    Not polarised.

      • +32

        Why not?
That’s the half price, at full price they should be.

        • +7

aliexpress have polarised sunnies for $10USD. Some nice designs too.

        • True - but I guess that’s the cost of fashion.

        • You can't get polarised Ray-Ban at the same price point - what makes you think Oakley would be any different?

        • @LaProblematique: What's any different - being on sale.

        • @LaProblematique: they are same company. But seeing cheaper options with polarized lenses makes me think they should have polarized lenses in glasses close to $200 point. Now what makes you think they shouldn’t?

    • +3

No, but you can get good quality replacement polarised lenses for ~$20 which you'll probably need since the lenses are plastic & scratch easily.

I've still got my Holbrooks (frame) from years ago & simply replace the lenses when they get scratched up too much.

      • +3

How can you get them replaced for $20?

        • +11

          https://sublimeoptics.com/metallic-ice-blue-replacement-lens…

I've used these guys for a pair of Oakley and Arnette with no issues.

        • +1

@wheresthebeef: Yep, that's the company I've used a few times now. I did also try once a cheaper (than Sublime) brand off eBay but the lense coating started peeling far quicker than Sublime.

        • @wheresthebeef:

          wow that's awesome.

does anybody do something similar but with corrective lenses??

        • @wheresthebeef:

Their polarised lenses are pretty good compared to Oakley originals ?

        • +1

@wheresthebeef: while I can't help you locate the beef, I did upvote you for letting us know of that site. Thanks may be ordering replacement lenses for an oakley flak jacket

        • @dazzza: I can't remember how my original Oakley lenses were it's been so long, but these are recommended.

        • @281982:

I will add that my Arnette lenses from Sublime had issue with the film peeling after about a month but were quickly replaced for free when I contacted them. Haven't had any issues since then which was over a year ago.

        • @wheresthebeef: I've used them too, however the lenses delaminated fairly quickly I thought.

        • Galaxy lenses aren't too bad either. Around $15 US for polarized. Had 4 sets. One replaced no issue. I may have used a detergent to clean lenses. Ever since using warm water and a soft cloth only, had no issues.

      • Do you just pop the old lenses out and the new ones in yourself? Is it fairly easy? My partner had a pair of Holbrooks and the lenses are so scratched now, so I’m keen to try out a replacement set

        • +1

Yep just pop them out yourself by hand. Press at the edges of the lense is the easiest way to get them out.

        • +1

Yep. Just pop out. Check YouTube for technique or I think the Sublime site may have some videos too

Always amazed at the cost of basic sunnies. I wonder how these big name brands hold up to say the typical petrol station or cancer council sunnies in terms of quality of materials used.

My sunnies usually get thrown after too many scratches on the lens or the frame deteriorates (break or material flaking off). Best I've had so far have been the $1 Bolle

    • I second that; the best still and yet, should have bought couple more!

    • +4

There is a world of difference between good branded sunnies and the cheapies.

I wear glasses so I appreciate good frames with good hinges, you don't see that in cheap sunnies but you do see it in my prescription Rayban Wayfarers. Fantastic quality.

And I totally ignored whether the cheapies actually stop UV rays like they say.

      • +1

Seconded, and Tyvod below is correct too.
I've have two pairs of polarised sunnies right now, $80 Bill Basses (got them half price) which are 3 years old and $400 Ray Ban Chromance Wayfarers.

The Bill Basses are great as a budget pair and are pretty good quality (hinges, lenses) but the Ray Bans are lighter (they were a present).
There's no way I'd spend $400 on sunglasses (it was hard enough to cough up the extra $100 when I took them back instore to upgrade to polarised lenses).

But in saying that, I recently saw the Ozbargain post for Cancer Council sunnies at DJ's…
The difference is night and day, sure they're polarised too but the hinges are stiff and the frames bend and don't line up.

You really do get what you pay for, yes sometimes it's just the brand but you really have to try them on yourself to see if the quality matches what you're paying for. It's like headphones, if you're paying heaps and can't tell the difference then you're not missing out except for all the money you spent.

Trust me, even I thought Ray Ban Wayfarers were douchey and too common as there are a lot of fakes. But after having the real deal, it's worth it.

        • +1

I just don't understand why cheap sunnies can come polarised, but several hundred dollar sunglasses from Ray Ban aren't polarised?

        • What a load of hogwash! I've got a $330 pair of Raybans from SGH that are just junk, sit on my face crooked as the whole as the arms sit at different heights, around 1.5cm! I'd have my $29 pair of polarised servo ones any day!

      • -1

good frames with good hinges, you don't see that in cheap sunnies

        Er yes you do.

LOL. Trying to justify spending hundreds of dollars.

      • +1

I got a pair of sunnies from the local IGA because they were the only ones I could find in town for a reasonable price with spring hinges! They were about $20, Wayfarer style sunnies, polarised as well.

If anyone is looking for cheap decent sunnies with spring hinges, check your IGA!

    • +1

I have cheap petrol station sunnies, two ray bans and a pair of prada - all non-polarised.
I can confirm there's a lot of differences in terms of clarity and contrast even the lenses are all made out of plastic. I think more expensive pairs use a higher quality plastic? But I would never spend more than $150 for a non-polarised pair unless I really like the design.

      • +1

I think people are under the delusion that polarising glass is a hugely expensive process when it isn't.

        It costs a few cents.

        • Right? How can petrol stations sell polarised sunnies for a few dollars, but I just got charged $75 today by specsavers to polarise my prescription sunnies. WTF? Thankfully covered by insurance.

    • My Oakleys have lasted through multiple servo sunnies and midrange sunnies, you get what you pay for when it comes to sunglasses mate.

      • +3

Is that because you're wearing your servo and midrange sunnies?

    • Bolle are top quality in every price range. The fact they sell safety glasses for Rick bottom prices is truly amazing.

    • For me it's the frames, not the lenses that are the biggest difference. I go through cheap sunnies every 8 weeks or so (frames break/ arms break). However, never broken an Oakley frame to date. As for the lenses, scratch just as easy, if not easier than a cheapy. So I get genuine frames, Galaxy polarized lenses. Never tried prism lenses yet though. Also the glass lenses have caught my attention.

  • Still rockin’ Oakley Hijinx from Amazon Black Friday Sale years ago. Generic lenses are around $10 a pair once they get too scratched.

    • +3

2010 called and want their sunnies back

      • +4

I'm loving my Oakleys from the 90's. Leave us alone ;)

        I didn't neg you BTW

        • Haha all good. I just google imaged searched it and got all nostalgic about it, I actually had a pair back in the day :)

      • You just wait 'til "I like your old stuff better than ya new stuff" happens to you 😱

  • +1

All my Oakley sunnies have a hard coat.

FYI alcohol destroys the coating so they scratch easy. Check what you are cleaning with.

    • Oh, that explains a lot. Too late for this pair but thanks for the tip :)

  • Own, enjoy, recommend.

  • +2

I had the polarised version and I can tell you they are no better than Cancer Council which can be bought at $20 when they are 50% off. My Holbrook lens started getting speckled all over after a year, the coating is not designed to last. Lenses in my cancer council pair are just as good in terms of clarity/glare reduction, but they do creak a bit when you clean them - so finish is not quite up to standard. Will not buy Oakley again though, not worth it and IMO their designs are a bit juvenile.

    • +1

      Didn't they have a 2 years warranty?

    • how would they compare to say a pair of Raybans?

  • +5

    Lol luxottica. What a rip.

    • +6

Yep! Evil company. I refuse to support them now! Maui Jim all the way =D and their polarising lenses are great too! Superb quality.

  • Is this deal for matte black or gloss black?

  • +1

ordered one, got a DHL notification that the package will be picked up from DONGGUAN - CHINA, PEOPLES REPUBLIC

    hmmm

    • -1

I bought a pair off ebay for $160 last year. Got in contact with Oakley Australia. Turned out to be fakes. But the best fakes they have seen to date (even with etched "polarized" markings on lenses etc). Couple of small mistakes brought them undone. Wouldn't think it would happen with Sunglass Hut. But mine were also from a reasonably reputable seller. Got a refund no issue. Pm if any concerns and I'll point you in the direction to clarify authenticity.

      • Sunglasses hut is owned by Luxottica, which essentially is Oakley, why would they send out fakes? eBay is at your own risk.

        • Fair enough. Shouldn't be an issue with legit sunglass Hut. Just saying I was surprised by buying from a bricks and mortar store (but via there eBay store during a sale with 100% feedback thousand+ sales) for $160 and they were fake. They were very convincing. Even to Oakley Aus. So, probably not an issue with this deal, but if anyone is a bit suss from another deal, drop me a message & I can point u in the right direction.

        • @tunzafun001: The question is did you post negative feedback after you found out? If not or you could not there is your reason they have 100% feedback.

    • It's normal for Sunglass Hut to be shipped from China. Why would a company like Luxottica that have a monopoly on the market not use China as a hub to ship out their huge range to the world?

      • idk i was just expecting the stock to be in Australia. just hope they do returns easily, since i ordered two different pairs.

        • +1

Just go to any sunglasses hut and they'll take it. It's better for companies to send items out of a hub rather than from a store front as store fronts have limited inventory and they're restricted to those that buy in person. and dhl bulk shipping is like $9 a package or less.

  • Great buy

  • Damn. Missed out

  • Ahh missed out and I’ve just broken my last pair of fake raybans :(

When I was In Bali I found a pair that were the normal ray ban style but had thin arms and spring hinges

Apparently it’s a hybrid because I’ve never found another set in this style both real or fake :(

  • Price match opportunity at Djs or similar?
