510

Missed the $55 Kogan deal the other day- this is $7 cheaper and from what i've heard ShopMonk can be fast with delivery.

Is a grey import the same as the Kogan deal - read some of the comments over there to learn a bit more about the differences between this and local stock

All 3 colours are available

Enjoy!

Thanks, I need a new $48 kitchen timer.

    • lol

    • +2

Hey - that's what I use mine for! But at least it was "free" with my phone plan.

    • It's not just a kitchen timer. It's a kitchen timer with a microphone and cloud connection!

  • does this works as bluetooth speaker ? or chromecast youtube audio ?

    • Just taking this from the description - maybe someone who owns one will have more info

I own x5 of these & one Google Home (non-mini version) and I can certainly confirm that It works as a Bluetooth speaker.

In fact, it works as both Bluetooth Receiver & Transmitter. In other words, it can be used as a Bluetooth speaker & it can also cast audio to another Bluetooth enabled speaker system.

      • What's the sound quality like for home & mini?
Compare with UE boom2 & likes

        • +2

Have the mini, sound quality is only good for voice. For music, it's harsh and has no bass.

        • +1

Have the mini, sound quality for voice is great - good clarity. Fine for background music but UE boom will sound much better.

        • +1

          Don't have a UE Boom 2 but I have a UE Megaboom.

          UE MegaBoom Audio quality: 8/10

Google home mini Audio quality: 2/10

      • hi how you manage to cast to other Bluetooth speakers?
        using audio cast? TIA

        • +1

how you manage to cast to other Bluetooth speakers?

"Hey Google, how you manage to cast to other Bluetooth speakers?"

        • My firmware version doesn't have it yet but some people around the world do have it.

        • @phosphoresce: it is not firmware. You need to enable "program previewe" and restart the google home. Then go to "choose default speaker" to pair

    • yes you can stream music, youtube from your phone to google home/mini, you can also hook up any Bluetooth speaker to google home/mini as well.

    does it work with ios?
ive recently fallen in love with siri

    • +8

that *hore told me i was the only one

    • +9

I’m an iPhone user & can confirm that it worls google home.

If you are impressed with Siri, you haven’t tried Google Assistant yet. Because Siri is crap compare to Google Assistant.

      • agree i had a Nexus before now using IPX

      • Siri is the most awful assistant I've used, even Microsoft's is better.

I note that the speed of a device and network greatly affects the ability of any voice-assistant to work well.

      • I’m a former iPhone user (now with windows phone) & can confirm that…yes siri is a *hore . However Cortana is absolutely amazing:)

        • Wow, one of the 0.1%, a rare beast indeed!

        • @chickenface: Yes, I have a leather phone case embossed with 0.1% patch

      • Agree but have noted that Siri seems to be improving rapidly. Must have got some development $$ on the back of the Apple speaker.

      • +3

I can confirm Google assistant is way ahead of Siri

    • Yes works with Android and IOS

Have 5 of these and endless issues with them. Disappear from the apps, disappears from groups, shows as general cast devices (rather than Homes), will play Spotify to a group from a single device, and the music plays on others and not that one. Would love them if it just worked reliably (and support Outlook.com calendars :( ). But price looks good ;)

    • +4

I have x6 in total & they all work flawlessly. Never ever had any of the issues you mentioned. May be it’s your router/internet.

      • It's weird. I have two access points, which they're divided between. The Amazon Echo doesn't drop a beat (just one), but these appear and disappear, and when they appear they often appear like a generic cast-receiver, instead of an actual Home. Internet and wifi is pretty reliable for everything else, just at my witts end and thinking of going Amazon completely if it weren't for lack of Netflix support and re-buying the devices.

        • May be two different access points causing some problems for them to work in a group. I have only one access point & they sll connected to same wifi network & like I mentioned earlier, never ever had any drama with them. I love them.

        • Ate both access points using the same wireless network name?

        • @spaceflight: Yep same name and password. Even the devices that are too far from the second point have issues. Will get around to a full troubleshooting at some point but even their appearing as general cast devices is odd, as it means they have network of some description.

      • I have 7 of these and they even drive the kids to school.

        • +2

I have 43 of these paired, 1 for general use, then the others with their task set to answering The answer to life, the universe and everything

    • I would say it's your access points probably causing this issue, I know mesh devices it works flawlessly.

  • +5

    Thanks, just bought a couple.

Also Google just updated the Mini firmware to allow pairing with external Bluetooth speakers. So no need to buy larger Google Home if you want better sound.

    • +1

Requiring chromecast audio to connect with other BT devices was my only issue with this, thanks for the info, explains all the above comments I read going to question

Good price OP, would totally buy if I was ready to commit to a smart speaker system.

  • Just bought one thanks Op great price, I bought a 2nd hand one on ebay for same few weeks ago.

  • Hi. Good price. Btw Is the power plug Australian or overseas version?

Bought two yesterday for my Dad, he got the full Google Home for his birthday and loves it so much he carries it around the house so he can use it, just waiting for him to drop it so figured will get him some minis to put around the house!

  • +1

Oh what tricks do you need to do to get a direct import model working?

    • +1

      None.

    • I read through the comments in previous kogan deal to work it out. Credit to user 'MorriJ' whp posted comment in other thread which explains very well. "On the hardware side, its region is US-EN and initial language is EN-US. When you power on, its in a yank accent, when you pair with your mobile / setup it switches to language EN-AU and then further restricts the feature sets to the AU models.

Physically, the same, except power supply. Software wise, same firmwares - picks you local language and sets features based on that." .
So basically when you set it up, it knows your in Australia and adjusts accordingly to suit :)

  • Thanks Op, Have two and accept that Google is gathering usage data. Have had occasional dropouts but, no big problems. They work pretty well with Chromecast. Yes sound is what you'd expect from a device that size, ok for very casual listening but, not for anything else. Have one 'smart' light from Amazon attached as well, it didn't change my life as much as the advertising lead me to believe but it is handy. Thinking about a smart lock for one of the doors too but, price is high?

      • Thank you

Weren't these ~$80 for two around Xmas time? I'd probably wait for that pricing to return (unless I'm misremembering)

    • The echo dots were and I'm pretty sure these were also 2 for $79, should be back for black friday or Xmas/boxing day.

  • +1

As a consolation prize you could always get (maybe split buy) the dual pack at Aldi tomorrow. $109 for two. Just take your boxing gloves along and you will also get a free round of granny MMA too!

  • from what i've heard ShopMonk can be fast with delivery.

Not sure where you heard that. I ordered a Xiaomi Mi A1 phone almost three weeks ago and it's yet to ship.

  • +2

Seeing as this is sold out - you could also go the Kogan 3 for $149 and use a $50 Kogan voucher off eBay ($12.50 seems to be the cheapest at the moment) So total would be $149+$12.50-$50= $111.50 Delivered - You could also go the $10 Referall credit making it $101.50 for 3 Google minis or $33.83 Each

    • Great advice. Never bought a voucher off ebay before but got one for $11 with $10 new account referral link aswell. Actual kogan price was $159 with free delivery plus the $11 ebay voucher, minus the $60 of vouchers - total cost $110 for 3 delivered. Thanks

      • Cheeky buggers had them for $149 yesterday - glad it still worked out nice and cheap for you ;)

  • I have a white one for sale if anyones interested, Ebay buyer pulled out. $40.

  • +1

They're not sold out, I just got the red one. Never used or even heard of Shopmonk until I saw this post. Hope this goes well.

Just purchased a chalk one, thanks OP!

  • Does anyone know if 1 of these works well as a speakerphone for calls ? ie. I have a samsung s7, would there be any improvement in call quality for myself, and also the person on other end of call ?
I know sometimes speakerphones can come out with a kind of an echo for the person on other end of call.

    • +1

At this point in time the AU version of google home does not support phone calling or messaging its only available in the US, UK and Canada https://support.google.com/googlehome/answer/7363847?co=GENI…

      • Thanks. I did read something about being able to make call free to fixed lines in some countries. And that link you have there mentions using Google voice credits for calls.
I have unlimited calls with my mobile phone, so I was hoping to just use it to use my sim-cards free calling, similar to connecting my cars gps through Mobile phone and getting it to make calls with mobile phone, but using Google home mini as speaker/microphone.

    • +1

They support Bluetooth but I think only to connect a speaker.

If you want something for calls I would look at these which are designed for calls to have echo cancellation.

  • Thanks OP, just bought a coral one.

Looks like I need to wait…

    • Received exactly the same email from them, can't believe it takes so long for them to send out - I ordered on 17/4

Will try to avoid buying from Shopmonk next time.

      • Still not arriving. Can't believe it takes me one month to get this. Probably won't buy from Shopmonk next time.

    • I ordered (coral) on 17/4 and its been 20 days.. still progressing…

    • If this order hasn't moved after 21 days I'm logging a PayPal dispute.

      Unhappy.

      • I sent an email today morning and got a call from customer care today noon.
The order will dispatch today and share the tracking ID tonight. Hoping

  • Finally got tacking id on Monday evening. But unable to track the shipment in both DHL and Australia Post website.

    • Same boat.

So could mean DHL have not yet picked up the item or we are receiving questionable tracking numbers.

I would have thought that 24 / 48 hours was more than enough time to pickup items and for systems to update tracking numbers.
