760

In April this month Surfrider Foundation Manly is teaming up with 4 Pines Brewing Company to support ocean friendly cafes across the Northern beaches to launch the Rubbish 4 Coffee Initiative.

It’s easy as…
1. Ask your café for a Surfrider branded bucket
2. Fill it full of trash from the beach
3. Return it to the café for a free coffee
4. Upload a photo of your good deed & #rubbish4coffee

Listed below are the Manly Cafes already on board with more signing up daily:
Roma & Co Manly (The Corso)
Hemingway's Manly (North Steyne)
Havana Beach (South Steyne)
The Bower Restaurant (Fairy Bower)
The Boathouse Shelly Beach (Shelly Beach)
Manly Wine (South Steyne)
Hakan's (Victoria Pde)
Bluewater cafe manly ( South Steyne)

Lookout for the Rubbish 4 Coffee Poster at participating beachside cafés.

Can you grab a second bucket to pickup your coffee cup…repeat

    • It doesn’t say so I am assuming you can..

Do your bit for the environment, especially the much talked about platics in the ocean these days

Actually the word you wanted is exploitation. In extortion threat is used. Nobody is forcing you to volunteer. As for exploitation people can judge for themselves whether they want to give their labour for coffee.

the BRA has piccies of @ca6leguy in a wettie & have threaten to make them his avatar unless he participates. He's being extorted, the rest of us it's voluntary exploitation

      • I don't mind being exploited, so long as I enjoy it.

…if people werent such lazy inconsiderate littering assholes we wouldnt need volunteers to clean our beaches & natural environments

yes it used to annoy me when people in Sydney chuck rubbish (e.g. cigie butts) into gutters/stormwater drains. Where do you think that ends up? yep on the beaches.

      • If it's on the ground, it's in our lakes..

Oh no wait, Sydney is if you litter it's on you or something equally lame.
(The above is Central Coast/Lake Macquarie)

        • Ours is "If it's not in the bin, it's on you."

<insert photos of people accessorised with trash.

        • @chibichip: oh that's right. Tbh it sucks and isn't effective.

      • "People" also litter their cigarette butts directly onto Sydney beaches. 💧

    • +1

Yup. I get incredibly annoyed when I see people chuck their cigarettes out the car window. First off, very few cars don't have an ashtray (not that not having one would be an excuse). Second, those things last for decades and usually get missed in cleanups because they're so small. Third, fire risk.

Was kinda hoping 4 pines would do this too with beer. Beaches would never look cleaner!

    • People would fill the buckets with sand and there'd be nothing left!!

    • 100%

Maybe you can steal a charity collection tin while you're at it?

      • Stealing from the tip bowl of the café would be more appropriate - and accessible.

A drunk NRL player won't fit in a bucket, so what can be done with him?

  • +5

collect rubbish, order your high carbon emissions/forest devastation coffee, use a disposable cup, use a disposable lid, get the do-gooder tick of approval. Done

    • +2

More carbon, more beach days!! ☀🏄🤘

  • 1 beach . Woohoo job done.
Now time to hit everyone up for donations.

    Surfrider? Don't they make stickers?
    T-shirts?

    • Make sure you don’t get a caffeine overdose lol

Yeah, they do do stickers and t-shirts

      • Stickers and t-shirts for the yuppies,
and they pick up some stuff in their own backyard ,
all while socialising and drinking coffee.
Local ,state , federal politicians will just happen to stop by and take selfies with faceskank ect , and
put up 'Keep Australia Beautiful' signage in chinese.
        A worthy 'cause'.

Would love to have this deal in WA but our beaches are so clean I will struggle to fill a bucket with trash all day.

  • How big is the bucket? Perhaps I'm being naive but I didn't think sand rubbish is such a serious issue anymore that you could fill up "buckets". At least at Randwick Council's beaches, we have heavy machinery and full-time cleaners that seem to make the issue "invisible". The obvious exception being those public holidays (esp. Christmas) where drunken revellers just get up and leave.

I imagine the only days I would find bucket-loads of rubbish at my local beaches (without asking people for their rubbish) is when the sea is very rough and this seaweed-rubbish hybrid washes up on the shore. Not likely with the great weather we've been having.

Now I'll go out of my way to prove myself wrong.

  • pick up the bucket, fill it up with the coffee cup waste that they give away…

  • Fill the bucket half way with sand and than place rubbish on top.

    Easy coffee.

  • Just a coffee to get rid of Tony Abbott? Lol
