OzBargain Easter Treasure Hunt 29 March-3 April 2018 - Lots of Xiaomis to be Won!

Easter is coming up this weekend, and OzBargain is running a treasure hunt from today (29 March) to next Tuesday (3 April) giving away lots of Xiaomi goodies!

It's the 3rd year in a row that we are running treasure hunt event during the Easter long weekend (2016 and 2017). Last year's theme was "Nintendo" and "gaming". With increasing number of Xiaomi bargains and people far from being sick of it. I thought maybe we'll do a Xiaomi-themed treasure hunt this year, with grand prizes as Xiaomi Mi A1 Android phone and Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum.

Prizes

Here is the list of prizes that can be found this weekend:

  • 2x Xiaomi Wiha Screwdriver Kit (2 parts)
  • 2x Xiaomi Sling Bag
  • 2x Xiaomi Dafang IP Camera (2 parts)
  • 2x Xiaomi 70 Minutes Car DVR (2 parts)
  • 2x Xiaomi Amazfit Bip Smartwatch (2 parts)
  • Xiaomi Mi TV Box (2 parts)
  • Xiaomi Mi Handheld Gimbal (3 parts)
  • Xiaomi Mi A1 Smartphone (3 parts)
  • Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum (3 parts)

For multi-part prizes, you will need to claim all the parts in order to claim that prize. For example obtaining both "Xiaomi Mi TV Box (1/2)" and "Xiaomi Mi TV Box (2/2)" to win the TV box. The "treasures" will start appearing on the site from this afternoon. However different from previous years, they will only appear on random Xiaomi deals from the last 3 months. Yes, only these ones so do not bother wasting your F5 key refreshing OzBargain home page.

How Do I Participate?

Some prerequisite:

  • Must log into your OzBargain account.
  • Accounts currently in penalty box will not able to participate. Please note that cheating / gaming the system, once detected, will result your account getting banned.

When you scroll through comments on a deal tagged with Xiaomi products, you might find one of these squeezed in between comments:

Spot the Mi Treasure

If you spot one, quickly click on it otherwise it might disappear 15 seconds after the page has been loaded. It would then reveal what "treasure" have you spotted, and you need to click on "Claim It" to add it to your inventory, which can be accessed on the Treasure Hunt Market Place page.

Claim the Mi Treasure

On the marketplace page you can

  • See the current status of treasure hunt — how many items are "in the wild", how many have been claimed, and when the next set of items will be released.

  • See your current inventory, i.e. items you have claimed. Note that you can only keep maximum 4 items in your inventory at the same time. Once you have reached 4 items, treasures will cease to appear on Xiaomi deal pages for you.

  • Items that are currently open to trade on the marketplace. You can click on the link "Trade on Marketplace" to advertise your item for 1-to-1 trading with other OzBargainers. You will receive a notification when someone wishes to trade an item with you, and you can decide to accept or reject the trade.

    It is especially useful in later part of the treasure hunt to collect multiple parts of major prizes.

Have fun! At the end of the treasure hunt (3 April), for those who have collected at least 1 item, they will see an address form on their marketplace page. Fill that out and I'll send you the prize.

For those who have only collected parts of multi-part treasure — you can still fill in the address form and I'll send you an OzBargain Baggu.

Where exactly do the treasures appear?

  • Only on deal pages tagged with at least one Xiaomi products. Best place to look for them would be going to Xiaomi brand page on OzBargain.
  • Treasure will not show up on deals posted more than 90 days ago, or deals with less than 10 comments.
  • It will always be in the comment sections between top-level comments.

Will it show up on expired deals?

Yes, as long as that deal was posted within the last 90 days.

        Gave out most my current stock last year, and the new ones will probably only be delivered around the end of April. The new batch is orange with just OzBargain logo on the front, but made with polyester quick dry material (rather than cotton). Some might like it, some won't.

    so to be clear, will appear on expired deals as long within that range, correct?
    also if for example we go to page for AAA deal, and its nothing there now, will it be a chance we see the treasure an hour later (on the same page deal) or it means we need to move on and try different page deal?

    suggestion: make the treasure hunt box VERY noticeable, ie maybe with big border and RED colour, flashing, etc so we dont miss them

    This is great, thanks Scotty.
    I just wonder if others use Ozbargain the same way I do - which makes winning one of these prizes highly unlikely.
    I tend to scroll through the Front page deals and right click to bring up the interesting ones in a new tab.
    I then go through the new deals doing the same thing with anything interesting there.
    Then I do the same with the forum topics.
    By the time I get the the first of my interesting deal pages its been up for awhile, and then I work through them.
    In short, all my pages are up for WAY longer than 15 seconds before I look at them.
    Isn't this the way everyone does it?

    Always check the Marketplace page to see how many items are "Active". There's no point to refresh pages when there's no active item. They will be gradually released over the next couple of days.

      The colored segments? They represent 'parts' of a whole item. You must have all parts in order to claim the treasure.

    Hmmm…the last few hours the Stats have been showing 1 "Active" item. When new items were released in the system about 20 mins or so ago, the "Active" stat still showed as being 1. ????

    From a user that's participated in the previous hunts, it certainly felt like the battle of the bots this year.
    I may be way off the mark, but I'd love to see the missed pieces stats for this years treasure hunt (ie where a user has refreshed too fast and missed the piece). I have a feeling pieces were identified with a much higher accuracy rate than in previous years.

      Just for another perspective, I managed to easily get the maximum of 4 pieces and I did it all entirely by hand on my phone. I tried to open all the applicable tabs on PC and refreshing them one by one but I found, even with my pretty powerful PC, that this was too show and clunky due to the number of tabs. On my phone, it was painful and mindnumbing, but I got there.

      I don't disagree it would have been easy for someone with the know-how to build a bot, but if they did, it wasn't so effective that people like me scrolling endlessly on their phones didn't have a chance. The 4 piece maximum also helped that I suppose.

      Now comes the hardest part, getting people to trade for your missing pieces.

      I think what happened this year was that I turned up the probability of having an item showing up (to counter the limited pages that they will show up). People ended up watching the timer and load all the pages at the exact time where items are dropped.

      Now all the pieces are taken and people are in the trading mode, we'll be working through some "questionable" accounts that appear to be created to bypass the maximum 4 pieces limitation.

      Finger crossed that shirts will arrive by the end of April. Might consider another round of giveaway then. I've only seen the sample — bright orange sports quick-dry tee. Can't wait for it.
