  • 1tb nvme? Wow.

    • ^^what he said. 1TB SSD? really??

All it's missing is a dedicated video card~~

      • I assumed that since it's a 4K screen, the performance would be bad, but reading up, apparently this CPU can crank through 4K with low power utilisation (under 1 watt). The U in i7-7500U means ultra-low power utilisation, so it's not practical in a gaming laptop.

  • Looks cheap but dual core CPU?

    • It's a ULV processor…

      • Whats that?

        • +1

CPUs made for low power usage like netbooks, tablets or super portable laptops. Anything with a U at the end will run on 2 physical cores.

        • +1
        • @krisspy: ah yes.

The new i7 8550U has a quad core I think. Of course that will add quite alot of $$ to it.

        • @Circly:

          The i5 is also quad-core.

        • @xuqi: well how bout that… Would make tablets more interesting now

        • @krisspy:

The i5 8350U offers ~ same performance as the desktop i7 2600K (stock clock) chip :)

        • @xuqi: No it certainly does not do that because of a myriad of throttling options such as time at X speed, sensor temps, battery level. Up to device manufacturer on how ti use the throttling options so mobile devices have wildly varying performance.

There is usually no ways to bypass throttling although there are examples such as aiming a fan at Surface pro chassis. Although naturally bypassing throttling means much less battery time.

  • is this the same model as the one posted at JB? There is no pen included with the Grays listing right?

    • specs match same model, no pen mentioned on graysonline add but may still be in the box, if not can buy one for $55

      • +1

Thanks for the post and reply! Do you know if this is the 8th generation or 7th generation i7?

      • Do you know if this pen functions the same as the one included normally? Your link doesn't list the Yoga 720 in its compatibility.

Whereas the $99 Lenovo Active Pen appears to come with the 7th gen models.

And the $149 Lenovo Active Pen 2 appears to come with the 8th gen models.

I assumed my best option would be to get the Active Pen 2 from Amazon US for $50.14USD (~65AUD) delivered?

        • I've seen Yoga 720 8th gen advertised with Active pen 1 and 2. Should work, I think all Lenovo's with pen support use similar Wacom digitizer.
I have this laptop with Active Pen 2 and works well. Surprisingly the pen doesn't have a clip though unlike every other stylus on the market. So easy to lose..

    • The pens usually hide in the case, slides into the keyboard to charge. I would assume this comes with one. Else youd have a gaping hole where the pen lives.

  • The SSD already makes up half the value of the computer!

  • could I get extended warranty from them?

    • ACL cover you. No need for extended warranty.

I would advise against purchasing this. I have this same model and the fans are obnoxiously loud and are on constantly!

Possibly lots of people returned them that's why there's plenty of refurbs.

    BEWARE!

    • just purchased one before saw your commnent.

      • If you can live with the noise it's a good laptop. SSD is incredibly fast and the screen is very good.

        • -2

you neg the deal for a bit of fan noise really

    • +2

Have you checked if you have a bios update available to change from performance to quiet mode?

      Turn Laptop off
Left to the headphone jack is a small pin hole.
Press the pin hole and it will show you 4 options. Click BIOS
Under the BIOS - select BIOS thermal temperature mode to " Quiet"
      Press F10 (save and exit)

      • Yep. Fans still running loud.

  • +2

I have this bought it from JBhifi. It's fantastic. Nice & snappy and 1tb hdd is insane.
It is missing a dedicated graphics but the intel uhd620 honestly runs small games just fine. I can play LoL and Rocket League. Also there's the ability to hook it up to an external gpu unit and run everything through the usb-c port now too so in my mind it's great value

  • +1

I see this one in the same deal does have the 8th Gen Quad Core Chip.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Lenovo-Yoga-720-13-3-inch-FHD-To…

It's only a FHD screen but that would help battery life and probably decent on a 13.3", 256 SSD.

    Colour: Silver
    Intel Core i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz, 4 Core(s)
    8GB RAM
    256GB SSD
    13.3-inch FHD Screen, Touchscreen Enabled
    Intel, HD Graphics
    Intel, HD Audio
    Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
    Webcam
    USB Port (1), USB Type-C Port (1)
    Windows 10 Home
    Accessories Included: AC Adapter

    • Cheaper as well. Shame it's only 16gb and 256gb ram.

      • 8GB

        • Yes sorry I meant 8gb

  • Damn sold out

Painful return process with these guys. Still waiting for my refund for my faulty TV

Wouldn't recommend Grays. Purchased a "Manufacturer Refurbished" lenovo Miix from them a few weeks ago, and it was just a used laptop that's been wiped down with a wet cloth. Definitely not in 'excellent' condition. The touchpad had significant wear, and there were several marks on the back.

Can't complain really for the price, however just be aware these are not refurbished to the standard that apple products are.

    • Yes, Grays have a terrible reputation, but sometimes you get bargains.

  • Too late for me. definitely would have pulled the trigger on this one.

  • Was pretty tempted by this but doesn't 'manufacturers refurbished' essentially mean they may have been a problem with them and it was fixed? They are second hand goods.

  • +1

I got my yoga this morning, and it is working perfectly. just don t know where to put the pen.

    • Nice! Didn't know it came with a pen.

Is it basically in a new condition?

      • yes, it is basically in new condition. I play around these days, so far so good.

        • I received my Yoga 920 today. It didn't come with a pen which i was half expecting (its the i5 lowest model). I'll ask the question to Grays anyway.

Funny it came in a box with bubble wrap , except the bubble wrap was around the charging cable/brick and the actual laptop was in another slip cardboard box at the bottom (not the original box). You would think the laptop would be the one bubble wrapped!

Anyway laptop looks blemish free, I notice that the rubber feet have some wear so it has been used in some way previously.

I have booted it up and stuff and no issues so far. The fans have a slight whir but thats it.

I will be updating the drivers and deleting useless programs.

        • @Circly:

Anyone else having issues connecting to bluetooth?

        • @Circly: I tried the bluetooth over the weekend, it failed few times and working eventually.

        • @peterozbargain:

Tried it again the next day and no dice. Tried a few different things like updating drivers, uninstalling it, trouble shooting and changing some settings.

Will take it into my cousins repair shop to verify if there's an issue, and if there is I will send it back to grays for them to have a look at it.

I checked the battery status and my laptop is essentially brand new with 4 cycles on it.

        • @Circly: make sure your bluetooth devices unpaired with other connected devices, and then try it again with your Yoga. My one works in this way.

        • @peterozbargain:

Thanks Peter I'll try that tonight just in case.

We couldn't get it working at the PC shop yesterday. We plugged in a usb Bluetooth and it worked straight away so it does not seem to be a software issue.

    • Did they either include or send a tax invoice? Thanks.

      • +1

you will receive a tax invoice from the seller when you place your order from eBay. there is a warranty letter in the box.

        • I can confirm invoice provided upon request to grays. For the full pre voucher price.
