Its easier to suss out fares via Bestflights rather than the airline's website. China Southern fly direct to Paris/Amsterdam only. There are fares out there, and they are some for $1100 too, so dont neg because you cant find it on the first search, do your research folks!

could you give us the dates for $1100 and under ?

sounds like an ad for that website. the flights do seem cheap though

  • I tried a query for HK but got a 500 error from the website. Search engine fail.

  • another oddity = maximum stay away is 1 month only !

  • To clarify China Southern does not fly direct to Paris/Amsterdam from Australia, its via CAN.

  • So which dates are the deal, or did you want us to find it ourselves?

Skystar posts lots of airfare specials. Skystar also seems to have access to details of available flights that are not able to be found through regular searches but require a phone call to bestflights.

  • Can you make a search for best price? Happy to flex departure dates, and even euro destination to save $$$.

  • I eventually found a flight Syd-Edinburgh 20 Feb - 13 March. Cost $1541 plus BestFlights booking fee of $18.95 but cannot book anyhow as get error message: Sorry, it would seem the airline is not able to confirm your seat request at this moment. We suggest you go back to search results and choose an alternative airline. If you still are not able to confirm the flights of your choice, call our service centre for assistance.

Looked at the reviews for China Southern and if you like cramped seats, no seat back flight movies, a long delay in China as you have to enter China before you can reboard for Europe, almost no choice of travel date then you can save a few dollars. Other choices include paying an extra couple of 100 dollars for same dates with KLM ROYAL DUTCH AIRLINES
    KL4104, KL0810, KL1279
(Operated by Malaysia Airlines)$1761 (no booking fee) or book with Air Asia.

http://www.flychinasouthern.com/index.php?lang=en is the China Southern booking engine.

I think you underestimate the lengths people would go to to get a bargain here. If people would rather drive another 5km just to save 3c on fuel they would definitely put up with anything to save $200

Would anyone actually dare to fly with a Chinese airline? I know I wouldn't.

No use getting a refund for defective product when the plane goes down.

    This isn't a purchase at K-Mart, you know :)

would anyone dare to fly Qantas given their poor safety records lately????!! Chinese airlines are as good as Qantas I reckon.

    • LOOOOOOOOOL. OK mate you keep thinking that.

I think people are getting confused. Chinese airlines have poor service. They don't have poor crash records.

  • I flew China Southern from HK to Guilin once. it was a spur of the moment thing when I was in HK for a few months. Never again will I fly China Southern. It was cramped, the service was sh!t, the plane was so old it needed a tow out to the runway (I mean all the way, not just getting backed out).

Maybe the international flights use newer, larger jets, but frankly, if garratt Torlese is correct, then I don't really want to stop in guangzhou (its a large city with not much going for it) on the way to Europe. I'd prefer the usual suspects BKK, KL, or Singapore.

    • HK to Guilin is an international flight, regardless of who owns HK now. Flights from there to China are supposed to be of a better standard the domestic flights. They cost a lot more than flights from Shenzhen or Canton too.

  • I would never fly with China Southern airlines simply because

    1. Service was terrible. When I requested a can of lemonade, I was told "the trolley was at the back and you can go and help yourself" and I feel the flight attendants were not friendly.

    2. Old jets (Visual feeling)

    3. No on-flight entertainment system

    4. On time departure and arrival are not easily achievable

I would rather pay $200 more to fly with other reputable airlines and have a safe and pleasant journey.

    • China Southern is as safe as any. Qantas has a higher likely crash possibility than these guys.
This is Oz Bargain for crying out loud!
I've flown with them before and though there's nothing spectacular about their service, you could do a lot worse. With the price they offer, I'm definitely not complaining.

      • As long as you are not flying russian made planes you will be fine!

Using the same sample dates I can find $982 return to Amsterdam including "Best Flights Service Fee"

Seriously guys, this is OzBargain. The service may not be up to par with the likes of Singapore but $982 is the cheapest i've ever seen a full fare airline fly to europe.

  • air asia is another option . with best flights their website sucks for bookings online, you need to book with cc over the phone & i had to fax or email them my credit card.

    • Really? I've never had to do that on Airasia

  • What appear on their website is one story, even you fly within the promotion period. They came back with the quote more by $400 per person. Rip off more like it than best flight.

I would say the biggest safety issue with CSN is the non-native speaking of English. It causes alot of problems in aviation. The aircraft are still made in the same factory as Qantas, the computer does 99% of the work, its when things go wrong and how the pilots react that worries me. For that reason low cost carriers are worse than these 'dodgy' airlines people perceive to be dangerous. The airfares are cheap because the staff are paid low. Low pay = low experience. Would you get in a taxi with a P plater?

    • Rubbish. Low pay does not equal to low experience.
Have you ever resided in China? Wage levels are far different to industrialised and regulated labour markets. I know countless staff members who work in many airlines who have far more experienced yet are paid far lower than your 'premium' airlines and can do the job so much better. What a load of bollocks!
