For a limited period, 12/04/2018 to 3/05/2018, UNiDAYS is having 20% off discount (usually only 15%) for full priced Dell and Alienware products. (Yup, need verified UNiDAYS account, or if you know anyone who's a student or someone that can give you a code)

https://www.myunidays.com/AU/en-AU/partners/dell/view/online , terms and conditions:

Discount is only available to verified UNiDAYS students only.
Discount applies to Dell and Alienware products only. No minimum order value. Discount cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer.

Edit (15/04): title edited to emphasise 20% discount on full price applies to other models also, not only on the Inspiron 15 5575.
EDIT (16/04): As per comments below, Alienware only gets 15% off (https://www.myunidays.com/AU/en-AU/partners/alienware/view/o…)
Likely UNiDAYS has made a mistake in the conditions, the 20% off only applies to the Inspiron and XPS range.

Now, about the new Inspiron 15 5575 with Ryzen Mobile.
Adding the unit into cart it actually gave me a price of $998.98, after 20% UNiDAYS discount of $199.80,
it gives a Total Price of $799.18.

Edit: Dell AU is probably having a new website design, not all image seems to be loading. Use Dell NZ's page to see what the laptop actually looks like lol:

It is a mid-range machine with solid processing power and good potential, for those who are after a 15" FHD device without the need of high portability, and light graphics need.

Before one dreads about its 5400rpm HDD, according to its spec and service manual, it has got a M.2 slot (PCIe enabled). So one may buy a small capacity SSD (quite several options with current eBay sales) to use as a boot drive. It also has two SO-DIMM slots for dual channel memory support, which means the APU Vega graphics potentials won't be killed.

An extra note for code users, currently the UNiDAYS codes are single use only, so after a code is used, you need to go back onto UNiDAYS to generate and get issued a new one.

This is a single use code for your use only. Get a new code each time you shop with Dell.

No restrictions mentioned on how many codes you may generate.

I can provide a code if someone needs. Remember to use cashrewards and if for some reason you don't want to, I'll take the cashback :P

    • Can you please send me a code?

    • Hey mate, any chance you can do me a solid with a code?
      *Please and thanks included

      • I have one ready to go, but you need to enable private messages.

        • Thanks, I have enabled PMs, not sure why it was deactivated

  • Does this apply to any item on their webstore? For example the XPS 15 laptops are all on special - does the discount apply to the special price? Don't have a unidays logon so can't check.

It applies to any DELL and Alienware branded computers, so yes including XPS, AS LONG AS you purchase it via "For Home" (not For Work).

The discount calculates from the full item price, including if you use it on an already discounted model.

E.g. Laptop on sale at $750, but full price is $1000, then using the code will give you $800, which without code is better.
However, if Laptop on sale at $850, but full price at $1000, then using the code to get $800 is better than the sale price.

      • Great, thanks for the info. Pretty much matches the eBay 20% off pricing, except the whole catalogue is available.

  • Now that's some incredible bang-for-buck.

For those looking for a comparison with Intel, this is supposed to perform around the same as an i5-8250U or i5-8350U (before you factor in software optimisations).

The Vega 8 is better than Intel's iGPU solution, but it comes at the cost overclocking potential and basically performs similar to the weaker nVidia MX150 (i.e. not the GT 1030-comparable one).

    • Which 1030? I believe there's now a weaker variant of the 1030 out in the wild, also how does this compare to the mi notebooks? I know they're mx150, are they pretty much on par but with a better build quality albiet with lack of warranty options.

In terms of the Vega iGPU performance, it is slightly (~9-15% or other % depending on comparison source) slower than the full speed MX150 (based on GT1030), better than the previous gen 940MX (now rebadged as MX130). I haven't seen direct comparison against the slower variant of MX150 (which was ~15-25%? Slower , from memory, than full speed MX150 considering throttling as well). So it is very impressive performance from the iGPU vs dGPU point of view.

Mi's 15" is the Pro notebook, which is aluminium constructions, build quality would be better than the Inspiron's plastic build (although for the listed price point, most available laptops are plastic). Warranty support I'd speculate would be the average typical fair of consumer level Dell.

The original one, pretty much as zrmx has pointed out. So this is about 15% slower than the desktop GT 1030, which limits its ability as a 1080p gaming option.

Very impressive for an iGPU, but not as impressive as the Vega 11, or the Vega M GL and GH, which compare to the GT 1030, the GTX 1050ti Max-Q and the GTX 1060 Max-Q respectively.

  • Anyone have a code please?

      Happy shopping =)

I just provided one for another ozbargainer, I believe I have a cooldown time, I can provide one if you dont get one by the time my cooldown ends

Cooldown time is 1 hour, it's late, I didn't get much sleep and I just completed an assignment, please remind me in the morning.

Here's a code if you need it:
    P$KHVS027JPCJ2

  • Anyone have a code please?

    • Actually does anyone have the Alienware 15% off code?

      • The code actually applies to Alienware products also, and it's 20% off full price instead of 15%.

However, due to Dell eBay has got 20% going on as well, check its eBay site to see if there is an item with same config and if cheaper.

(and you seem to have a new account/Message not enabled, sorry, can't message you codes)

        • Thanks for the reply. I tried the above code against an Alienware order and it said it wasn't valid (however it did work for an Inspiron laptop in the basket). That's what makes me think it isn't actually working for AW :)

        • @merkdown:

Hmm, you are right, I just tried my code as well and not working =S (even though it says includes AW)
I wonder if contacting Dell may make it work…

  • 1TB 5400 rpm Hard Drive

I still cannot understand why 5400 hasn't been phased out and at least superseded by 7200rpms …

    • +1

They probably have a energy consumption efficiency and cost advantage…
