mornings haha.

        • @tbgoose:

I think they are roasted in Melbourne and have the date on the package.

        • +1 for Aldi beans (medium roast)

        • @spaceflight: The packet does say roasted in Melbourne but I couldn't find a date on it.

      • +1

I have tried a few coffee beans brands until I find the one which I think in perfect: The Harris Colombian, the taste, the flavour and aroma are all divine. Now with those beans and my Delonghi coffee machine, when I wake up in the morning I really look forward to my nice cup of cappuccino.

        • Next one to try. Thanks @Bluering48

        • +1 for the Harris Colombian. Pretty good for supermarket beans and despite the low price ($16/kg at Coles IIRC). I usually buy green beans and roast myself, but this is one of the more drinkable supermarket beans when they're fresh. Surprising amount of fruity note, worth a try for that alone.

Also a big +1 for this grinder, had mine for about a year with about 60g/day minimum usage and it's been fantastic. Good usable range from French press to Espresso.

        • @Jackal: Did a double take, didn't remember replying with that comment.

      • +1

I think the best value for fresh roasted beans are the Manna Beans deals which get posted regularly https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/372036

I get the 2 x 480g bag deal and split with a friend as I can't finish 1 kg by myself quick enough. (beans have an optimum freshness up to roughly 3 weeks from roasting. they are still drinkable after but are considering stale and start to lose flavour)

it's a good way to try different blends/single origins and the quality has been good!

      • +1

Bay Beans, they put deals on here from time to time. I get the Espresso Master, back your grind off a little & they're the bomb!

  • Highly recommend this grinder. I bought last time it was on sale and it has vastly improved my mornings.

  • Ordered. Thanks OP

  • Cheers OP got one!

  • I went with a Baratza Encore yesterday but off eBay, still this is a good price

  • Perfect timing after scoring the Delonghi coffee machine from Amazon deal.

  • Does this work with cashrewards as well?

  • Thanks OP!! Cancelled my amazon order from the other day and bought this one ( which will arrive sooner ) Yipeeee

  • Is this a good grinder? We have a cheaper breville one that could never grind fine enough. Been waiting to find one with good reviews. Would this be recommended for fine coffee for espresso? None seem to grind fine enough in reviews!

    • We received ours with the BES920 machine. We've purchased many types of beans (usually freshly roasted from cafe's but also from woolies) and have never been able to grind lower (finer) than the '10' setting without choking up the coffee machine (adjusting grind time to suit obviously). Not sure if that helps but it would suggest to me that it can grind way finer than our machine can handle at least.

  • Its back in stock, ebay sent me an notification saying hurry, and there was 7 left.

  • It's back in stock again, just grabbed one.

Do people think the BES920 is ever likely to be available individually for <$800 again?
I've been kicking myself for missing out on these when they were frequently on offer last year, and now they only ever seem to have it available in "the dynamic duo" package which seldom comes below $1249.

    • Do yourself a favour & buy an Expobar (or any other 'decent' brand for that matter!). Mine is around 20 years old & has only ever had a pump in it. A mate went through 3 Breville's in the same time, he always had one spare, one broken & one working!

    • Same mate… Same

  • Thanks. Just bought the last one …. now out of stock again.

  • I am a bit of a coffee snob and got this grinder for $159.20 back in Jan when it was in sale.
I use it for filtered coffee and I cannot complain about the consistency for various types of beans. I cannot speak for the very fine espresso grinds but I am happy with my purchase.

  • It's back in stock again. The click and collect option is not available in most places so $9 post is added. Bit of an impulse buy for me but it seems to have lots of good reviews. If it doesn't grind fine enough I hope I'll be able to take it back or sell it.

  • Crap! Missed out. They are going quick! Hopefully a better deal is on the way for these!

  • +1

Has anyone had theirs shipped? Still haven't received shipping notification. What a slow process if they really haven't sent it still!

    • I was one of the last to get the deal and ebay is estimating Wed, 16 May - Thu, 17 May as the ship date! I am happy to wait to get the deal but it is disappointing as a local store should be able to have an item sent within a week. It seems they are selling stock they don't have. I appreciate they probably let some people make use of the deal they shouldn't have. 2.5 weeks from a purchase is a long time to wait. Unfortunately, no stores have stock either so pickup was not an option.

    • Yes, mine was shipped on monday ETA friday

  • Still no pickup notification.

    • I messaged them and got this reply.
