  • A deal it may be, but cavet emptor with Vodafone at the moment. Their network isn't up to basic 3G calling in most states, and its data network is just as horrific on all accounts from a number of my Voda-connected friends.

    • Yeah good price, terrible network. What a shame.

    • True, vodafone's network is probably not that reliable at the moment, but I seem to get pretty decent speeds out and about.

  • Very nice deal in terms of recharge amount. I recharged with the same 12GB amount for my Pocket Wifi a few months ago, cost me $150.

    • If you are going for the straight recharge buy it at Woolies and associates, its 10% off.

  • does the first 3 gig expire in the first month? or is it all 365 day expiry?

edit: I used my eyes.. duh =) First 3 gig expire after a month.

    • I think that the case, at least I hope it is. I.e. Hopefully its a prepaid modem pack with a separate $150/12GB dollar recharge voucher.

  • What device is this and will it support Vodafone's new 850 MHz 3G network?

I have noticed that Vodafone is doing a runout on some old stock (devices that won't work on its new network).

    Avoid vodafone like the plague.

I am currently in a dispute with them regarding the current service outages, and have spent a total of over 5 hours on the phone with them (in a store, as my mobile drops out and i don't have a home phone)

Connecting with VF? Might as well put a bit of used chewing gum inside of your phone/device rather than a SIM card. Both will work the same.

I've never had a problem with vodafone mobile, and have never honestly used vodafone wireless net, but I assume it may not be bad for everyone but more like TPG in the way that some will be happy with and some will be extremely unhappy with it. Than again I have had numerous problems with my tpg and even with such problems I would never switch to this vodafone internet service.

I doubt anyone is suggesting that Vodafone is a great network, but I haven't had any major problems with wireless broadband. The speed is good enough for facetime off a mobile hotspot on Swanston st.

Obviously, I have had drop outs and times when I can't connect, but what can you expect with a wireless network. Its the nature of the beast.

      • I've never had a drop out nor times when I can't get data connectivity whilst in coverage of the Telstra NextG network. It's not a nature of the beast with a good wireless network that is well invested in. Rather the call dropouts and lack of connectivity with Voda are due to their crap network that they have oversold capacity on by offering bargain basement prices and lack of infrastructure investment.

Not hard to offer cheap prices when you spend peanuts on your falling apart network….

For that reason I wouldn't call this deal a bargain. You'll struggle to even use the 15Gb would be my bet.

i reckon that I could use it, lol.

To clarify, I am talking about wireless broadband, not the phone service.

I seriously doubt that NextG is so good that when you on the train and switching towers, their handing over is so good that the speed doesn't drop or connection closed off. Also I doubt NextG is that good that it can maintain at least 200kB down during peak hours in the CBD.

Look, there is no doubt that Telstra have the better network, and you do get what you paid for. But lately, there is just alot of people suggesting that Vodafone is totally un-useable, when its still pretty decent most of the time. If you are one of the ones having problem, swtich to Telstra:)

Also NEVER NEVER underestimate how much data one can use.

15Gb will be gone in a flash with a couple of facetime calls at 100mb/30mins, couple of skype calls at maybe 20mb/30mins, then there is the browsing, downloading etc.

Dude.. i dont know where you live, but here in Melbourne, I live 40(forty) kilometres away to commute, and everyday from monday to friday, i am streaming radio on the internet while i am on the train on my HTC desire using Telstra NextG. Let me tell you.. i am the living proof of how good and awesome Telstra NextG. and Yes.. it is soooo goood switching towers.. it is sooooo gooood with handing over.. the speed doesnt drop (well.. maybe once or twice in a week when the train is passing a blank spot inside a tunnel) but that is beside the point).

        • Eutama,

Streaming radio are buffered, so even if the connection slows or drops for a short time during handover, you will not notice a difference.

        • I've never had problems with loss of data connetivity switching between cells on the go. UMTS is designed to be a seamless multi-cell protocol and Telstra have a much higher rate of smaller cells in builtup areas to help eliminate black spots.

Oh and with my Ultimate USB modem, I can pull around about 6Mbps on a speedtest during peak and about 18Mbps later on in the evening. Yeah yeah speed tests aren't accurate, so I tried downloading a Ubuntu ISO from AARNET mirror and could pull 1.5MB/s. Faster than my ADSL2+!!

hmmm pretty sure there is a class action against voda atm.

I havent used voda broadband, but i have been using my mobile with the voda network for a number of years. Its fine in major cities, however with the smaller cities (or anywhere in between) its terrible

  • This seems like a good deal. I admit i prefer vodafone to telstra. I've owned 2 telstra usb modems, and a vodafone usb modem. The vodafone modem was the worst, not because of poor connection, but because of poor hardware. I actually had a more stable connection via vodafone than via telstra. I did experience several driver issues with my vodafone usb, and it would only work if it was always plugged into the same usb port, but i did only pay like $30 for the modem, so you get what you pay for.

and their customer service is crap. I was put on hold yesterday for 2hrs 40min 56seconds and then the call disconnected automatically. I cannot recharge my prepaid account and they are asking to call them so you can waste your time on phone..

      Simple, switch networks.

      • totally agree, vote with your feet.

Just look at telstra. say 2 years ago, everyone walked away because they were overpriced. About a year ago they introduced awesome plans for large amounts of data

  • stay away from voda for anything other than basic mobile using a non 3G handset.

The reason so many ppl are having problems is that all new phones are set to 3G and all data needs 3G but vodafone have a total of 2 3G towers in oz so for anything data/3G related just wont work and their old 2G network cant really handle the data being forced through it so its screwing up the whole network i think the ACCC should ban them from selling 3G services.

and its almost impossible to even speak to a real person there now as apparently LARA can solve all your problems…pfftt

So for data best off going to optus or telsta. 3 use to be alright but ive been having probs with them lately so cant recommend it really although their pricing and customer service is good.

    • So my current and last two 3G handsets on Vodafone didn't really connect on 3G, and I didn't really use my data allowance? And my 3g broadband I've had for over 2 years doesn't really work when I travel around the country? Gee, someone better tell my laptop it's not really on the net, and that I'm not really browsing the net via my phone…… sheesh. So much bullshit floating around.

    • I've also been having problems with 3 for the past 5 or 6 months, mainly data in the CBD being flaky. I wonder if this is related to Vodafone and the merge at all? Either way, the problems probably aren't severe enough to get me out of my 6 month old contract, so voting with my feet is not possible :(

  • I just got 2 in Hobart (they had sold 5 just after opening). For 15gb of data to use anytime over the next 12 months how can you really go wrong. I will post some real world results later on.

    • Happy as……Ozspeedtest 600KB: ~600-800kbps inside double brick house ~1200-1500kbps outside.

    • Was the recharge voucher separate from the modem? Or is it one pack?

By the time I made it to Big W, they had sold out. But I only want the pack for the voucher to use on an existing account.

    • I went to the Macquarie (Sydney) store just before lunch and was told they'd all sold out. The guy said they only had 5 or 6 that went early in the morning.

  • I checked everystore in south east melbourne and there is no stock. Went to altona meadows where they had 5 left. All are 3571z.

  • $99.76 at Dick Smith (Sale ends 19 January 2011)

    http://catalogues.dicksmith.com.au/portal/dynamiccatalogue?C…

  • I called Disk Smith North sydney and verified that the model they are silling was the K3571-z
    - decided not to buy as I was hoping that they are selling the K3765
