If you don't need to use your club plus card, can get it off their eBay Store for $76 with PICK5.

    • I kept getting errors when trying ebay- "The item you've selected wasn't added to your cart. Please try again."

"Item(s) in your cart aren't available in the quantity you originally requested. We've updated your shopping cart to reflect the amount that is currently available. Please review these changes before proceeding to checkout."

      • Try and press "Buy It Now" instead of Add to Cart, should work fine?

        • I tried both but it didn't work.

        • This works for me.
Just click on 'Buy it now" and go through the transaction. I will be picking up my set tomorrow :)

          Thank you.

        • @videoman:
Sign in again, even if you already are.
That usually fixes it, same happens to me every now and again.

      • Kept seeing this message until I chose a store that has stock. Had to do it 3 times until I find a store.

  • I just need the impact driver and nothing else (don’t need battery as well), anyone in Melbourne want to work out a deal?

    • Just sent you a PM, only need the charger. Bought one on Amazon some time ago and it isn't 240

      • fyi you can wire it up to a constant current led driver. I havent burnt the house down yet :)

        I think i paid $12 for mine

that comment in the user review is concerning:

A great item for work or around the home except mine caught on fire while it was charging!
    Bad Points−
Burning down the shed when it caught fire while charging.

Wow that’s made me second guess getting one now

    • +7

Lol yea I read that review.
It's a slow charger I can't see the cells getting damaged while charging at 400ma.

      • My guess is his shed gets hot and he left it in there while charging for an extended period.

        • My guess is that the review is BS.

        • @macrocephalic:Earlier B&Ds had chargers that had no thermal monitoring (look for at least 3 wires/connectors on the charger and battery). The 2 wire ones caused houses to burn down.

Now they should all have at least one thermister inside to provide temperature feedback to the charger, so it can shutdown when the battery overheats.

Good batteries have a thermister on each cell. Cheap ones have a single thermister, sometimes poorly placed or loose inside the battery so not really functional.

400mA can easily cause an explosion (if left charging long enough, and) one of the cells (is unable to reach 4.3V per cell (or whereever the charger cuts off). It just keeps going and without thermal cutoff the battery will overheat/explode/catch fire

        • @resisting the urge: A battery that size can't offload at most ~8w of excess heat without rupturing?

        • +1

@macrocephalic: Amongst other batteries that are hot to start with in a plastic case not designed to sink heat, possibly. But remember it's not the heat alone that causes the damage once the cell is heating (Gases, physical forces can do a lot of damage).

These things happen… Same as all lithium batteries, it's wise not to leave them to charge unattended… Cheaper gear is always a higher risk..

      • +2

Personally I always put ANY lithium battery item that being charged (from phones, to tablets, to drills to 18650 cells) on a non-flammable surface to charge e.g tiles or concrete etc. They can go off like little incendiary devices and we're far too comfortable and common with them given the potential they have to really get a good house fire started.

    • +1

this wouldn't happen if your shed was made from asbestos.. LOL

        Haha, cough cough…

As someone who owns one of these kits it's very so-so. Sure if you seriously ONLY have under $100 to spend it's fine for average home users. BUT in hindishgt I'd drop double the money and get Ryobi 18v or something a lil better as they're relatively long lasting tools and the B&D 18v range is pretty crap so you won't want to get more for battery/charger sharing.

Also Choice ranked these very low when they reviewed 18v drills.

    • I agree, they are pretty cruddy, the B&D 'backup for home set' I bought from Masters a while back, the drill is out of centre and wobbles. The whole set has the feel of a kids toy.
OK if your desperate as Nikko says.

    • After using Makita stuff, any Budget brand tool is unbearable to use. Especially power tools you use for more than an hour it saves more in time and frustration than the extra cost

  • Does this thing go through brick?

    • Doubt it. Generally you need a hammer drill for that

      • Would recommend using a hammer drill but you can get something like this and use with the drill driver: https://www.bunnings.com.au/kango-10-x-250mm-multi-purpose-d…

Obviously won't work as well as a hammer drill and masonry bit though.

        • Is that pretty much the same thing as these that I've seen on TV?
          https://doesitall.com.au/

Are they actually fair dinkum? Anything "as-seen-on-TV" is usually rubbish lol.

        • @dufflover: they definitely work. They're best left to people like me who'd rather buy a bit than a whole hammer drill to hang a few things in the backyard. But they're a bit more tedious on masonry than a hammer drill and sometimes require a fair amount of pressure when drilling which might conk out some cheaper drill drivers.

        • @CaptainNewspeak:

          How much do they cost?

        • @edrift: 10-15 bucks. They'll be next to the masonry bits at Bunnings and say "multi-purpose"

    • With a suitable masonry bit you can get through brick very easily. Until recently I had a Masters store brand drill which I used many times for drilling into brick without issue. The trigger button on the Masters one died - but the motor still worked fine right to the end.

Hi, I've had the set for some time. I've mixed over 80 bags of concrete. That sucker has taken a beating and it's still going strong, not to mention the other use it has had.
I'm buying two more of the drivers at $40 each.
    IMHO top value.

    • What tool did you use for the concrete mixing, presumably some kind of paddle but most seem to have either a 14mm or SDS fitting - an adaptor?

I've actually got a concrete mixer but sometimes a hand held device would be handy to have….

      • the one from Bunnings: about$20

  • I own a whole set of B&D tools purchased on the cheap from both Kogan and Masters (at the time). They are great cheap DIYers stuff obviously, but for this price a bargain.
They are also identical the the Porter Cable 20v max system used in the states of you wanted to expand your collection at the cost of importing.

  • i bought the same one of amazon a while back. It works fine no issues (except the US charger which i resolved).

Even use it for cleaning :)

  • I have the drill and it's decent enough for drywall, etc, but would probably have a tough time on masonry.

I mainly use it for putting together flat pack stuff. Battery life is excellent, haven't charged it in a few months and it's still got juice.

  • Sold out

Replaced my Ozitos with these, much better.

  • sold out…. too late….

    • Yeah Said that for when I tried to buy it at 10.30pm so I purchased through ebay store to Click and collect hopefully it goes through.

      • Click and Collect approved sweet :)

  • Is this two drills or just the one? The website says each

    • You get 1 Drill and 1 Impact Driver, 2 Batteries and 1 Charger

      • +1

Thank you. I managed to get the deal :)
