  • That other deal has 2 months of Adobe CC Photography, just saying.

This deal is way better. What's the use of the Adobe freebe? It's only two months, and the whole purpose is to suck you in.

      • Well it's not like you're normally getting hooked on photoshop or become dependable on Adobe ecosystem in two months.

If you don't care about Adobe, than this deal here is way = $4 (~3%) better.

  • +1

Which fee free card can you recommend for USD ?

    • +2

I use the Citibank Plus Debit Mastercard which has fee free international transactions - theres a good forum post on here somewhere too!

    • +2

Pretty sure my ING Everyday Orange refunds the international transaction fee. Caveat is that you have to deposit $1000 a month or so into your accounts. So it’s nice if you use them to bank.

      • So ING or Citibank Plus ?

Pretty sure ING website somewhere says 2.5% charge on Int'l transactions….

        • try macquarie!

    • 28 degrees.

  • The post that you mentioned also linked this deal.

    • +1

      yeah at a different price!

      • Good point. Does that mean this should include the 2 months Adobe CC Photography plan? If so, might be good to add it in.

        • Nah i think it's only listed for the sliver & red models

@urbancartel: I see. Thanks for the post, got one =) Literally collecting HDs at this point.

  • Anyone know if this has a notebook hdd inside with std sata interface?

Don't wish to crack it open, but good to know that there is a better chance of data recovery should the enclosure fail.

    • Yep, looks like just a standard 2.5" drive inside: https://youtu.be/JarIT8zz-HY?t=184

    • lots of threads on WD vs Seagate for shucking …. Seagate is SATA with usb board, WD is integrated USB …. check you tube …. guy cracked WD open and DOHHHH.

Last time I bought five 3TB Seagate drive and 4 of them died within 3 years, totally died

    • +2

these are notebook drives so effectively "green design" and save power by parking heads quickly and spinning down, so longevity depends what they are used for …. NAS (no), slow torrent downloads (no) …. boot drives yes, backup drives yes, movie storage yes.

    • -1

I got one of these from the last deal. WD is a lot more stable and I've never had issues with them over many years (5+ years) I only had rare errors with this Seagate if I leave it connected without movement e.g. leave it overnight (which reboot and a pullout/replug helped refresh it). So yes, a lot of the Seagate reviews about errors and data loss sounds true.

thats just seagate being seagate… if you want a drive that lasts get a western digital

btw have a few western digital green design 1tb (first gen) and all are still going strong, but i think the green design is related to power consumption not powering down when no in use, pretty sure all drives do that these days

      • My original died, with unrecoverable photos of lost ones. Learnt my lesson, I now backup to my NAS, PC and cloud.

        • +1

I have 3 backups for my photos. Still don't feel safe.
          HDD cost peanuts these days.
          Memories are priceless.
          So go and figure out.

        • +2

@Foma2: I talk to so many people about backing everything up… So many people today rely on a SD card in a phone and assume it's bulletproof. I seen that just last week, had a coworker in tears. 2 years worth of photos lost.

If anyone reads this random post. Backup, and backup again.

        • +1

@Soluble: Of everyone I know, I think less than 1% backup their data properly and I would be surprised if more than 10% have more than one single out of date backup. Yet 90% have car insurance.

I have lost count of the number of friends that have said to me "my laptop just died, how do I get my photos off it?"
