PULL5

This is the cheapest deal I have seen for the newly released LG 8 Series 2018 C8 with the new Alpha 9 Processor. Everywhere else the C8 55" is $3400-$4000.

Benefits of the 2018 model over the 2017 B7/C7 Series-

The new features are
1) Alpha 9 Processor
2) Black Frame Insertion
3) Static Logo dimming
4) Calman Autocal calibration.
5) Expanded art gallery
6) Intelligent home interface

  • 4k/120 fps support as well, but no means to deliver it aside from a storage/streaming source.

These opening prices are absolutely ridiculous considering the manufacturing ramp-up LG have undergone. I guess we're waiting for that extra supply to kick in?

  • I know OLEDS can be expensive… But paying over 3K for a 55 inch… Damn… I'll stick with my cheapo 65 inch Bauhn tv set from Aldi.. To me the picture is great.. I couldn't justify spending this much on a TV when its only 55 inch…

    • c7 was sub-2k

      • B7 was also around $1600

      • C7 never got to below $2000 afaik. Only the B7 I believe and that was $1888.

        • B7 was $1699 Boxing day specials..

        • @solidussnake:

I stand corrected. Forgot about the GoodGuys/Ebay deal on the B7.

    • Launch prices

Paying $120K for Mercedes with just 4 wheels is ridiculous. I’ll stick with my Hyundai.

  • worth the $1k premium over c7 on lowest?

Not unless you really really want the black frame insertion and voice control features according to rtings

Or if you do you could wait 7 months and get it for the same price as the B7 is now.

      • I don't believe the C8 will get to the same price as the B7 is now. Reason- the B8 will only have the Alpha 7 Processor, whereas the C8 has the Alpha 9 Processor so it is being priced higher. YMMV.

It may not. But it will be a lot cheaper than it is now.

Honestly? Wait for the C9, and buy it after September 2019. Before everybody piles on, let me explain:

      • The C8 is a 4k/120Hz HDR panel that supports 120 fps (HFR)
      • The C8 has no means to deliver this beyond streaming/file sources due to a lack of HDMI 2.1 support
      • It's unlikely this will come through a firmware update due to HDMI bandwidth requirements
      • A firmware update for variable refresh rate (VRR) may appear however

Basically you've got very limited means to push 4k/120fps (40+ MBit) content, so unless you desperately want black frame insertion, it's best to wait another year so the 120Hz panel can meet more of its use cases.

If it turns out LG has prepped the internals of this set to provide 48 Gbps HDMI support, then by all means purchase this unit.

  • The addition of BFI is great but there are other models that offer it for much less, albeit not necessarily OLED.

  • RetraVsion- $2892 for the C8. May be able to price match and HN/JB/GG etc.
